gambling. scherr youly has more. >> reporter: prince george's county has lobbied for a megacasino overlooking the waterfront here at national harbor but for weeks now, there has been no deal on expanding gambling in maryland. well, now, with the governor's expected announcement, it appears that the county and national harbor could soon hit the jackpot. administration sources say that governor o'malley will announce at a press conference at 10:00 this morning that he is call august special legislative session. it is the first step to building a proposed mgm grand casino at national harbor. lawmaker are expected to vote a referendum to expand the number from five to six, allow table games and create a gambling commission that could compensate current casino owners with tax breaks. rushern baker likes the odds. >> i think we have a great chance of getting the referendum through. as i said, it is about bringing revenues in to help the state of maryland help bridge county. >> reporter: a special session is no guarantee the state will expand gambling. any referendum would have to go before voters for approval. even then, there are no assurances that the casino would go here at national harbor. that is because developers at rosecroft raceway are also expressing interest in having i casino there. the announcement expected at 10:00 this morning. that is the latest. back to you y thank you. and as we wait to find out what is going on with the proposed plan to increase the number of casinos in maryland, one place is already expandingen last night, maryland live casino unveiled more than 55 new slot machines and electronic table games. the addition is part of the second phase of the $500 million gaming and entertainment venue. later this morning, d.c. officials are cutting the ribbon on the refurbished adams morgan district. it has cost almost $7 million and took 17 months but the project was sy and disruptive for businesses in the corridor. mayor vincent gray will be on hand for the rub bonn cutting set for 10:00 this morning. -- for the ribbon cutting set for 10:00 this morning. park police are looking for a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the crescent trail. a man attacked the woman from behoned and put -- behind and put her in a choke hold and caused her to pass out. when she woke up, she screamed and the suspect ran away. baltimore county police hope these pictures there on your screen will help them find the man wanted in the abduction of cal ripken, jr.'s mother. police will not say where the pictures were taken. the 74-year-old woman was kidnapped from her home on tuesday and found safe the next day. a 58-year-old man is recovering this morning after being stabbed at a maryland post office. witnesses say this all started when an angry customer confronted someone for cutting in line at the facility on new hampshire avenue in silver spring. two men got into a fight in the lobby. an employ i don't ended up setting off some person spray and the angry customer stabbed the man and then ran off. he was arrested about a mile away. the victim is expected to be okay. new developments now in the colorado movie theater massacre. a judge has barred the university of colorado from releasing any records for shooting suspect james holmes. he spent a year studying neuroscience there but the judge says releasing the records would impede the investigation and lawmakers on capitol hill, they are now honoring the victims. congress adopted a resolution yesterday that recognizes the people that the mayor wants the media to focus on. gray has not been charged way in wrongdoing but because he refused to talk about, it the media has been at his every turn and at times, gray has shown his expanding gambling in maryland. >> he is expected to announce his decision later on this morning. sherry ly is live at national harbor. >> reporter: god morning. prince george's county does have the plans. they do have the site here at national harbor overlooking the waterfront for a propose ad casino. what they don't have is the go- ahead from lawmakers that. could all change today with the governor's expected decision on a special session that could bring a casino here one step closer to reality. governor marten o'malley had state leaders coming and going in and out of meetings and for week, there was no deal on expanding gambling. >> i think there is a broad consensus to be had here and that will allow us to resolve this gaming issue in maryland. >> reporter: now, administration sources say today, the governor will announce he has reached that consensus and will call a special legislative session. the lawmaker are expected to rote on a reverend automatic to go from five to six casinos and allow table games. >> i think we have a great chance of getting the referendum through. >> rushern baker backs expanding gambling. >> as i said to the governor, it is about bringing revenues in to help the state of maryland and help prince george's county. >> one of the arguments opponents of expanding casino gambling in maryland have used is that by going from five to six casinos, customers would leave the sites that are already approved. in fact, several visitors at national harbor told us maryland already has enough gambling. >> that is not something that i especially would look for at national harbor. because you have a nice distinctive quality experience here without it. >> i live across the street from the arundel mill mall where they put maryland live so i mean it is not too bad. i would go. >> well, i'm not really a big- time gambler but yes, i think i would probably question visit there. >> reporter: a special session is not an automatic windfall for more gambling. any referendum from annapolis still needs voter approval in november. rosecroft raceway has its eye on a special session. developers there don't want to be locked out as a potential casino site. so while national harbor is the odds-on frontrunner, there is no agreement even among the gambling supporters that national harbor here should be the site of the state's sixth casino. that is the late here at national harbor. back to you. >> thank you. a fox 5 follow-up now to a tragic story out of woodbridge, virginia where a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself earlier this week. he died wednesday after police say he found a loaded gun inside the family's pickup truck parked outside his home. according to his grandmother, the truck was locked but he was able to get inside by climbing through a sliding back window. that is where he found the gun. while she is mourning the loss of her grandson, she is not blaming anyone for his death but she does think guns are too available. he lived with his mother, stepfather and five brothers. in the colorado movie massacre, a judge overseeing the criminal case is ordering the university of colorado not to release the suspect's school records. joe madison was enrolled in a doctoral program there but a judge in colorado says that would hinder the investigation. -- james holmes was enrolled in a doctoral
