Reporter Prince Georges County police say the 46year old James Alphonso ward of Capitol Heights turned on a neighbor who had helped him in the past and stabbing her to death in the living room of her home on february 9th. Ward stole a 32inch flat Screen Television from her home that he sold for 40. When the person who purchased the television realized it might belong to geraldine mcentire, he contacted the police and pointed a finger at james ward, who goes by the nickname juju. Ward and mcintyre were neighbors living a block away from one another. We believe that theyre known to each other. We have information to believe she was helping ward by providing him food, and we believe that they did know each other prior to the murder. Major strong said that ward was locked up in the days after the february 9th murder on an outstanding burglary warrant and was only charged with the murder today. Shawn . Thank you. C. , 13,000 civilian defense employees would be furloughed. 533,000 in cuts to education and nearly a million in cuts for educating children can with disabilities, two schools would lose funding and 1,000 students would be denied access to headstart and college aid and 1 million would be tut cut from Environmental Protection budgets. In maryland, about 46,000 civilian defense furloughs, 14. 4 million in Education Funding cuts and nearly 10 million in cuts for special needs students. Thirty schools would lose funding. 800 children denied access to head start, and more than 3 million in Environmental Protection cuts. And in virginia, 90,000 civilian defense employees furloughed, 14 million cuts in education, 14 million cuts in education for children with disabilities, 40 schools would lose funding, 1,000 kids would lose access to headstart and nearly 3 million in Viral Protection would go away. In time, d. C. s metro system is bracing. The Transit System could lose tips of millions and that is if Congress Fails to act sherri ly has more. Reporter for metro, there is that trect loss of federal fundings and funding and the indirect loss that could make sequestration scat sequestration catastrophic and they give metro 150 million a year to help pay for capitol improvements. The agency plans to prove 12 million of that. Downsizing the federal workforce, accounting for 40 of metros riders and about 2 millions day in revenue could cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a day from lost ridership. Ence is starting in 9 fall, they have warned that the price could be steve. If we dont make the investment and that reconstruction of the system, it will affect our ability to maintain the system, that will increase the cost of maintenance for the system and will affect the reliability of the system. The impact on the washington region would be negative and specifically, with respect to the direct impacts and indirect impacts would be bad. It appeared this was the last place that Council Members wanted to be, called into a meeting to punish one of their own. Its not ordinarily constructive to criticize one another, which is why there is a lot of reluctance to do that and why today is an uncomfortable day for the council of the District Of Columbia. It was chairman mendelson who came up with the punishment after seeing the results of three independent investigations suggested that graham broke the citys code of conduct when he agreed to trade boats on two projects. It might be appropriate for a Council Member to publicly express a preference, its not appropriate for a Council Member to attempt to influence behindthescenes who may win a bid. The public has to trust us to do what is right n. This case, to act against use the influence of our office to obtain contracts for friends . And he was trying to wheel and deal. Reporter graham said the investigations into the matter were onesided. He wanted a hearing so his colleagues and the public could hear both sides. And there should be witnesses, cross examination and the opportunity to be heard. Reporter barry had grahams back saying saying his due process was violated before when he was censured in 2010, after an investigation found barry benefited financially from a contract he awarded to his girlfriend at the time. And i have had at least a half dozen Council Members telling me they regret not giving me due process. Reporter in the end, graham received a reprimand and lost control of alcohol regulation in the city. This is not the outcome he had hoped for, but he said hes ready to move on. Its over. An intense manhunt is underway in Northern Virginia for a registered sex offender wanted for questioning in a double murder. The victims, an older couple found murdered in their Fauquier County home. Bob barnard is live with the latest. Bob. Reporter shawn, the suspect is believed to be in this part of fredericksburg, outing of south of Historic Downtown and hes wanted for questioning in a double murder about 50 miles northwest of here in Northern Virginias