Part of the day clearing debris. We are not hearing of major problems but that could change at a moments notice as the system is moving through. Stay inside off the road until it passes. Joel be safe out there. Lets stay in Orange County. Lets go to a d. O. T. Camera on i85. You can see the bands, the strong waves of rain coming down on interstate 85. We have a lot of ominous sounding reports coming from Orange County. There is a report of a funnel cloud. We do not know if it hit the ground. Emergency sirens blaring in chapel hill. Anna students are hearing that. This is a live look from our terra camera. You can see to the left of your screen it is darker to the right. This is barreling through the storm moving quickly. We have reports of funnel clouds down in Orange County in the National Weather service said the that threat is dramatically changing. Joel you see the top righthand corner of your screen, that is what we are keeping our eye on. We have reports of funnel clouds already. Something severe. Picture. Chris that is the storm moving we going to show you where we think that tornado, where it is. Over Downtown Durham things are quiet. It may pass to the north of the we have a report of chapel hill. We have a new Tornado Warning issued to the north for a person in Granville County. The whole line is producing Tornado Warnings in effect. This Tornado Warning is clearing out around hillsboro. Tornado warning until 4 15. You need to take cover if youre in the city of durham. Go down to the south into Chatham County, southwestern sections of lee county into more county. Not done yet. Further south, this is the most weve had at one time since april of 2011. Not to say that is happening now but there are quite a few more. Where you see these colors where the two colors, the sharp contrast is coming together and a close pattern somewhere here along highway 70 six miles to the northwest of Downtown Durham , that is where the notation is. The rotation is. This is moving so quickly it could be to the northeast. You see that signature ramp up and become more noticeable with the two colors right opposite of each other into Orange County moving out of Randolph County and areas to the west. That is why that Tornado Warning is issued. Not quite as impressive but certainly it is their west of roxboro moving to the northeast. Any of those areas you need to take cover as well. Thats moving to the northeast 5060 Miles Per Hour. Nothing just yet but only a matter of time before this line of storms advances into wake. Its getting close to western to the south and southwest. Nato warnings under those, they are not important now. This entire line covered with Tornado Warnings. While. Be prepared to go to a safe place quickly because those warnings will be issued in storms are moving so quickly you may not have a lot of time to react. Vance county you are under the warning. There are few breaks when youre not under one but it doesnt add up to a lot. This is for southeastern person, vance in granville. Kind of an overlap there. Anyway you look at it its a threatening situation. So far no reports of damage with this line. Sometimes it takes a little while to get that. You see this solid line of storms. You get a break, that is where the tornado is a little bit of a break in the line. The energy is spread out evenly. Nevertheless there is a report of thunderstorm wind damage. Trees down there. No reports of injuries so far. That is the good news. Just ride the storms out. They do seem like they are getting wider. Minutes of rough weather. We have no reports of any tornado on the ground just yet but we do have a report of a funnel cloud in Orange County. Liz we are watching the storms continue to move through and we see quite a bit associated with this. We want to go ahead and remind you if you are in these areas tornadoes could be coming through now. Lets put this exactly if you are in the path of the storms. We will show you where you should take cover. Northern Durham County, the system is headed straight for you. Storms moving very fast, close to 50 Miles Per Hour. 41 minutes in henderson. You can get 58 minutes if it holds together. To the north we want to take you up there and show you what to i was watching a vortex signature or some sign of rotation. We were saying north of the roxboro area, if you live near 501, you are probably going to want to take cover. We have been doing a great job. Chris has been showing use these storms. The issue is there are several different areas of rotation. If you live anywhere on the leading edge of the storms its important to take cover right now. If you live north of durham you can see this area where it is whitee. That is going to be southwest of butner. Also moving to the northeast around 50 Miles Per Hour down to the south we continue to see several storms just southwest of pittsboro. If you live south of 64, another we have been watching this all day long. We cant continue to ignore that many of us under a tornado watch until 7 00. All the areas are the places we actually have Tornado Warnings. That should show you how large an extensive the system is. Ominous clouds hanging down. You will see a bit of clearing sky. The rest of it, you have to watch for shelf clouds or funnel clouds that hang down. That is what you need to be watching for. Its imperative that you stay where you are a do not get on the road. The most dangerous place you can be is in a car. They are continuing the warning that will continue through 4 30. They are still continuing to see reports of funnel clouds if you want to revisit the potential for hail we can see in many areas with these storms, north of seven lakes, we could be seeing a bit of hail. Check out this. West of durham, tornadoes not the only threat. You can see some of those could be about an inch. Clearly a large hail associated with that storm. We could see some from the west of roxboro. We