by a tractor-trailer and kill on route 50 near the baydale drive exit. police say he was working on a vehicle crowpt counting device when he was struck. eastbound route 50 is closed at that scene right now. wave got another big problem in northern virginia. parts of king street between quaker lane and 395 have been impacted by a water main break. that is right near the bradley shopping center. fox 5 does have a crew out there. sarah similar monday is out there. at least one block of king near dearing street is closed right now and we also know some home owners in the area don't have any water right now so we'll check in with sarah coming up in just a few minutes. in the meantime, tucker barnes is in. he is filling in for tony today who is take eggcuple of days off. so off to another warm start. >> it is humid across the area. a little hazy in the live shot. it will be hazy, hot and humid around here later today and you know what that means. the thunderstorms will return, at least the possibility of them will return this afternoon. there is your morning satellite- radar. cold front moving in from the north and west. see it there in western pennsylvania. that will kind of fall apart as it leeches the washington area but enough of that energy will get here that it will lift the atmosphere a little bit and we'll see a few showers and thunderstorms return during the course of pedestrian from around 1:00 this morning. that is where we find the crew in sky fox. for those that were continuing outbound on route 50 in the direction of the bay bridge, one lane is now able to get around this closure that was set up. right now, live pictures, can you see there has been absorbent spread in the highway and now traffic is able to squeeze by to the right. if you are traveling eastbound on other in the intersection of the bay bridge. all of your lane are open westbound. -- all of your lanes are open westbound. if you are traveling in between the roosevelt bridge and memorial bridge, we have two lanes open there. can you stay to the right to independence avenue. what we noticed yesterday coming southbound on 395 off the westbound freeway to exit at main avenue, traffic was snarled so bad that we had delays out of southeast coming across the anacostia bridges because traffic can go no further than 17th street. all traffic from the freeway and main avenue then is forced to go northbound on 17th street and quite frankly, these roads cannot handle that kind of volume. so again today and for the next styx eight weeks, expect this long-term construction project to be in place. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. montgomery county fire officials and the u.s. park police will hold a press con presence later this morning to talk about the dangers of the potomac river. that is where 35-year-old olga gaspar and her 13-year-old daughter emily disappeared on monday. yesterday, crews found one body several miles downriver close to the chain bridge. not yet cheer who that is. but we do know that this is now a recovery operation. that means smaller crews will only respond to possible sightings. a 16-year-old girl who was shot in the head outside a greenbelt apartment this week has tied. there have been no arrests in that monday night shooting on cherry wood lane. neighbors say a man shot the girl and threatened another. if you have any information, greenbelt police would like it hear from you. a maryland teenager convicted of murder will be sentenced later this morning. he was arrested and convicted of killing 35-year-old rosa lydia vasquez when he was 17 years old. her body as found in the plastic container of her home last september. she had been reported missing earlier in the month. reporter saws he was an acquaintance of one of the victim's family members. our big story this morning, another setback for british petroleum engineers trying to stop that oil leak in the gulf of mexico. this is a live look at what is happening 5,000 feet underneath the surface. saw being used to cut through a well pipe became stuck for 1 hours yesterday. crews will now try to use giant shears but though word on when that will begin. bp's goal is to try to put a cap on the blown-out well so the oil can be funneled to ships above the surface. forecasters think that oil will be washing occupy florida shores by friday. president obama has you are coming westbound being awful your lanes remain open. we are now dealing with a structure fire be a two-alarm fire now in northeast washington along minnesota avenue between benning and burros. that has the roadway blocked off there. let's talk about high drive, rock creek parkway, independence avenue. a long-term construction project in place. started yesterday and for the next six to eight weeks, this will tie up your commute coming across the mall. you will fine the work zone behind the lincoln memorial underneath the memorial bridge in front of the steps, that is where this roadworking taking place. that means traffic off of westbound independence avenue can go no further than 15th or 17th streets. from there, you have on go north. that snarled up the commute as you continue off the westbound freeway. it was jamming up traffic badly out of southeast coming across the inbound 11th street bridge as well as south capital street and the douglass bridge. anticipation of this being there for the next six to eight weeks. plan your trip accordingly. there are no easy workarounds for this. this is a long-term project that will have all traffic coming in off the westbound independent enavenue tied up at 15th and 17th street. real quick peek at what else is going on out there. we have the water main break in alexandria along king street. sarah simmons it will be a while that traffic will be impacted, maybe entirely throughout the day. where we are is between 395 and quaker lane. this is on king street. can you see it is still quite a mess back here. we have debris on the roadway from this water main break. we are not quite sure how it happened. it was not construction that was going on around this area. take a look at the video from earlier. you can see when we arrived, there was still water coming out on to the roadway. that was about 5:30 this morning that the water was coming out. i have talk wade few folks that have come threw here that say they are without water this morning and they are frustrated when they woke up and realized they did not have water. >> making sure that the animals have got water and understanding that i won't able to do dishes or take a shower or ready for work. yeah, it is a big hassle. you can't make coffee, can't make a cup of tea this morning. >> back out here live, the crews are still here. what we have here on the scene, i was hearing from virginia american water, they've got people here marking off the pavement because they have to dig up the pavement to get to that water main. we don't know how large the water main is right now and that work is quite a process, something that will take hours. so traffic will be an issue. what they are doing now between quaker lane and 395 is rerouteing it onto this frontage road that goes by the bradley shopping center area. anybody that lives in this area will have to maneuver their way around, maybe possibly try on get on seminary or another exit south of the the king king street exit in order to get onto there but it will be an issue throughout the morning hours. >> lets asee how the rest of the roads are looking. for that, we want to go out to julie wright. right now, what we are talking about is the construction that is ongoing and will fob the next six to eight weeks for those traveling along ohio drive behind the lincoln memorial underneath the memorial bridge and out near the steps. as you travel this area, you are then well aware of this ongoing construction project that started yesterday and how badly it tied up our commute coming out of the southwest washington as you make your way off the freeway. southbound 395 on to main avenue, traffic can go no further than 15 south or 17th streets. that includes the commute off of independence avenue. traffic can go no if you are they're than the world war ii memorial there at 17th. that is what is tying up the drive. we have two lanes available for those traveling between the roosevelt bridge and the memorial bridge and coming off the memorial bridge, you can stay to the right to exit over towards the independence avenue to the left. that will take you over towards 23rd and bacon drive. this construction project will be in effect for the next six to eight weeks. let's take it back inside. authorities checking for a crash eastbound along 66
