much like yesterday we'll feature sunshine today but you'll combine cool temperatures as well as winds out of the north and west and we won't get a chance to warm up during the course of the day. 25 in both baltimore and dulles. cooler in frederick at 23. and i'm looking for some warmer air, fredericksberg is the winner, 32. so you get the idea. chilly start to the day. it will be a cool afternoon with high temperatures as mentioned in the upper 30s to about 40. there isur morning satellite, just a few clouds extreme ago cross southern portions of viewing area. we should be die today as high pressure builds in. big changes for the weekend and we do have a possibility here that we could see some snow and the potential for some substantial snow during the day on saturday. i'll have more details on that coming up. but sunshine with high temperatures around 40. and i'll be back with more on the weather, but tony, back to you at the desk. we continue to follow our breaking news this morning. redskins vice president of operations vinnie cerrato has stepped down. >> fox 5 confirming that information just over an hour ago. david feldman joins us with the latest. dave, this is something people are talking about as a possibility but it is happening today. >> i think the timing is surprising. good morning allison. >> good morning. >> it shows dan snyder will make some changes and i think people questioned whether dan snyder would get out of his own way and this is really a time that -- a statement that he will do that. he is going to step aside and maybe hire a football oprations guy that will do it. he's been alive with vinnie cerrato ever since he took over. except for one year, remember marty schottenheimer fired vinnie because he wanted control and as soon as schottenheimer left, they hired vinnie back. i think he did this out of desperation. i think he was losing the fan base and people were very critical of moves at the top and i think he said, look, this is a way that i can show people i'm willing to change. i think it's a positive sign for dan snyder, that he is willing, tony, to say, look -- in a way he's not firing himself, but he's looking at himself. because he's been so aligned with vinnie cerrato. i run this team, vinnie and i will make the decisions. that hasn't worked. so it's a very good sign. >> has the redskins organization itself issued a statement about this? >> the redskins have said he resigned, but there is probably going to be a press conference today. but they haven't announced one or whether they'll make vinnie available. we have phone calls out to vinnie. he hasn't returned my call yet. vinnie, if you're listening, please call me back. but there was a part of a statement that was very increaseful, he said i worked with great coachesw like joe gibbs, greg blatche and sherm lewis. and sherm lewis has been here for a cup of coffee. so he's already missing him. he doesn't mention jim zorn. >> that is interesting. >> so, look, people will ask what does this move mean for jim zorn? >> i think it further ensures the fact he won't be back here next year as head coach. already people thought no way will he be back, now they'll hire their own football ops guy, maybe a guy who is football ops and a hope. mike holmgren did that in seattle and green bay and maybe in cleveland, but other people have done it with total control. maybe someone will do that. but whoever he hires, you would think, you're going to let that guy hire the coach. >> but i have to ask a question as a layman in all of this. what does it mean for the team? because they looked really good, the last time they were out there, it was the young guys in there now? what does this mean for the momentum? does it make a difference? is he the players guy? that kind of inside. >> who is the player's guy? >> vinnie cerrato. >> no. i don't think ny players will be heart broken that vinnie is gone. the interesting thing is what happens with jim zorn. how do the players respond? because they've been playing much better. they're playing 30 points again new orleans and lost. they 30 against the raiders and won. i don't think this will affect the on field product. jason campbell has been playing better and so has fred davis. i don't think it will affect on the field, but it will affect the fan base. how people say, we knew dan snyder was never going to sell this team, but he got rid of the guy that he loved the most and that he played racquetball with every day and he trusted his decision, maybe dan snyder finally gets it and will let else who knows more about football than he does make some football decisions. >> there will be talk about this all day long. dave feldman on top of the story since it broke this morning and thank you very much and we'll look forward to hearing from you this morning. >> long day, feldy. >> i'm already sweating. >> that's right. well now as you can imagine, and you know, local sports radio shows are abuzz. we'll check in with our friday football forecast crew the junkies at 106.7 the fan. are you there? >> good morning. >> good morning to you. you guys started talking about this early this morning. i have to say, even though many of us have thought this might happen at the end of the season, still a shock particularly with three games left. what do you know and what are you hearing? >> a lot of speculation. you're hearing big names like mike holmgren and shanahan. holmgren was in negotiation with the browns and i think snyders had to make his play now. and the split was inevitable. and the fact that they did it right on the heels of holmgren leaving and we hearin the neighborhood of 8-$10 million a year offered to mike. and if you're a coach or a general manager candidate and in high demand, after you get that offer, the first phone call you make is to dan snyder and the people in washington. all i know is that christmas has come early for a lot of