don't want to hear. and mosquitos on top of it. weather has a little part in that, i think. let's take a look at our radar. we just had a few pop-up showers here and there to areas of our west and southwest. we can't rule out an isolated shower before the morning hours are over. not going to put a damper on your whole day at all but there is a slit chance that we could see a shower here and there. as we go to the weather maps, let's take a look at where we hit yesterday with our highs. 90degrees at reagan national airport. we hit 91 at dulles and 90 at bwi. we have 79 degrees at annapolis. national airport, 79 as well. we've got 75 degrees at dulles. so temperatures this morning really starting out very much on the warm side. that is i apretty good indication of where we are headed, folks. your daytime high today, 90 degrees but not without some humidity. be prepared for that. you will see a fair amount of sunshine today just a few clouds. it will be hot and sticky and not very comfortable. we have cooler days ahead in the fox 5 accu-weather seven- day forecast. i'll show you that in just a bit. >> let's check in with julie wright to get the latest on the traffic. >> so far, so good this morning. no problems reported south along 270. lanes are open coming in out of hyattstown. no trouble spots to report right now leaving i-706789 you will find your lanes are open on the beltway to and from tysons corner and the springfield interchange. eastbound 66 in great shape leaving manassas headed in towards centreville. one place that was a little tricky is the top side of the beltway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. bill clinton is throwing his support behind president obama. the former president took over the stage at the dnc last night. he threw his support behind the president's re-election who accepts his renomination tonight. clinton spoke for almost an hour delivering a dynamic and sometimes kind of humorous speech. >> i want to nominate a man who is cool on the outside but who burns for america on the inside. >> it's long tradition at the convention for thousands of red, white and blue balloons to come streaming down. there are no balloons in the rafters for this. president obama's speech tonight was supposed to be outdoors and they were going to do fireworks but you can't do that indoors, of course. it is also too late to order 100,000 balloons. coming up in about 30 minutes, we'll get a live report from charlotte to see what we can expect on the night ahead. ght a 12-year-old boy from fort washington has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the beating death of a 2-year- old foster girl living with his family. the boy enter an alford plea in court yesterday. in return, prosecutors dropped the more serious charge of second degree murder. the boy's plea was not an admission of guilt but an acknowledgement that prosecutors had enough evidence to win the case in court. theling girl was found unresponsive in her foster family's home earlier this summer. an attack in the eastern market section of capitol hill has police wondering whether it is connected to another similar crime. >> they both miami-dade on the same street less than three weeks apart. melanie alnwick is live at police headquarters in northwest with the new details this morning. >> reporter: good morning. the victim in this latest case, he just moved to the district a week ago to do an internship on capitol hill. tuesday night, he was attacked. his name is casey adams. he says the two men caught him off guard while he was talking with his wife on his cell phone walking home after midnight. police are looking to see if this attack is connected to the other one a couple of weeks ago. tc maslin was beaten and robbed of his phone as well. now, we do have surveillance video. police released it last week. they say the people in this 2005 hyundai sonata were using maslin's credit card near the crime scene. casey says his attackers took off in a car but he didn't see it. photos of his injuries too gruesome for tv. >> the lacerationswe probably an inch long, right above the eye. the lacerations came from the two punches, mostly this side of my face and my lip. >> reporter: last week, police chief cathy lanier told residents that police have worked very hard to reduce crime in the city, specifically robberies. robberies down from a spike early on this year. but just this labor day weekend, police statistics do report there have been 40 robberies over the labor day weekend. tommy wells said he is very concerned about the recent spike in crime. he thinks police are doing a good job and would like to see more. he is also asking bars and restaurants in the area to make sure they warn their customers to be very careful when they're walking hom> d.c. police are as the public's help as well tracking down a man accused of armed robbery inside a church. take a look at this picture here. it zipped at st. steven's church saturday in northwest. police say the suspect robbed oneperson and pointed a handgun at another. he got away with one person's money, wallet and an iphone. it took take up to a year and a half to determine what caused a deadly train derailment in maryland last movement the report says the train was traveling at 25 miles per hour when the train derailed. that is the set speed limit there. two 19-year-old girls were killed when the train cars carrying coal toppled over. health concerns for two high profile people. >> a big figure in pro football is in a maryland hospital and a popular children's author reveals she has cancer. and kevin mccarthy sits down with hollywood hottie bradley cooper about his new movie, the word. the word. waiting to see the face. >> put out. today begins a second day of deliberations in the drew peterson murder case. a jury is deciding whether the former illinois police sergeant killed his third wife, kathleen savio. jurors requested another look at her body at the murder scene, specifically pictures showing bruises and scratches. he was charged after his fourth wife disappeared in 2007. if convicted, he faced a maximum of 06 years in prison. former ravens owner art modell has been hospitalized in baltimore. there are reports that his vital organs are failing and that his conditioning worsening. he purchased the cleveland browns in 1961 and ended up moving the team to baltimore in 1996. the relocation made him a hero in charm city but not much so in cleveland. he still holds a 1% piece of the rav an. judy blume is opening up about her breast cancer diagnosis. on her blog yesterday, the 74- year-old said she underwant a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery after finding out she had the disease earlier this summer. she says her cancer was not detected by a mammogram or regular physical exam because she has dense breast tissue. her message for women is to get a sonogram. can you take out your cell taking cell phone pictures of some police activity and then ill landlordly taking the man's