have a tool called share. Obviously that is there. In those places these are the issues where we could see the best likelihood of a tornado forming. Multiple Tornado Warnings. Its difficult to pinpoint and put them down to the ground level. If you live near southern pines, siler city, person county, these storms are going to be moving for you. If you can stay and work longer. Do not go on the roads. Lets send it back into durham and the First Alert Storm Center. Joel thank you. We should talk more about whats going on in Orange County at this our hour. They put out a carolina alert. Sirens are blaring. Anna the National Weather our crews are scattered all over checking things out. We want you to stay safe. Hes in our storm chaser in Orange County. What are you seeing. Reporter a lot of action in the last 2030 minute since we have been in the car. We are on i84 north heading towards oxford. You stay on the left side of your screen, dark clouds. On the right you see blue sky starting to peak in. We see a lot of heavy rain coming in first. This storm is traveling fast. Its hard to keep up with that. The funnel cloud spotted in Orange County. We are seeing light rain where we are a little bit of debris on the highway is what we have been running into. Traffic moving at a normal pace for right now. Visibility there he low. A little bit of rain coming down. They said no major damage reports at this time. They are asking people to stay inside until the line passes. Stay off the road if you can. They are not ideal at all for being on the road. Clouds are moving quickly. We will keep an eye on the road and let you know what we find if we keep heading this direction towards oxford. Thank you. The safe. South of where heather is, county. First round of weather, Elaina Athans is near there. Anna how have things changed . Elaina athans the rain starting to come down right now. This is business on the overpass. This is west of jordan lake. Rain is really coming down. It is the safest place you can be with that type of weather condition. I did check in with emergency management. There are reports of downed trees mostly in the siler city and bear creek area. No reported injuries at this anna be careful out there. Back to Chris Hohmann as the storm barrels through. A new Tornado Warning to tell us about. Chris first alert doppler xp, this is a Tornado Warning for Durham County until 5 00. This was just issued in the last 60 seconds. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near pittsboro moving 4050 Miles Per Hour. In this area that warning. Orange county and Durham County, a new Tornado Warning until 5 00. We have numerous cells in this producing capable of producing a tornado. Take cover again in these areas if you came out until the storm passes. This is an intense cell producing a tornado possibly. 4050 Miles Per Hour. Some storms are moving at different rates. We got this into the area, this is from the earlier storm. We havent had any reports of funnel clouds. Really a long this line there has been a solid shield of Tornado Warnings that stretch southward. All under Tornado Warnings. This is about to move into wake county. See if you can zoom in to the raleighdurham area. Its in a highly populated area. It is moving quickly. Parts of durham where you didnt get into Downtown Durham. This is eventually sliding eastward into western wake county. All of these areas under Tornado Warnings. You can tell youre in the clear right now. One thing you want to mention, once this clears by, the wind is still very strong. There were not any storms around. Its going to be very winded wendy. Windy. That can cause damage even if there is no tornado. That is an area that is under the gun here in parts of harnett it is generally that chip their of southeastern sections of moore county. Very quickly moving into lee county and Harnett County as well. We look at the areas that are hard to zoom in on any single one. Here is the line of storms. It has it in the next few minutes into western wake county. Its already in the triangle. We are done with this system but we have to get between now and then. These are the areas if you are any of these areas. Raleigh, durham, northward. Anchor these are the same or a little bit more as far as intensity goes. We do have to be ready for that. The cloud tops, this is one of our cloud hypes. Upwards of 4050,000 feet. Here is another view of that. We can get an idea of how the heights are. 4050,000 foot range. Not quite as high ground chapel hill. We are talking about impressive storms for this time of year with temperatures in the mid70s. Flirting with 70. That is incredibly high. To see these warnings continue. Until we see it pass to the under the threat of not just severe thunderstorms but tornadoes as well. You see how they are individual signs. I think this is going to be a new one issued in Harnett County. Which is racing around 6070 Miles Per Hour. Lets do an examination. You see that blue shade next to the green. This is away from southern pines. At this point you are going to be safe. That potential exists that we could be seeing another Tornado Warning issued. The Doppler Radar indicated a strong signal of a tornado, seven miles north of create more. When they use that wording that strongly indicated a severe thunderstorm producing a tornado. That is again seven miles north of create more for those areas. You want to take cover immediately if you have event. This is moving into northeast at 50 Miles Per Hour. No surprise with that. We have been talking about it. Southern wake county, you will be able to see that new warning and include other counties just coming in including Harnett County. That is another warning there. If youre in southern wake you want to take cover immediately from that. We are getting word of three for talladegas. Sad news in sussex county, looking looking for this new they issued a Tornado Warning for