redskins fans because vinnie cerrato is being shipped out of town. it's a franchise he's helped run into the ground for the past decade. and i think most redskins fans have to approve the mood. >> we want to keep in mind, a man has never lost his job, which is never good. >> right. >> but this is something that is fascinating because in washington, the football fans are very savvy. and to have fans walking around with signs and getting shirts made saying get rid of vinnie, that's unusual. usually the attention is on a quarterback or something. this is an executive with the team. but it does seem to be setting the stage for a strong move to get a name coach in there and maybe a general manager to run the team? >> i think the first move is going to be a general manager or personnel guy. the rooney rule has been expended to front people people too, particularly a front manager. so they'll have to name a new manager. some said they could name him vice president of football operations but if that's the case, there may not be an imminent hiring today or tomorrow, there may be some procedural things that the redskins have to do first. >> but we do know, tony, that dan snyder loves the big news splash and likes to be the biggest story in the nfl and this leads us to believe there will be a huge signing, holmgren, shanahan, but someone big will come to redskins park. whatever be talking to you transpires today at redskins park. thank you for joining us. >> thank you. >> that's the junkies at 106.7 the fan. >> we want to know what you think about the resignation. go to myfoxdc.com and click on the cerrato story to blog your thoughts. we may read some responses if they're good and clean later. >> we hope so. norm big story we're following this morning, after five years of a father in the middle of a custody bat st. louis on his way to pick up his son. >> a brazil high court has ruled in david ldman's favor and they could be reunited as early as tomorrow. gurvir joins us with details. >> reporter: good morning. it's a long and drawn out process for david goldman who has only had limited visits with his 9-year-old son. david is hoping this ruling won't be overturned and he'll finally be reunited with his son. we caught up with him before he left for brazil. >> i'm hoping to go get him and bring him home this town. >> reporter: shawn goldman taken there for man five years ago by his mother who then later died must be returned to his father. a court meeting in a closed session ruled 3-0 that the boy should be handed over to his father david at a u.s. embassy on friday. >> the last 5 and a half years have been too awful for words to ever even justify, or words can even describe how terrible life has been. and hopefully we'll start a new chapter. >> reporter: but officials concede the ruling is almost certain to be appealed and goldman might not get his son until next year. he's been ying since his wife took her son to brazil. she divorced dave and remarried and died in child birth last year. the boy is now slated to be returned to his father. >> have you thought about what you're going to say to him when you get there? >> i'll wait to see him. and hopefully i will see him. and hopefully it will be a joyful, happy re union. and i just have nhing but love for my son. >> reporter: the brazilian husband of goldman's ex-wife argued that he should have custody, but the court ruled the boy belongs in new jersey in a cross treating regarding cross border child abductions. >> and the court order says he has to be turned over within 48 hour and that would be by friday -- tomorrow. but again, they could appeal, there could be a lot of things and i har -- i heard the father say in one news report that he won't believe it until he has his son and on his way home. >> because so many things have happened during the five years. >> thank you. another big story this morning, the serial rapist on the loose. place say a man is wanted in connection with 13 sex crimes over a 13 year period. the latest one in virginia city where two girls were raped in the woods on halloween night. dna evidence links the attackers to connecticut, rhode island and maryland. the attacker is said to have taken off a bicycle. police bicycle. >> he used a handgun in 1997 and a knife on two objections and physical force on yet another. >> the victims have only been able to provide a vague description of the attacker. there could be a break through at the international climate congress. when health care has arranged that could get the wheels of conference moving again. and the holidays can be a joyous time to spend with family but those family gathers can be stressful. some tips on how to survive the gatherings. >> i'm good. >> and you have five great points. and it's decide what you want this to event to be. and it sounds like it's just a family event, but no, it's more. >> it's always more than that. this is an important point because most people get so bogged dwn with the food and the logistics and all of that, they forget what they want from their holiday which is the love and connection of family. and so here is a couple of examples of how to think about this. let's imagine that you are blending two families together so maybe it's a new marriage or something like that and you've got in laws that get to know each other or kids from both sides of the family that have to connect. so for your dinner or your sitaround, break up the family clicks and bring people together who don't know each other so they can connect. or if you have an elderly person in your family and this could be their last holiday alive, take some time to share stories and photos, anything to honor them and what they've contributed to the family. but the bottom line is move away from another year of a bunch of people coming together and eating and growing home to make it something meaningful but you have to put ought into it