phone. >> now, they are facing a federal lawsuit over this. fox 5's john henrehan has the story this morning. >> reporter: on july 20th, earl staley ii was walking near the corner of mlk and raleigh street when he says he observed d.c. police officers beating the driver of a motorbike. >> a different police officer was down. they hooked like they were punching him. i went over and got my camera ready to go look at what was going on. i know they're wrong. >> reporter: at that point a vice officer chest bumps him and a second officer -- >> reaches over my back and grabs my phone. he take identify my phone and says i'm not getting it back, that it is illegal of me to take spicts of them on the scene. >> reporter: this incident happened one day after d.c.'s chief of police cathy lanier issued a general order reminding policemen that under the first amendment of the constitution, citizens do have the right to photograph police activity that happens in public. and only a watch commander or other supervisor at the scene can authorize the seizure of camera for evidence purposes. the american civil liberties union has happened staley file a lawsuit against the officers and the police department. >> people have a right for photograph the police. current tell them not to. you can't block their view. you certainly can't take their camera. >> reporter: staley says when he went on the seventh district police station, got his camera phone returned but later discovered the memory card in it was gone. >> three years of my daughter -- picture of my daughter gone down the hole. >> we have hundreds of thousands of interactions with residents and tourists and citizens every year and the aclu has been able to produce two okays in the past five years where we supposedly incident feared with or took a cam are from someone. >> reporter: the fop's chris baumann also told us he doubts some of the specific allegations in the lawsuit. one two of the policemen named sent us an e-mail saying he hasn't had a chance to see the complaint so he doesn't have much a comment. the office of the attorney general is reviewing the lawsuit but at this time have no comment. the lawsuit is seeking monetary damages. coming up, an author turned thief. he told another writer's manuscript. >> that is traveling between bwi marshall on 95 and 295 traveling to and from the beltway. lanes are open on 50 leaving annapolis through bowie headed back in towards the capital beltway. traffic volumes still moving at speed. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. imetraffic. making headlines this morning. a 12-year-old boy is behind bars after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 2-year-old foster child living with his family. the boy's plea was not appear -- an admission of gill but rather that prosecutors had enough evidence to win the case in court. the little girl was found unresponsive in her foster family's home earlier this summer. the national transportation safety board released its preliminary report on a train derailment that killed two teenagers in ellicott city last month. the train was traveling at 25 miles per hour, the set speed limb knit that area. the 19-year-old girls were sitting on the train overpass when the train cars carrying coal toppled over. new details on an attack on capitol hill. there as been a second similar attack on the same street that has police looking into whether or not the crimes are connected. melanie alnwick is live at police headquarters in northwest with the latest. >> reporter: we have two attacks, just blocks apart, both men walking home after midnight and both men robbed of their cell phones. the latest victim, casey adams, says two men caught him off guard. he was talking with his wife on his cell phone walking home after midnight. he was attacked, punched, kicked and robbed. tc maslin was absentee and robbed of his phone as well. both crimes on north carolina avenue southeast near eastern market on capitol hill. police released this surveillance video last week. they say the people in this 2005 hyundai sonata were using tc's credit card near the crime scene. casey says his attackers also took off in the car but he didn't see it. last week, the chief said residents have worked hard to reduce crime in the city. >> now, the police have stepped up patrols. they have quick to say that robberies are down in that area. but to the people that are impacted, especially through any type of violence, it doesn't feel that way. i'm very concerned. until this under control, until we get it down to zero, it is -- nothing is enough until we stop this. >> reporter: now, casey adams just moved to the district a week ago to do an internship on capitol hill. he says he didn't know about the attack on tc maslin until reporters told him about it yesterday. councilman tommy wells is urging restaurant and bar owners in the area to warn their customers to make sure they are very careful walking home in that area after closing. he is also suggesting that people walk in groups whenever possible. in politics now, bill clinton fires up the democratic base. political star powers with as bright as it gets. there was a surprise appearance by president obama after a rousing endorsement officially accept his party's nomination from that stage later on tonight but last night, president clinton was up there and he used it to tell the american people that president obama has laid a soiled foundation for economic recovery but he just needs more time. from political enemies to political collaborators. president obama and former president bill clinton sharing a moment on stage after the 42nd president put his charm on dislay using his reputation as an economic heavy weight to make the case for president obama. >> president obama start wade much weaker economy than i did. listen to me now. no president, no president, not me, not any of my predecessors, no one could have fully repaired all the damage that he found in just four years. >> reporter: clinton, claiming the to the northeast. expected to become a category two hurricane by the time we get into the course of the weekend. it is heading straight for the canadian maritimes and right now, staying quite far you. a new healthy school menu is being put to the test in a local district. the nation's school lunch program is getting an overhaul. but first, the plan needs a thumbs up from kids themselves. beth yorkshire elementary school in prince william county. they were joined by a big cheese, the deputy under secretary. >> every food fits in the diet. it is just how often you eat it and how big your portion sizes are. >> reporter: the usda has launched a program called the school day just got healthier changing menus based upon an act of congress. the changes in the menu mean there will be more of some things and less of others. >> we'll see more fresh fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, looking at reduction in fats and sugars. >> reporter: the kids are testing five new menu items. if