horse and wine country. This is the crying crime scene, a Rural Property off of bunker hill road in the plains, virginia. The longtime home of a virginia couple found murdered sunday afternoon. And Fauquier County sheriffs officials telling us nelson slack, who was 80, and his wife ethel, 74, suffered trauma to their upper bodies. Well, i have been knowing them for 40 years and they good people, all i can say about it. What do you make of what happened here . I cant believe it. Reporter it doesnt take investigators long to name a person of interest in the case. Hes john wesley jeffries, a 59 yearold registered sex offender in virginia who investigators consider armed and dangerous. He was raised about a quarter of a mile from here, on top of the hill. He must have known this couple . Yeah, oh, yeah. I am sure he knew. I know he did. Reporter the friends grew concerned and deputies went to the house, it was locked and the car was gone. Deputies went in through a window and found the slacks dead. A vehicle that we know to be operated by mr. Jeffries was located about a half mile from the crane scheme. Thereafter, their vehicle was located in the city of fredericksburg in a location that we learn side frequented by mr. Jeffries, so, obviously, we would like to spoke to him about that. Reporter John Jeffreys is wanted in Spotsylvania County for an assault case last month for which he is charged with abduction, strangling, and malicious wounding. Hes on the sex offender remedy for a rape case from 1986, and Fredericksburg Police have strong reason to believe that jeffries is the man who attacked and robbed a 67year old man here along morningside drive saturday night. The victim finding back with his portable oxygen tank, which police say may have cut jeffries face. Investigators with the spotsylvania and faulkier sheriffs offices are here working with Virginia State police trying to find jeffries and were told that they have a lot of tips but nothing worked out so far. And thank you for the update tonight. Tacoma park police say a double shooting that left two men dead was a murder soar suicide and how was a teacher and nerved served in the marines. They believe that that trauma combined with difficulties in his personal life, may have caused him to shoot his friend and then himself. A marylanden toager has been sentenced to teenager has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a shooting in Baltimore County last year. The 15yearold robert gladden fired a shot gun of perry hall high on the first dave school. A student with down syndrome was hit in the back and survived. Gladden pleaded guilty to attempted firstdegree murder. The judge gave him a life sentence with all but 35 years suspended. We continue to follow breaking news out of Prince Georges County. A mistrial declared at the trial of the suspect in the so called motherdaughter murders. And fox 5s karen gray houston has the latest for us. Reporter thats right, there make a mistrial declared but he will be back in court for this double murder. A date for the retrial has been scheduled already for october 15th of this year. Scott is accused of killing 42 yearold dolores dewit and her 20yearold daughter ebony. Their charred bodies were found in the trunk in largo in 2009. Police and prosecutors say that jason scott was a very bad man, a professional criminal who not only killed dolores and emily dewit, but had staged as many as 50 burglaries, nine Home Invasion robberies, car jacking and a laundry list of crimes that hes been convicted of. Now, joining me now to talk about the mistrial in this case is Prince Georges County states attorney angela alsobrocks. Thank you for joining us tonight. Thank you. And can you talk about the mistrial. There was testimony that referenced more than one Home Invasion. The judge said we were to talk about only one and there were four burglaries we were able to discuss. One of the witnesses in the case, i talked about, more than one Home Invasion and the judge decided it was probably additional and could be to the jury and decided a mistrial was appropriate. We, of course, respect the courtssition and decision and well be ready to retry the case in october. I am sure this is tough for the families. They were sitting in the courtroom and to he is. How are they taking it . Its disappointing and that i have be about through an ordeal i can only try to imagine. They were anxious to bring justice and theyre disappointed, but we have talked to them and everybody is ready to g. Well do justice for the family and be back in october. And jason scott is convicted of 100 years. Uhhuh. Why is it important to go through this . We like bringing justice two. Women in our community were killed, and were determined that we will hold him accountable for their murders, even here and youre right. Hes not a risk to this community any longer, hes incarcerated and sentenced an 6es of 100 years but well do justice for the ladies.