southeastern chatham. Western harnett, a doppler indicated severe thunderstorm potentially producing a tornado moving northeast at 5060 Miles Per Hour. This was indicated east of southern pines. We talked about this one that it looked very impressive, potentially producing a tornado. There it is into sections of moore county. Moving out of that very rapidly. We have that Tornado Warning. This area of wake county, Holly Springs, those areas we mentioned that. Down towards the Harnett County line. This rotation is kind of tough to see. Is capitol boulevard. This is moving northeast word. You can see the areas in the path of the storm into lee county, western Harnett County. You have some time, but moving at 70 Miles Per Hour you are only talking if you miles. It will be in these areas in the next few minutes. This is the potential tornado here about to move a long but close to the lee Harnett County line. Potentially that is a 30 mile stretch. We have a storm moving at 70 Miles Per Hour. This Tornado Warning is in effect until 5 00 for these areas. Northern wake is not under any warnings just yet. All along this line we have severe trnadoes. Except a funnel cloud. As i just mention me are getting some sad news out of virginia from three fatalities. We dont want that to happen here. We want everyone to stay safe. Eastern chatham, southern lake. Eastern leave. If you are along this line take cover. That is the safest thing to do. You will be safe, going through those areas. Best place to being, you have a cell here also. It has moved into robinson county. Warnings all over the place. Liz lets take you through those areas where we are seeing the best rotation. If you are living anywhere near carrboro, we have been watching this particular area for potential of rotation moving off to the north as we move towards the sage road. This is all going to be in Chatham County for those of you tuning in now. I want to go to the north. If you live anywhere near, were going to zoom in closer. This area right here, this term is in the path of you. You need to take cover. Im getting a lot of concern on social media about where the storm is heading. Chris has been walk talking so well to this. The storm system has a wild to go before it gets to you but this is the time for you want to react immediately. And a warning, you need to react immediately when you have a warning. Makes are you go to the lowest floor of the place you are away from any windows. We have numerous storms here. I do think its important to point out we have several different areas of rotation. This here also of concern. Were seeing quite a bit of this. We want to take you to show you the big picture. It is not just that we are a lot of this but we are seeing hail area everywhere on this map you see orange or yellow or green, those are areas north, southwest of henderson. North of sanford. These are all areas where you have the potential of seeing hail. We have seen large reports of hail. Many different areas, certainly you want to make sure you have extreme cover there. Signature rotation. We have not seen many confirmed rotations on the ground. All of this is radar indicated unless someone else has heard something. Indicated tornadoes. It doesnt mean they are not touching down. We have not received confirmation of that yet. The storms are heading towards you. Its imperative you stay here whats happening. For more on this system we will send it over to an and joe with more. Joel now we have this Tornado Warning in southeastern wake county. This is our big population center. I want you to be able to center in here and show folks what we are talking about so they know whether or not they are under the gun. Im going to take out a little pointer area here. The storms are moving off to the north and east. With that would indicate is the storms are going to be moving in a general direction of Holly Springs. We are probably 20 miles away. If they continue to hold that area of rotation could continue to move towards the area. If you live near johnsonville, this is the area we are going to be under the most concern. The system continues to move to the north and east. It is going to be moving to the southern sections of Durham County. Anchor it looks pretty windy. What kind of signs and symptoms are we going to start saying around here. What are people looking for . Anchor we tend to see a tremendous wind. That probably shows a lot of rain. You look for a low hanging gray cloud cover. You will likely see some rain. Many of the cells, you will see tremendous amounts of rainfall. You can see in some areas, the upwards of 34 inches. If you see so much rain here, that is heavy rainfall. You can see so much rain out there like were seeing here, it can be hard to spot a funnel cloud. It can be dangerous when you have a lot of rain. All three of these shots are in different locations. You can see it looks like from downtown raleigh that is going to be the bottom image of your screen. You see the streaks coming from the sky. Heavy rain heading towards the area. Ahead of it as well. We almost have a pod here of storms. Another one off to the north. Several systems are starting to bow out. That can be very dangerous. Joel there is so much rain out there, if you see a rain shaft, if you are on the roads, you shouldnt, but if you cannot see through it you should not drive through it very through it. Anchor thank you. Great job. Numerous orts of funnel clouds. No reports of a touchdown. Southern wake, this is in all of this cloud to ground lightning, a funnel cloud. No confirmation of that. She is capable of damaging at least as much as a tornado. Those areas of vance county, much of cloud to ground lightning print ones that moves by you see things quiet down to the south. You see the Tornado Warnings continue into Durham County. A really intense thunderstorm now over the city of durham south of downtown. Possible tornado in