the inbound 11th street bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. our top story, tragedy for the family of maryland congressman elijah cummings. his nephew was killed during a home invasion. >> this happened just week after another attack. stacy cohan has the latest details. >> reporter: the family of christopher cummings actually believes the shooting friday morning may have been a revenge killing. sometime early in the morning, someone broke into the off- campus home that cummings shared with roommate jake kerry. kerry was shot first and remains in critical condition. christopher was then shot and killed. the home is just 50 yards from the old dominion campus. chris' father james cumming says his son foiled a similar afact -- attack just a few weeks ago. >> christopher saw him coming in, pushed him down the steps. the guy pulled a gun on high son but christopher was able to force him out. they believe this is a possibility that this is the same person who came back for vie -- for revenge. >> reporter: police have not provided any information yet on suspects in this shooting. reporting live in the newsroom, i'm stacy cohan. back to you. police in the district have a suspect in the beating two of d.c. police officers over the weekend. they were attacked in chinatown saturday night not far from the gallery place chinatown metro station. there was a report that the officers were beaten by a homeless man with a pipe. but police are not confirming that report yet. in prince george's county, police are looking for a driver who hit and killed a machine on a motorcycle in riverdale. investigators say an suv struck 31-year-old della von beam early saturday morning at riverdale road and 63rd place and then took off. police think it was a lincoln navigator similar to this one and likely has damage to the left back end. after several d.c. council member are caught up in ethical investigates, the council memberss are holding a hearing on revising the city's ethics law. today's hearing on a comprehensive ethics reform bill comes as harry thomas, jr. and kwame brown are under investigate for possible ethics violations. also new this morning, later today, the national archives and three presidential libraries will release the complete pentagon papers, all 7,000 pages. today marks the 40th anniversary of their original publication in the "new york times." the classified documents shed light on the u.s. involvement in vietnam and triggered a constitutional crisis over freedom of the press. new photos of new york congressman anthony weiner have popped up on the internet. some were supposedly taken in the gym of the house of representatives. wiener announced he is taking a leave of absence. key democrats agreed with republicans on the sunday talk shows that weiner should resign in the wake of this photo scandal. >> at the end of the day, a member of congress makes their own decision and that is certainly going to be up to anthony weiner but we have made clear that he needs to resign. he needs to focus on getting his own personal issues in order, focus on his family and do the right thing. >> house democratic leader nancy pelosi has now called for weiner's resignation saying he needs to get hope without the pressure of being a member of congress. >> other democrats calling for his resignation including steny hoyer, chris van hollen and steve israel. for the first time since she was shot in the head at a meet and greet in tucson, arizona, new out for -- note owes of congresswoman gabrielle giffords family relied on the penfield reef lighthouse to keep them off the rocky shoals in western long island sound. you were a lobster man. your father was a lobster man. his fort was an oysterman. >> that's right. >> how important was this lighthouse to you and your family? >> well, to us, it was kind of a security blanket out there in the sound coming in. when hurricane pauline pulling your traps, the light was there is had. you heard that whistle and it was coming to know the light was there. >> but modern advancements like gps have made this 135-year-old beacon obsolete. and now the coast guard is putting penfield light on the auction block meaning anyone who wants to buy a lighthouse can bid on this one on the coast guard's auction site. it's water lover's dream with four bedrooms and a bathroom and, of course, unbeatable views of long island sound. the court coast guard admits the inside is? need of more than just a little tlc with its gutted walls, asbestos and lead paint problems. williams says it is also haunted by the ghost of a former lighthouse keeper. >> fred jordan was a lighthouse keeper in the early 1900s, died on his row boat coming off the rocks. >> there have been many sightings of what we believe is fred's ghost. >> reporter: potential buys include the town of fairfield, connecticut whose residents have looked out on the lighthouse since it was built in 1874. williams hopes whoever buys it will restore it. how important is it to preserve this lighthouse? >> i think it is really important. it is one of the most important historical structures here in bridgeport at black rock. it was a key point where the ferry boats that left from bridge tort to new york in the 1800s had to pass every day. he says future generations will benefit from our big story today is the death of king man elijah cummings' nephew, christopher cummings. the family of christopher cummings says he died trying to fend off and an attacker. christopher cummings' father, james cummings, said someone broke into the home five weeks ago but that his son chased that suspect away. early friday morning, another intruder broke in, shot the first floor roommate jake kerry and then christopher. kerry remainss in critical condition. christopher was killed. his uncle is said to be devastated. >> he is going to take some sax. he is going to work with the congressman from that particular district in virginia to see if they can get something done, something to bring this case to light before it goes cold. >> norfolk police and old dominion university officials admit there has been a spike in crime both on and off campus. christopher cummings was a junior majoring in criminal justice. he was staying in norfolk over the summer so he could work and take a class at the university. also in virginia, signal bay water park in manassas is closed after an apparent chemical leak sickened at least a dozen children saturday. officials are investigating exactly what went wrong and a technician will look at the water system this week. the park is scheduled to reopen next weekend. the body after a woman has been recovered in the washington channel. we are told some boaters were out near the capital yacht club on water street in southwest. a woman in one of the boats jumped into the water around 10:00 saturday night but did not resurface. rescue crews were sent out. they found her body four hours later but so far, no word on why she jumped into the water. in prince george's county, police are looking for a driver who hit and killed a man on a motorcycle
