george huguely was guilty of first degree murder. >> we all did not think the killing was premeditated. we don't think he went over there with the purpose of killing yeardley love. >> reporter: but he said he did feel that huguely had to pay a price for taking a life. >> we explicitly asked ourselves is he a threat to society and i think there was at least some feeling that as an alcoholic he would be. >> reporter: while they had never met, glomski and his colleagues got to know yeardley love intimately. they got to know her friends. glomski says it was difficult looking at the grisly crime scene photos. >> it was like wow. the eye was completely swollen shut. >> reporter: he said the jurors were caring citizens who took their job seriously and he's proud of the job they did. ian says even though the trial is behind him now the scar from that experience will be there for the rest of his life. >> what about the length of the prison sentence? is glomski happy about that? >> he said the jurors are pretty comfortable with that 26 year term. oddly enough he said he would like to go and visit huguely in jail. he wanted to get some answers to questions that he still has like what was yeardley love really like? does he think the sentence is just? we're not really sure how long huguely will spend in jail. 26 years was the recommendation. the judge could reduce that time. he can't the oil market. they're guessing what the future price of oil will be based on current world events. >> most of it's looking forward and making a bet on whether the price is going to be higher and lower today. >> reporter: some of the reasons oil futures are high now are the uprisings in syria and iran's increased interest in nuclear weapons. >> a lot of it's gussied up. >> reporterproblem the professor says is that often speculators can find any event in the middle east, in the weather or around the world as an excuse to drive up oil futures. >> these things are happening in the market every day, but a lot of it's just a super hype that all of a sudden hits wall street in particular. >> reporter: and since 75% of the price of your gallon of gas comes from the price of oil, it doesn't take long for high crude prices to turn into high gas prices. >> it can literally happen in hours. you're not talking about long, a long time. >> reporter: even though drivers in the u.s. are using -- less gas than ever and supplies of gas are good, there isn't any short supplies in answers as to how long this pain at the pump will last. >> for now americans' hands are tied when it comes one or two spaces around the city where they can park for free, but they're in among other meters. so we've done some inventory of the spaces in the city and found some locations that really should going from our main shopping area down to the waterfront park. it's going to be beautiful. >> reporter: but whenever major roadway projects are being designed, maryland and federal laws require that archeological assessments take place. this, of course, is to make sure that no valuable artifacts get destroyed by the construction. right alongside the public library in bladensburg an archeological dig has confirmed that human beings have been living around here for a very long time. >> looks like native americans have lived here for maybe 10,000 years, but this particular site where we are today it looks like the archeology goes back about 3 to 4,000 years ago. >> reporter: this says archeologist julie schablitsky is an ancient tool fashioned by someone in bladensburg thousands of years ago. >> in this case we found a piece of a tool by someone hammering on it. >> reporter: through the layers of excavation the team on this dig has come up with artifacts from what may be a mid-1800s many hurdles, too many obstacles, four years after the supreme court overturned the district's handgun ban some prospective gun owners in the city say they're getting their handguns registered, but it's still difficult and they're advocating change. [ guns firing ] >> reporter: emily miller once a crime victim now gun owner says despite a supreme court ruling that ordered the district of columbia to make it possible for law abiding citizens to own guns, her path to getting one was littered with delays, unexpected expenses and stonewalling. >> these gun control measures are so counterproductive because they're not stopping the criminals from getting guns. criminals are getting guns easily. they're stopping the law abiding people from getting guns for protection. >> reporter: miller has been writing about her experience for her employer, the washington times. guns must be purchased outside d.c. and only one man is licensed to bring them into the district at a cost of $125. then in order to complete the required firearms training applicants must find a licensed instructor. there are none actually in d.c. you must be finger printed, take a written test, submit your gun for ballistics testing and make multiple visits to the police station and you have to do it during business hours which for most applicants means taking off work multiple times. it took miller nearly five months and almost $500 plus the cost of her gun. d.c. councilman phil mendelson who acknowledges d.c. has a problem will legal guns says he is working to lessen the burden on law abiding citizens. >> we've made it easier to register and the legislation now pending will make it easier to register a firearm. >> reporter: gun rights activists say it's not just d.c. and point to chicago man otis mcdonald who won a supreme rights gun case in 2010 yet after that victory found it to be expensive and very difficult to actually get a gun. >> it's no secret. what's going on is the political leads. they're trying to nullify, reverse and gut the supreme court decision through a blizzard of legislative roadblocks that make the 2nd amendment inaccessible, unaffordable and impossible to experience for the average citizen. >> reporter: washington police say 2,157 guns have been legally registered since the supreme court ordered d.c. to make that possible back in 2008. last year alone police here recovered more than 1,900 illegal guns. in washington shannon bream, fox news. it is make or break time on the campaign trail. mitt romney is fighting to make sure he carries his homestate, but rick santorum has other plans. also caught on camera a woman escapes her car moments before it's hit by a train. we'll be right back. easier than actually going to the bank. mobile check deposit. easier banking. standard at citibank. but we couldn't simply repeat history. we had to create it. introducing the 2013 lexus gs, with leading-edge safety technology, like available blind spot monitor... mitt romney makes final campaign push in michigan he is sticking to an economic message. in his homestate that's one of the hardest hit by the recession he's stressing his plan to create jobs, strengthen the on industry and lower taxes. -- strengthen the auto industry and lower taxes. >> by