effect for these areas around the triangle. There was a cell that made its way to the northeast. If nothing else damaging wind gusts are possible. Rapidly to the east of sanford. You see a little bit on the back end that could be a tornado on this that is doppler indicated. A little bit of rotation. Not a classic signature with that though. Still a Tornado Warning in effect. Nothing in southern wake just yet but this is the cell here moving to the east of sanford on the lee Harnett County line just south or right along highway 421 between sanford. There could be a tornado. This is the velocity. Tracking to the northeast, very quickly. It is moving 5060 Miles Per Hour. The storm will be into southern wake county in the next 1530 minutes. Potentially make its way past city of raleigh in the next half hour to 45 minutes, if it holds together, that is a lot to happen. Down to the south across the region we have western Harnett County. Once it passes by you are in the clear. Cumberland county you are in the clear. Another cell into South Carolina. We have a confirmed touchdown by the National Weather service of a tornado. There was a confirmed tornado touchdown. But that is a situation we are in. That tornado still in effect. For you folks in chatham and Orange County you are in the clear. It has been canceled. Now we have the confirmed tornado for parts of Granville County. This line of storms pressing towards the east. The threat of Severe Weather will continue across the region through the next several hours across the state. Lets go back over to whether three weather 3 . It is still intense. It is pushing into northern parts of vance county. Thenthere he heavy rainfall. Pressing northeastward, volatile right over the city of durham, heavy rainfall with the Tornado Warning in effect that is about to move that very intense thunderstorm, liz we have a confirmed report of a tornado on the ground along highway 15 to the east. This is headed toward vance county. You can see clearly a classic supercell. As we widen out you can see the hook and see where all of these winds are swirling together. We are working to get more information on that. Its important because we know this has a history of being on the ground. Its likely still on the ground. Thats going to be moving really fast in Williams Burrell around 4 45. South hill virginia by 5 14. This is a strong signature. It could be picking up quite a bit. You can ask lacey where it is kicking up some stuff on the ground. A lot of times when you see that you see what we have is rotation. You can see a lot of those south of the durham area. We know there could be a tornado we dont know it is touchdown signature. Very impressive and dangerous at this point. That confirmed tornado again, tracking that tornado on the ground near oxford a few moments ago. This is it here as you look at radar. You see the area around Williams Burrell in this location, that is where the confirmed tornado making its way rapidly towards the northeast. If you are in Granville County especially northern counts of vance county as it tracks to the northeast, all of those areas, take cover. Take it seriously. Confirmed tornado on the ground. The first confirmation we have gotten of a tornado on the ground. With have reports of a doppler you really dont know until you get a confirmation. You dont know until you get some sort of visual there has been a tornado on the ground. We get into the triangle now. You see very intense thunderstorm over the city of durham. You see it looks like rotation, potentially these areas around south of Downtown Durham. There could be a little rotation that could have some sort of rotation. That tracking to the northeast. Ucr skycam looks ok. Not much rain and wind. It could be a totally different story. You need to take cover immediately if you havent already. Through the afternoon hours, the rotation doesnt look quite as impressive as it did earlier with the velocity data that shows the rotation. Still this is moving. You can seeing as it moves it is moving right along highway 421 perhaps a little bit to the north of their remaking its way potentially into southern wake county. Take cover immediately with that. Any of these warnings or Tornado Warnings need to take cover. There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for robinson county. That storm moving out of South Carolina northeastward. That is an impressive so making its way to the northeast. The Tornado Warnings have expired for the moment. There is the line of storms. Seeing there are all the warnings. You see the magenta. They are confined from lee county northward into southern virginia. Normally we have a new Tornado Warning. You are now under a Tornado Warning. If you are in south hill, those areas, southern virginia, take cover. Severe thunderstorms in effect their making its way towards the north and northeast. Steve has the look of changes. That rotation that is very indicative, that still may being if it is. It is in northern vance county now. Thats going to continue you need to take shelter immediately. It could be there within minutes moving at this speed. That is the strongest signature weve had all day today. That is now extended into virginia. For that cell, you are getting plenty of warning. You more than likely have 2030 minutes before it gets there. At least into that cohen to the north in virginia. We have talked about that county. That looks like we could have rotation in southern Durham County towards wake county. Farther to the south, the tail end of this line. We have a signature to the south hour. South a run highway 21, quickly moving in that direction, getting up there were talking more storms than half. A lot of them around 40,000 feet. 50,000 feet, towering into the atmosphere. You have that view there, the confirmed tornado tracking into vance county. It is moving northeast at 60 Miles Per Hour. Golf ballsized hail can also be expected. Into northern vance county, that is heading into southern virginia. We have a new Tornado Warning in effect for robinson county. We have talked about that moving out of South Carolina. Lumberton north and northwest under a Tornado Warning for those areas. That is in effect until 5 30. This storm racing to the northeast. No warnings. You have showers and storms in western hoke county into southern pines. We will put a storm track here moving to the northeast at 5060 Miles Per Hour. These are some areas that could be impacted. 