in advance because it just doesn't happen. >> and this leads into the second one, which is determine who you will be, because in that role, you're really you're a life coach. this person will just be a coach. break up this click here and there. and i love the line that you say, decide whether you'll be a peace maker in a conversation or whether you'll be the enforcer. there is consequences to both of them. i love that. >> it's really interesting, you bring a lot of personalities to the table. some are agreeable and some are less so. and while you can't control what aunt sue says at the table, you can control how you respond. so for instance, she said something that off the wall, you don't have to assert yourself to be right. ybe it's, aunt sue, really interesting point, appreciate your perspective, put duct tape over your mouth and keep it moving. sometimes you can be right but not have peace. >> and don't let people treat you how they want to and i love the boundary busters. don't let boundary busters in your home. >> it's funny, because for some people they dread the holidays because this is a year where the mother-in-law will take over the kitchen and make them feel like a lousy wife or their dad treats them like a 2-year- old and how people treat you has to do with your willingness to make someone else's opinion more important than your own. so make this the year that you respectfully reinsert yourself back into your own life and it could be as simple as saying, dad, i know you're coming from a place of love but here is the decision i've made and it's not up for debate. and then it's duct tape over your mouth. because you don't have to engage in conflict when you've decided into the place of owning your own life. >> no boundary buster. and also play with those who wants to play. >> and in any family gathering, let's say it's ten people. you have eight people all in. they're having a great time and contributing and then you have two raining on everybody else's parade. focus on eight. the two will come on board or they won't. and if they want to pick up their marbles and go home, let them go. focus on the people bringing life, not those who are sucking life from you. >> and the last tip, and i love this one, because you can't control everything, sometimes you just have to let it go. do what you can do and then just sit down and eat the turkey sur self- >> exactly. control what you can control. >> it's the truth. >> stuff happens. and so trust that whatever comes up in your family gathering, expect it or not, let it be part of a bigger plan and just kind of roll with it. don't sweat the small stuff. the entire dinner can burn, if if you're sitting around the table with your friends eating pizza, you are blessed indeed, so those are the things to remember. >> i hope you're local because we'll be calling on you. >> i am. >> happy holidays. >> happy holidays to you. >> tony, great advice. >> so the strategy of locking yourself if the bedroom with the bottle of wine doesn't work? >> don't do that one. >> vanessa says no. >> thank you very much. coming up, she's a local girl turned grammy award winning superstar, and now tony braxton is out with a new single. she's joining us live to talk about it. and holly is getting ready for the holidays with what has become a holiday tradition. >> reporter: you're right. it looks like christmas, sounds like christmas, fls like christmas, as we are on stage at the encore theatrical arts project this morning. a tale of two santas is their show this year. coming up, we're going to see if they can fit me into a number. and we'll tell you how you can come on out and see the show yourself live later. started taking airborne to help support my immune system when i travelled. but then i realized... there are so many other times my immune system could use help. sfx: [waaaaaahhh!] wife: guess who's teething? is it conceivable that there was a conversation between snyder and cerrato and he said, at the end of the season, this is going to be over and sine just said well then i quit now. it seems off that there is three weeks left. >> that could have happened. i think dan snyder felt he was losing the fan base and people weren't going to fedex field and people weren't watching -- but still watching on tv on fox 5, but weren't going to the stadium, and making it a lessen joyable experience and people we talked about were always negative about the redskins. i believe dan snyder said you know what, the one thing i can do to show them i'm totally committed, they always thought he this gotten his own way, so now he fires the one guy he's been aligned with during his entire career that he trusts more than anybody and people who thought he didn't think was doing a good job. people who worked at his own radio station made fun of vinnie cerrato. a lot of people were taking shot at vinnie. dan said, look at me, i will change. i will get rid of him. i am willing to change and fire the most comfortable person i'm with and get rid of him to see if things will work out. and, by the way, allison, doing it amidst of a good streak. now we have a statement from the redskins -- they released a statement about 30-40 minutes ago. where vinnie cerrato said a couple of things, athong them saying i had great pleasure working with great coaches such as joe gibbs and greg blatche and sherm lewis. does that seem funny to you. who is not mentioned? jim zorn is not mentioning. >> taking a shot. >> he said the redskins staff and some of the best professional players in the world, i wish them the best. i also had the privilege of working for a franchise supported by the most loyal fans in the nfl. dan snyder's statement said more importantly, vinnie cerrato is my friend and he's been there for me and the redskins. he's the consume at optimist and has made decisions best for the team. and i think cerrato is going out on the upper road and the only thing i don't understand is sort of a shot to jim zorn. i don't see the upside of that because it's a clear omission, not to mention the head coach. sherm lewis that's been there for a cup of coffee. >> i've coached longer than she -- herm lieu. >> and i've had more coffee. >> we'll have a press conference this afternoon and they'll be big changes and we'll find out. now we turn our attention to tucker barnes. >> very cold. we have temperatures still below 30. it will be slow to get warm out there and we have the potential for the snow event on saturday. let's start with temperatures. 