133 miles that surround new orleans as well as a number of other surrounding parishes has new reenforcement walls, a little bit higher, new floodgates. there is also a water pump system to pump out water. 150,000 gallons every second. so there is a lot of trust in the fact that these levee systems have really got i'm face-lift by the army corps of engineers so people say, if they are within that good question. od quest you hear us make reference to the model are coming together in terms of predicting this hurricane, what direction it will go and there are many, many, many computer models and the like that forecaster use to try to predict how a hurricane will intensify and more specifically where it is going to go. >> are we talking about like dozens of models? >> well, i guess you could say that. >> yeah. >> yeah. there are six big ones that are used on a daily basis. and then there is what is called an ensemble. they will run at several different time with several equations put in to see what will come out. >> let me just say this. there are what is called dynamic models which essentially use the physics of what is going on in the atmosphere to try to predict where a storm is going to go. essentially, what did storms like this in that location do before. those models try to predict it that way. >> i don't think there is a best model. there is a best model for whatever the situation is. some of the models perform differently depending on where the storm is located, what time of year it is. there are a lot of different factors involved. in fact, let's go to the graphics. for those of you what report quite sure what we're talking about. we are talking about what we call the spagnoletti yet i models or the computer models. each one of those lines you see is the run of a different computer model on where isaac will track. and you can see they're tightly clustered. so how close together they are over the near term and look how far apart they get as we get farther out in time. this is what the challenge is for forecasters at the hurricane center and really for forecasters around the country is to sort of pick the best of what those models offer. what they'll often do is pick a path that is right down the middle. so they'll get rid of the outliers and pick a path down the middle. they really use all of the computer models when we're looking at this information. in my opinion, there is not a best model or a go-to model. there is a new model called the hurricane weather and research and forecasting model, hwrs if you want to do more research. >> that came out like in 2007 or 2008. >> that model is considered to be top of the line. what that model can do is it is doing a nice job predicting the future untense at this of tropical storms and hurricanes. most of these models aren't doing a good job of that. this new model has been doing a pretty good job. one other model is called the gfs. it is an american weather model. it is also good for mid latitude systems. it does a nice job depicting the atmosphere. >> what is a mid latitude storm? >> like in our area. >> like a regular old storm? >> right. >> and something tucker opportunitied on is forecasters will tend to like one more than another just based on that are history and what they've seen it do. the key to this, you can see with all the tracks and the different models, the key is a good forecaster who knows the issue is, knows the region that you're talking about and has some experience and can kind of of say well, you know, other models aren't taking into consideration this or that or that. so it is really a skill. >> for each region. >> like if you have experience being in new orleans and have been there a long time -- >> you mightened certain things a little bit better. >> great question. we thank you very much for the question, sergio h. if you have a question that you want answered, go to myfoxdc.com and click on the weather tab. there you go. >> fascinating stuff. >> time now to say hi to julie wright one more time to talk about the traffic. >> just one more time. >> well one more time right now. >> many, many times. >> this hour. >> is there something i need to know, wisdom? >> we can't get rid of you that fast. >> julie, you are irreplaceable. >> we tried and we can't do it. >> you know, that tony perkins. all right. let's say good morning to our crew in sky fox who i couldn't do my job without them. they help us out quite a bit. northbound 395 north of the beltway trying to get past duke street. no accidents in the wake, just volume to accompany this set up on the westbound span of the bay bridge. crews then noticed some kind of vertical movement on the bridge. they have cleared the bridge and we have a team of inspection workers out there at this time. westbound span is blocked. no one getting by on the westbound side. this is a delay coming from kent island leaving route 8. travel is getting by in each direction using the eastbound span of