4045 minutes. It is just an estimate by the radar but it could make its way into cumberland county. You had some earlier in the day but not this afternoon. That could easily change with the storms. We go back and show you the wide view here. A narrow line of storms doing a we want folks to stay safe. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the rest of wake county. Franklin county, those areas tough to see. We will pull up a different map. It looks like it is just an issue. That is a severe thunderstorm morning for wake county, granville, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that was issued by the National Weather service for this line of storms. Dont be surprised if that turns into a Tornado Warning. Along this line there are areas of rotation. They have resulted in Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and turned into Tornado Warnings. There are multiple Tornado Warnings in effect. Southern virginia there he quickly, townsville north into southern virginia. That has been on the ground since oxford. Moving northeast at 60 Miles Per Hour. Distractive straightline wind of 70 Miles Per Hour are possible with that as it moves. Lets go to whether three. You can see this is the area, this gives you a better view of the warnings in effect. The purples are Tornado Warnings. Dont be surprised if he gets into cumberland county. That warning is trimmed a little bit in northern Harnett County into southeastern Durham County. A Tornado Warning for southeastern Durham County. Another one into granville, those are the Tornado Warnings. Severe thunderstorm warnings for damaging wind that could exceed 70 Miles Per Hour. A little bit of a break in harnett. That is about it. If youre just joining us, the best place to be if you are at home is to get on the lowest floor of your home in the middle of the house. Get as many walls between you and the storm as possible and crouched down in a bathroom or hall closet. The old saying, opening a window to alleviate the pressure, dont do that. It doesnt work. That is a myth folks believed a long time ago. Some may still think it is true because it is out there. You need to get in the Southwest Corner of the basement or the room. Just get in the middle of the interior room. Anything in the middle of the house. Get to the lowest floor to stay this is the line of storms rolling through here. This is our first alert predictor. Its pretty close. That line moving through the triangle faster in fayetteville. The idea is that by 7 00, 8 00 this is going to be moving out. We have many days of quiet weather to look forward to. Steve is tracking the storm. Steve we see potential rotation, going back and forth with time. Watching how it kind of the vaults. Now it looks like the rotation is getting stronger. Dont pay any mind to that above us. That is an anomaly with the colors. This is in southern or heading towards sandy plain to see if that holds together which is a good bet. The signature is getting a lot weaker. It was really strong but now the last couple of frames it is completely falling apart. It might be easier to find if you see the green and blue. There could be potential rotation. The good news, it is weakening closer to wake county. It is still potentially producing a tornado. County durham line. But this is moving to the northeast at 60 Miles Per Hour. That remains in effect for Durham County until 5 00. Storm moves along the term wake county line. Up a tornado issue is issued Tornado Warning is issued. No Tornado Warnings for northern wake. There is one for southern wake county. You are under a Tornado Warning for that storm to the south and southwest moving northeast rapidly. The line of storms is moving. That storm that did produce a tornado is giving into southern wake right now. There it is. Look at the velocity. I dont really see a whole lot there in terms of any it is a little bit behind. But we dont see the colors of bright red and green. Still without warning in effect, until it is let go take it seriously. It is the tail end of that that looks impressive. Concerning, look behind the line. Anchor yes. They dont look severe but there is more heavy rain back behind it. Softball sized hail in vance county. That is very indicative of the supercell thunderstorm that produce large hail. There you see the potential hail. You are talking probably the size of golf ball at least. We do have softball sized hail reported. That is Serious Health for this part of the country. Typically colorado and wyoming get the bigger storms. We have another report of 4 51 from vance county emergency that the tornado on the ground with highway 39 on their in northern vance county. This is the same thing we have been talking about starting in oxford. This storm is moving to the northeast. A report from vance county emergency management, another tornado on the ground. Highway 39 moving to the northeast. Its probably in the virginia now. It has to be. These reports are coming to us at 4 51. The emergency management, that was a few moments ago. That potential tornado on the ground now could easily be into southern Virginia South of highway 58. Folks in Mecklenburg County west of u. S. 1 need to take cover storm makes his way to the northeast. We will toss it back over to anna. Durham county, Tornado Warnings. That storm is right there on the weight Durham County line.
