surviving victim until the evidence said otherwise. >> with the original story that we've been told, the original, you know, impressions that we were going on led us to believe this might have been a random crime of opportunity and that's what we believed for the first couple of days. >> reporter: norwood told police she and her co-worker 30- year-old jayna murray went back to the lululemon athletic clothing store friday night after brittany claimed to have left her wallet. she then said two masked men wearing gloves confronted them, beat and sexually assaulted them, killed murray and left norwood tied up. turns out police say norwood's injuries were minor and likely self-inflicted and there was more that didn't add up. >> there were only two sets of footprints and one belonged to ms. norwood and the second belonged to a larger shoe. agained it was a size 4 it teen shoe and -- we determined it was a size 14 shoe and it belonged in the store and we found it in the store. >> reporter: investigators said norwood left evidence in the victim's car likely when she moved the vehicle. for days police worked the evidence including using surveillance on a person of interest, a tip generated from the public, but finally all roads led back to norwood. >> when we respond to a case like this, all we had was what we believed was a surviving victim told us and you have to take victims, especially victims of sexual assault, you have to take their story as truthful. you have to work on that assumption in the beginning. >> reporter: that leaves the question motive. police say a witness in the apple store next-door heard a loud heated argument that night between two women. if the argument was the cause of all this, police aren't saying. norwood has her first court date tomorrow morning. >> while i have you here, has there been a confession? >> reporter: not that we know of. police aren't saying about that. they did say she was cooperating day to day coming in telling her story until today. we may hear from her tomorrow morning in court. a vigil held tonight to honor 30-year-old jayna murray. fox 5's laura evans was there, continues our live team coverage. >> reporter: it was about this time one week ago jayna murray was murdered and tonight while there is still sadness made evident by this growing memorial of flowers, notes and momentos, there is a bit of relief here in bethesda that place have made an arrest. a vigil was held at 8:00 tonight. the group began with prayer by candlelight inside the mindfulness center on elm street. then walked through bethesda row holding their candles. they understanded by singing amazing grace across the street from the -- ended by sing ago mazing grace across the street from the -- singing amazing grace across the street from the lululemon store. >> it's hard to figure out what's going on, but again a shock that somebody would be involved. >> i think generally speaking people feel pretty safe, but knowing that there aren't two masked men out there committing pretty awful crimes is a fairly big relief. >> it's horrible to think that somebody could do that to their co-worker. >> that shocked me as well and i used to live here in bethesda and nothing like this ever happened. so when this happened, it's just got really scary. porter: are remaining ever present tonight near bethesda. there was also a large police presence for most of the night. the downtown area still abuzz at this hour over this shocking turn of events tonight. it was an outcome few expected. i can also tell you lululemon is saying this store in bethesda will be closed indefinitely. back to you. police in frederick, maryland, are looking for a killer after a burger king employee of found dead. it happened early this morning at the restaurant on patrick street. police believe a woman manager was accosted by a gunman around 5:30 in the morning. visitors think the motive was robbery. the victim's name has not been -- investigators think the motive was robbery. the victim's name has not been released. the nuclear crisis at a crippled japanese nuclear plant continues. here are new photos of the damaged fukushima dai-ichi plant. steam is rising from the no. 3 reactor, the one in the middle. today japanese officials reclass filed the accident rating at plant from a level 4 to level 5. meanwhile search and rescue crews continue to comb the debris. one team pulled a young man from a crushed house. he's now recovering in a hospital. today people across japan held a moment of silence to mark one week since the quake and tsunami struck. the disaster is only beginning to take its toll on automakers worldwide. one u.s. plant has temporarily shut down and that may be just the beginning. the disaster has already forced toyota to stop production until at least next week in japan. about 70% of vehicles sold in the u.s. are north american made. however, the new prius hybrid is assembled in japan. some dealers already taking advantage of expected shortages. >> you're going to see a price spike certainly in the popular models. >> reporter: general motors has temporarily shut down a truck plant in louisiana because they could not get enough japanese made parts. ford motor company has not been affected yet. >> we have had no production disruptions, but we're going to continue to monitor, continue to work with our suppliers and minimize any impact on our operations and i think the whole industry will go through that and this will be a situation that will play itself out literally over the next days and weeks. >> reporter: the shutdowns will become more common in the weeks ahead. the reason? lack of parts from japanese suppliers affected by the destruction and the rolling blackouts. vehicle in the world has at least one japan made auto part. like the electronics that go into dashboard displays. a general motors spokes person says more shutdown announcements may come as early as monday. >> you could see a terrific spike in up employment in the united states because of the very large multiplier we have for automotive production. >> reporter: and the parts that are in demand are not easy to come by. most are sophisticated electronics, not lug nuts and tires that could be produced nearly anywhere. >> there's just no built uprear serve except for what might be on a ship on its -- up reserve except for what might be on a ship on its way over, but many of these electronics are flown here. up next a news edge investigation, $100,000 awarded to a local high school is now missing. more on where it may have gone and who may be to blame. check out some of the other stories on our rundown. news edge at 11:00 will be right back. >> this is fox 5 news edge at 11:00. lavish dinners, new office furniture and a decked out tour bus, that's where an investigate said some of the $100,000 award for mckinley tech high school ended up. now the feds are investigating as we learn more about the alleged mishandling of the money. fox 5's maureen umeh has those details. >> reporter: it's a 1993 tour bus leased by mckinley tech high school in 2009 and retrofitted with computers, televisions, high backed chairs and more. it cost the school $35,000. the money according to dcps security investigator eastern stewart coming from a $100,000 aarp ethel percy andrus award in 2008. it was meant to help students teach senior citizens how to use the internet. >> i've never seen a bus out there. >> reporter: tamitha mccray's son lavon graduated last year. she was on the pta and said someone needs to explain what happened to the money. >> the moneys were there for the children. >> reporter: fox 5 learned the bus is primarily used for a program called be the game, a project guided by george mason university in partnership with mckinley tech. according to the video on the company's website, the idea was for students to mentor peers and use game design as a tool for teaching science, technology, engineering and math, but according to stewart the bus was used just five times and only once by mckinley students. his investigation led to the arrest of now former mckinley tech teacher rick kelsey, the director of staff. he was arrested in january and charged with second degree theft, but mccray believes the focus of the investigation should be on mckinley principal david pender. she claims he's had multiple stories about how the award money was used. she said she and many others just want answers and accountability. >> but he needs to be made to explain to the parents where the money was because it was a misappropriation of funds that was given to him that i know came into that school. >> reporter: investigator stewart said that tour bus was returned to the leasing company and was able to return some of the equipment after the entire matter is now being investigated by the u.s. attorney general's office. maureen umeh, fox 5 news. coming up next a big change coming to the internet after a decade long battle. details on the red light district and why the adult entertainment industry is not happy about it. george mason will continue to dance, feldy breaking down their thrilling victory in the sports edge. but first charlie sheen or moammar gadhafi, hey, who's crazier?