reducing the taxes on all taxpayers we encourage hard work, risk taking and productivity by allowing americans to keep more of what they earn. >> reporter: romney's one time more than double digit lead in michigan has shrunk. the latest poll does have him up by three points and he continues to stress he's the only challenger equipped to take on the president. >> i think i have the only chance. >> reporter: rick santorum is aggressively disputing that. >> the fact that we're in the race at all in his homestate and being as badly outintended as we have been the past two -- outintended as we have been the past -- outspent as we have been the past two weeks, i think we're doing fine. >> reporter: reelection campaign is also focusing on michigan just releasing an ad criticizing all the presidential gop hopefuls for opposing the bailout of the auto industry that the president pushed for. jennifer davis, fox news. next week's primaries are critical to both mitt romney and rick santorum. earlier i talked to fox news sunday host chris wallace about what losing michigan could mean for romney's campaign. >> they are enormous for mitt romney. i don't mean his campaign would be over if he lost, but it would be a really serious blow. it would ensure that this campaign would go on for months and i think it would increase the calls from republican establishment leaders for another late entry to get in the race, somebody like jeb bush or mitch daniels because romney would show that he was a weak frontrunner and i think there is serious doubts about whether gingrich or santorum can make a race of it against obama. that's if romney loses. there have been some polls in the last couple days that show a tightening. if he goes on to win and particularly if he wins by let's say eight or more points, then i think he resumes his status as a solid, if not overwhelming frontrunner. >> this is a natural transition into who is on the show this weekend. we know you'll have former governor mitt romney on the show. what are some of the questions you're going to talk to him about? >> we'll certainly talk about michigan and the stakes for that and look, if he's having this much trouble beating rick santorum in a republican primary in his homestate as you say, the state he grew up in, the state his father was a three term governor, if he's having that much trouble beating santorum in a republican primary, how could he beat barack obama in a general election in michigan, which is a key swing state? the governors are in town this weekend. we'll talk to mitch daniels, the highly respected governor of indiana. it was only a few months ago some people were saying maybe mitch daniels should run for president. he decided not to, but now there's talk especially if romney should stumble, maybe he should get in the race. we'll talk to mitch daniels about that. >> if you could bring people up to speed if you remember, why did mitch daniels say early on that he did not think he wanted to take part in this? >> well, among other reasons because of his wife and his children. it's a complicated family situation. he and his wife were married for a number of years, had their kids, then divorced. she moved out to california with a fellow and ended up coming back and remarrying him, but i think it obviously sounds like a soap opera. i think there's some concern gee, do we want to parade all that out in a presidential campaign? apparently she didn't like the idea and neither did his daughters. >> i can certainly understand that. sounds like you're going to have a lively show this weekend. i'm looking forward to seeing it at 9:00 on fox 5 sunday morning. he's wind gust and in frederick county we had a 61 mile-per- hour wind gust and all those are measured, so very reliable. breezy down to the south, not quite as gusty for fredericksburg right there, per the wind warning in effect earlier this afternoon and this evening, that has been canceled. so now everybody is just under this wind advisory. we can see wind gusts still up around 40, maybe 45 miles per hour i think and this will run through midnight. overnight tonight these wind gusts will begin to calm down a little. it's still going to be windy, just not quite as gusty. temperature now here in town dropping with the front going through, 50 degrees in the city. farther to the west and northwest temperatures are in the 40s and even all the way across the bay now temperatures are beginning to wind will blow tonight and tomorrow. high pressure is building in from the west. we'll have sunshine tomorrow, but we're going to have some clouds, too. it will be cool, temperatures tomorrow struggling to get up to about 50 degrees as the colder air comes in. winds tomorrow will be between 15 and 25 miles per hour. a lot of snow up to the north in the lakes and some of these streamers will get down to western parts of maryland like they are now. thunderstorms have moved through. drier colder air is coming in. you see a lot of snow here coming through ohio, western sections of pennsylvania and up into new york state. skies are clearing just a bit on top of i-95. now there's still cloud cover back to the northwest. hagerstown, possibly even sees a snowflake and maybe one or two of these little streamers could push as far to the east as frederick county there along i-70, maybe even carroll county. we'll see this through the day tomorrow as well. clouds farther to the north and west tomorrow, more sunshine here in town. you know by now gusty wind overnight tonight out of the west 15 to 30 miles per hour, lows in the upper 30s. sunshine tomorrow morning and 40 work breezy at noon, breezy at 5:00, temperatures tomorrow warming up to the upper 40s. just wanted to show you there will be some. >> i showers, higher elevations have some winter weather advisories in fair to me. i think there's a lot of optimism in camp this year. i think we finally have a talented team that if we stay healthy and continue to get better throughout the year that we can have a chance to make the playoffs and i think we know we have a lot of work to get there, but the work starts here. we need to worry about baseball and not having every other day someone coming up to me and asking me about my contract or how much money i want or how many years i want when we're supposed to be concentrating on baseball. it's just not fair to the other guys that are working hard and supposed to be a group effort. if there's one guy that's continually talking about how much money he's supposed to make or something like that, it's just not fair to the other guys. so tomorrow we'll it appears nothing has changed. after an audit of the employment services three years ago that called the management of the compensation system on the carpet for poor performance and again back in april of last year d.c. inspector general charles willoughby issued a report that concluded that the department of employment services did not provide the department staff with adequate training which