29 right now at reagan national. you can see area wide we remain below the freezing mark and we still have winds out of north and west at about 10-15 miles per hour. 27 at this hour in gaithersburg for you. 27 out at dulles. 28 in manassas. so again very cold temperatures. fredericksberg is the warm spot at 33 for you. so again, cold day. winds out of the north and west. windchills will hang out in the upper 20s. that's about it. much like yesterday. the good news of the forecast today, we're featuring a lot of sunshine. just a little cloudiness to the south of the city. it won't amount to much. we're expecting dry weather across the region today as high pressure continues to build in. let's talk about the next couple of days and the potential for some snow around here this weekend. there is our developing storm system, bringing heavy rain to portions of southeast texas and into the gulf states. this will be an area of low pressure tracking across the south and then off the carolina coast as we get into the weekend. what i'm going to show you is one of our commuter models. this is our own rpm computer model here at fox 5 and i'll put in motion, it looks like the snow will break out across the washington area by 5:00 saturday morning and with the center of low pressure passing to the south and east, this will mostly be a snow event here in town. you can see the snow-rain line not too far off to the south and east. we'll see how that lines up to determine how much snow we'll get. it could be through saturday night and into early sunday morning. it's possible we'll see snow flying out there. sagain substantial significance, we use these words when we're concerned about the possibility of snow in washington. but there could definily be accumulating snow around here on saturday. sunny today, school temperatures, winds out of north at about 10-15 miles per hour. and the five-day forecast, cloud up tomorrow, 38 for an noon high. snow on saturday, the snow will stick to area roadways, sunday and monday temperatures back in the 30s. we'll fine tune the forecast and try to get some accumulation amounts just as soon as we can. back to the desk. >> i have a big birthday party for syndey who turns 9 on sunday. so i'm hoping for low accumulation. we are talking to grammy award winning singer tony braxton next. >> and we want to say thank you to ictoria treys. she provided us with this lovely ornament for our fox 5 christmas tree. stay with us. we'll be right back with tony braxton. 'syo dd [ music ] a video so hot it makes you get flustered. she's won a grammy and sold over 140 million records worldwide. tony braxton recently signed with atlantic records and her highly anticipated debut album pulse is set for release next year. we're lovelyto have tony live from branham. you're lovey. >> thank you. >> just lovely. i need to be professional. good to see you. welcome back to town. >> thank you. >> how are you? >> i'm great. it's good to be back. and we'll talk about the album and the single is out and doing well on the charts. but you're name while it's been in the news, had you a health scare going on, the financial situation, so people genuinely want to know how are you? how are you doing, how is your health and your life these days? >> my health is good. i'm much better. i had a scary thing last year, i was diagnosed with something called myovascular angiea. i'm on medication, i'm exercising, i'm watching what i eat and back at work. and i'll feeling great. i'm 100%. >> that's great. that's good to hear. you are very excited. you got a new deal with atlantic records. how is that moving from one deal to another. for some artists it can be dramatic. >> sometimes it's challenging, because you're used to playing the game with the same players, but i'm excited about being with atlantic, they understand me and they understand what i want to be a classic artist but still want to try new things. >> and when you say classic artists, what does that mean? >> i'm a artist that was out in the 80s and the music industry has changed and i'm considered classic. 90s with considered classic. >> al ready >> yes, right. >> and what can we expect in the new album. >> traditional songs, a new -- new songs. and we have a strong called unbreak my heart. usually i'm speaking to men, but on this song i'm talking to men, trying to help them treat us better. >> and i think on your last regular album, not holiday album, you had written some songs. you're doing on this one. >> writing is great. i've been playing piano since i was like 10 years old and i've been playing for a long time and people don't know that and so writing is easy for me. >> you have a song out yesterday and tell me about the song and i understand it was doing well on the chart. >> my new single called yesterday is out and it's been hard for me, i have an autistic son and he's talking and doing well and the song is called yesterday and it's about being in a relationship and you have to let it go and work on tomorrow's things. >> and you're going to be on b.e.t.'s show leading women and that will be on monday evening. that show -- that takes an up close and personal look at your life. we've known so much about you over the years, are you comfortable sharing some of the intimate moments of your life or is that tough to do?
