. a virginia teenager trial in prince william county facing charges stemming from a deadly crash last year. christopher suarez is charge on charge -- charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of wreckless driving. he was speeding on log hill road in heymarket when he hit a dear, lost control of the car and hit a tree. two 15-year-old girls died in his car and police say no one was wearing a seatbelt. changes are being made to hybrid and electric cars to keep the brians safe. many complain the vehicles are too quiet making him a danger to visually impaired pedestrians. manufacturers are adding artificial noise to the cars trying to fix the problem, but some worry that that may not be enough. allison seymour has the story. >> reporter: crossing a hybrid- filled street can be stressful if you can't see the quiet cars coming. >> and you have a couple of quiet cars, hybrid cars in that surge and you can easily make a mistake about when that is the most appropriate time to cross. >> reporter: researchers found blind pedestrians are twice as likely to be hit by quiet cars than gas-burning vehicles at low speeds. >> and to tell whether the -- whether the internal combustion car was coming from the right or left. >> reporter: earlier this year, president obama signed the pedestrian safety enhancement act giving auto manufacturers until 2017 to come up with a solution to the problem of noiseless cars. some companies installed artificial sound systems to new hybrid and electric vehicle models like the toyota prius. the nissan leap. >> when a driver sees it coming up on somebody, they can push the button on the end of the blinker stock and sends out a nice chirp to let the pedestrian know they're coming up on them. >> the chirp button is at the end. just push it. >> there is no consensus on exactly what a hybrid should sound like. he wants the sound to be uniform and not customized. >> whether it's a digital robotic sound or birds chirping, i don't think that is going to be intooative for pedestrians to to know this is a car. >> not everyone agrees that silent vehicles present a new danger. the real problem is distracted drivers. the very spring storm that we're dealing with forced nasa to delay the transfer of the space shuttle enterprise to new york city. it was supposed to fly over the big apple landmarks on the back of a 7:47 like discovery's big show last week and for now, enter prize is staying parked at dulles. once the weather clears up, it will be transferred to jfk airport. nasa said that that won't be until at least wednesday. good plan. >> and that makes them appreciate more the great weather from last citizen tuesday. >> exactly. >> that is peect, isn't it? >> it's great. >> we would have had a tough time and that was a thrill for everybody. >> yeah. >> and they threaded the needle perfectly for discovery and you want to hold off getting it to new york. and today, that is ugly. >> and that is crazy. laura, a few reports of the snow mixing in and with some pellets of gropple. >> yes. >> and april is volatile. >> it is. >> and there is some warm air and a big shock that came up the coast yesterday that is produces snow and on radar, things are winding down locally and we expect a couple of scattered showers, some may contain the pellets of gropple and wet snow, almost hard to detect it. we saw it on radar earlier showing up as a bright spot and these are winding down and producing gusty winds. through the overnight hours, the showers are going to shut off around the region and to thatsenel in radar. you can notice that it's decreasing a bit with that in the last hour and the snow to the west and that is about four to 10 inches of snow and into new york state and some reports of power outages and some rain on the back side, the temperatures in the 30s and that is crazy. everyone put away the snow equipment after the snow-free winter here through pennsylvania and into new york state. i wanted to show you a great picture from mathias, west virginia, and thank dawn and her husband for sending it us to. it's 3,000 fight, due west of woodstock, virginia, on the other side of interstate 81. two to three inches of snow picked up out there and that is looking pretty. again, a lot of these trees do have their foliage on them and we worry about the power outages and that is so far so good. frostburg, maryland, two to four inches of heavy, wet snow and to baird, west virginia, three inches and mcneil, west virginia, an inch 1/2 and most of those to the west at higher elevations and a few more hours of advisory and in that pink here, winter warnings and that is for garrett county until 2 in the morning and that is for the lower elevations and with two to five inches and that is going to be closer to two and as temperatures drop, the easier chance for those snow showers to accumulate and that does appear to wind down. today, 50 degrees here and that is with an average of 69 and to columbus, 55; chicago, 57 and in that influence of the nor'easter, things are warming up. locally, down to 39 degrees in the district and maybe near 40 for some spots and most places are in the 30s and with that gusty win, showers winding down and staying breezy. tomorrow, sunshine and could there be a spotty shower here and there in the best chance north and east, yes, a temperature of sick degrees and that is below average. at 8 in the morning, sunshine, 44; by noon, 56 and by 5:00, 58 degrees with spotty showers. would you like it to be warmer than that?
