to american service men and women and also trying to reposition ships in the area. meanwhile about 140,000 people within 20 miles of fukushima's plant are being told to seal themselves indoors, even in tokyo, which is 170 miles away there are indications of elevated levels of radiation. austria and france have now started moving their diplomats out of tokyo because of that brian. >> laura, on fox 5 news at 10:00, we had a spokesman from the nuclear energy institute on tonight, he seemed to be ing caution in his tone. how is the white house responding to this latest threat? >>reporter: the white house wants all american diplomats in tokyo to follow japanese guidance, and that is to stay put, a level of caution there as well. some say the radiation is not a threat in tokyo at this point. although, as we have seen the situation is changing by the minute. >> all right, laura, in the meantime, let's talk about the search and rescue efforts here. they continue in the rubble and water left in the wake of the tsunami. officials have confirmed 3300 deaths. they're guessing the tollwill at least triple. rescuers found two survivors today, but stores are running out of necessities. the stock market in japan plunged a second day and also recently opened in the past couple of hours. the edge in the district. a quiet fort washington neighborhood is stunned to learn a car with a dead body in the trunk sat in their neighborhood for weeks. they say the police did nothing. the car was reported missing at the same time a 22 year-old father of two disappeared. it was two days before his scheduled wedding. yesterday, the man's body was found in the trunk of that car. stacey cohan is here with the story. >> the family is fine and spent months searching for that father of two but never dreamed they'd find him like this. folks are wondering why a car that is the focus of a missing person in the district was left to sit on a prince georges county street even after the neighbors called police. >> he would have called he would have came around no. he'd have done something. it's not like maurice. we've been to maryland dc police, we're calling around. we're trying to find him. >> reporter: that's what maurice's binem's family told police in december days after he disappeared along with his mother's black honda accord. then in mid-/swr-pb, january, a resident of this neighborhood called police to complain about an abandoned black honda accord. >> he was dispatched to the location and checked the vehicle but for some reason it did not come back as being stolen. >> reporter: the car was legal legally parked, so the officer left it here. this resident remembers seeing it on her walk through the neighborhood. >> i can remember as late as early february or something seeing a car, you know, but not really paying too much attention. >> reporter: after several more weeks, neighbors called again on march 8. police came and this time the car came up as stolen and was towed, and the family was called to get the car they had reported missing so many months ago. >> the family felt they wanted the police to respond to the scene as well to search the car. it was at that time officers arrived at the tow company, searched the car, and found the victim. >>reporter: by late afternoon, police confirmed the body was that of maurice binem. >> big questions come up to pg, you know, as far as -- i know the neighbors called and reported it as to why , you know nothing was done. that's a huge problem. >> if there was already a missing person report, you know, and you can run the and you can get who the vehicle is registered through, to me it should have like came like that you know, it should have been without hesitation. >> reporter: but prince georges police say it didn't come like that, and in a phone conversation, the family of maurice binem say /práeugs and prince georges and dc police dropped the ball on this investigation, brian. montgomery county investigators now say they have forensic evidence in the attacks of two women in a bethesda store friday night. they're not confirming whether they have dna evidence. jana murray and a coworker were both bound, sexual assault and did badly beaten when two men got into the store after closing friday. murray died. her family came to the store earlier today to read all the notes and see the flowers people have left behind. police have not made any arrests. 14 accused pirates pleaded not guilty in a virginia federal court after a hijacking led to the deaths of four americans. the men are all charged with piracy kidnapping and firearms charges in the february incident on a yacht by an american couple sailing around the world. more charges could come later. officials swarmed the yacht after hearing gun fire. if convicted they face life without parole. should there be a fly zone over libya? that question is on the security council. >> germany, russia china and other nations say not so fast. they're concerned with how to fund the no fly zone. ghadafi is still ordering attacks on his own people hoping to put down revolts against him. it's up to the the worst nuclear disaster in american history, what happened at 3-mile island didn't kill a single person. a report from a presidential commission could not relate a single incident of cancer to the accident. >> the most anybody could be exposed to was about 2 x-rays. >> reporter: neither sandy nagle or her four kids got sick as a result. >> the accident did scare many people. there was no doubt against breast cancer. number 5 older women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer are expected to live just as long as their peers without breast cancer. researchers say doctors should talk to them about risks of being screened. number 4, if you really want to enjoy march madness, don't bet on the game. a researcher from washington university in st. louis found people who make predictions about uncertain events enjoy the games a lot less and even picking the winner doesn't necessarily help you feel better either. number 3 is a head's up if you hear low flying fighter jets over dc over the overnight tonight . >> it really is. i think there will still be a little bit hanging around in the morning as the sun comes up east of the district probably east of 95 and to the bay. you'll have to get the e-mails now brian. overnight showers conveniently timed and you can see the roads look wet in this live shot over northwest washington down toward the cathedral and the windshield wiper going by on cue. there's already been moderate rain. dc is in a bit of a break but more to come too. we'll see that in the overnight hours and that is going to be moving up. you might pick up another quarter inch out of that. when all is said and done we may end up getting close to a half inch in some spots especially where we have heavier down pours, so a little bit more to come and you can see that moving in from the south. over to max and we'll show you that the headline is the overnight showers. our temperature will not get very cold. we'll drop to about 43 degrees, and most of this will be out of here by morning, but could linger east of the district. the next three days tomorrow 62 degrees significantly er than today, which only came in at about pop. maybe not as much sun as you'd like in the morning but we should begin to see breaks of sun in the afternoon. for saint patrick's day, doesn't get a lot better than that 66 degrees, until you get to friday and then it gets even better how about 76 degrees on friday with some spots possibly away from water getting closer to 80 and for bonus, even the weekend is looking nice so we've got lots to talk about that's great in the 5-day forecast and even tonight's showers not as heavy as what we had last week. here's your future cast. you can see some of these bands going on by. i want you to see at 8:00 in the morning, most of this is on the eastern shore. clouds are already breaking up west of 95 so we may see some clearing squise skies even earlier and that trend continues into the afternoon. sometimes the clouds linger a little longer than our future cast wants to show. but the break for saint patrick's day, a mild, nice day, blue skies so a wonderful end of the week. friday looks terrific. a warm day, if not bordering on toasty for a lot of you, and maybe just maybe some of you touch 80 on friday. now, i want you to see that the jet stream brings more good news for the weekend the chilly air will stay up to the north and a bigger warm surge around. this is what we'll cert be seeing on friday with temperatures in the 70s, and then down through the deep south into the 80s. as we head into the weekend, i think it looks good too but i will tell you this, i think it looks cooler sunday as a front comes through. by the way, if the skies clear tomorrow a rare opportunity to see the tiny planet mercury. you want to look to the west as the sun is going down. find the bright planet. that will be hard to miss. that's jupiter and a little bit to the northeast of it will be mercury. what's really cool about this rarely visible planet you usually have to use a telescope is that there's going to be a spacecraft near it for the first time ever. messenger will be in mercury's orbit on saint patrick's day. so check it out yourself and we'll see what the picture looks like from nasa. let's look at the big picture of the 5-day forecast. we've got a nice trend going for saint patrick's, 66 degrees, a couple of showers tomorrow morning. friday 76, 67 on saturday and spring begins sunday with a little bit of a cool down down to 58 degrees but all things considered, a winner of a forecast. we'll find
