moving fairly unscheduled, despite the disruption. >> and thank you, maureen umeh. police arrested three people in a string of armed robberies. audrey barnes has more. >> reporter: detectives have been looking for the suspect since last weekend when there was a huge spike and some pretty serious robberies throughout the county. and the same suspect hit a number of commercial establishments, including a shell gas station in bowie, a mcdonald's and 7-eleven in capital heights. the suspect would park behind the business and beside it and they would burst in and rob the place. detectives say surveillance tape and tips from the public led them to three arrests today. the police are happy to have them off of the street before someone was seriously hurt. we learned the names of the three in custody. 24-year-old tony lee waters, 24- year-old todd wheeler and 20- year-old cunningham. they're arrested and charged in connection with the mcdonald's heist. detectives say they investigating the possibility that the suspects may have been involved in some other robberies, shawn? >> thank you. hopefully we'll have more at 10. >> the supreme court justice steven briar targeted by burglars the second time in three months. authorities say his georgetown home was robbed earlier this month. the thieves got away with cutlery and candlesticks worth $3,500. no one was home at the time unlike in february at briar's vacation home in nieves. briar and his houseguest were threatened by a machete -- with a machete by a gardener who took $1,000. day one in the john edwards' corruption trial. jurors are asking for office supplies and eight specific exhibits to help with the discussion. they have to decide if he used the money from wealthy donors to hide his mistress. he denies he broke any campaign finance laws. leaders from the most eight powerful nations in the world are at camp david for the g-8 summit, the largest gathering of leaders in maryland. they began arriving early this morning for the summit. the g-8 discussions will touch on a variety of world issues but the global economic concerns becaused -- caused by the ongoing euro crisis will take precedent. the president announced $3 billion in some private sector pledges to fight hunger in africa and he will ask other leaders to make similar efforts. >> the wealthiest nation on earth, i believe, the united states has a moral obligation to lead the fight against hugger and malnutrition and to partner with others. >> and when the g-8 ends on saturday, he will go to chicago for the meeting. protestors are gathering in thurmont, maryland, just outside of the closed presidential retreat. tom fitzgerald is there and is the up to ready? >> reporter: from the looks of it from what we have seen, they have enough police to handle anything. the question remains, though, are they going to be needed? while a small army of media and law enforcement descended on the town of thurmont, they joind by a small number of 1 dozen protestors. thurmont, maryland, population, 6,000 this weekend, that number is going up. ahead of the g-8 economic sum it, this small town in western maryland is as close as anyone who is not invited to camp david will get to camp david. >> we're used to presidential visits. they occur all of the time. and they're up the road here. >> reporter: corporal jason west said that beefed up federal, state, and local law enforcement are ready for any protests. >> and there might be more than this. there may be no more that she up. and regardless, we're prepared for whatever situation arises. >> reporter: they have left the locals unimpressed. >> and expecting my business. >> reporter: she said just the idea of occupy protestors in thurmont is driving away customers. >> and keeping the people down. >> reporter: the protestors will say thumb opt is where they should be n. their view, the g-8 summit represents how economic decisions on wall street will affect main streets like this one. >> and okay, not all will talk to you. >> the mainstream and i especially don't give interviews to news. >> others are sounding off on everything from food safety to global economics. >> i'm against the idea that all 7 billion of us on this planet are being represented by an economic decision made by eight people. >> do you have a bipartisan revolt among patriots who recognize what is happening right now. >> reporter: overall, thermont's not expecting any trouble from the protestors. >> this is a quiet town and not a lot happens here. i couldn't imagine something terrible happens because of this. >> and -- >> and protestors in thurmont would swear they have been polite. >> people give -- and something they don't understand sometimes. and, you know, we're here to make -- i guess we do stand out. >> reporter: what remains to be seen is if the g-8 leaders on that mountain will get along as well as the folks here in thurmont. from what we saw today, the dozen or so protestors are composed of the occupy baltimore protests. we didn't run into any of the occupy d.c. members here in thurmont today. nobody else, the police say they going to maintain the position of officers that they have spread out throughout the area and they'll be ready with whatever tomorrow brings. >> thank you. and today, word from maryland's highest court. the state will recognize divorce for same-sex marriages. maryland law does not currently allow same-sex couples to marry, but the court of appeals said it would be unprecedented for the state not to recognize gay marriage as performed elsewhere and two women filed suit after they were denied a divorce in maryland. the judge said the marriage was not valid in the statement, however, the maryland court of appeals will not reconsider a ruling that barred police from collecting dna samples from people arrested for committing violent crimes. and the state attorney general can will argue. it violates constitutional protection from unreasonable search and seizure. the judge in the clemons' trial is giving a time limit to speed things up. the judge imposed a 90-minute limit for each side. they will take effect once the key witness leaves the stand. mcnamee testified he injected clemons with steroids and human growth hormone. clemons is accused of lying under oath to congress about using performance-enhancing drugs. >>. and the big story we're following tonight, new evidence in a deadly armed robbery at a corner market in northeast d.c. and that is some surveillance video. this is december of 2010, and they're the gunmen who stormed the store killing the owner. bob barnard has more on this. >> reporter: 17 months to the day later, they have not been able to identify the two men in the store video. the detectives are asking us to show the brief video to you hoping that would get the killers off of the street. newton food mart is still opened here in the heart of brooklyn and with some new owners. the family sold the place and moved out of the area not long after the murder. >> and that is understandably so. they feel so victimized and -- to come back. >> reporter: they first entered the corner market around 6:40 p.m. on saturday, december 18th, 2010. two men wearing hooded sweatshirts, at least one armed with a handgun. and this surveillance video is clear and jerk. the clip lasting 19 secs, ending with the gunman confronting mrs. patel behind the counter. >> at that point, the owner of the store, mr. patel, comes out from the back and for no apparent reason that we can tell, it appears he's cooperating and is shot. >> reporter: raj patel was 46 years old, lived in bowy with his wife and son. >> it was painful. sad situation. >> and a nice guy. we miss hip. >> reporter: at one point, you can see one of the gunmen's face. again, bob alder. >> a year and a half later, the case is still open and we're hopeful that someone might recognize the subject's face that is on the video and perhaps the clothing. >> reporter: in this unspeakable horrible tragedy. >> reporter: three days after the murder, dozens turned out for a candlelight vigil. the patel's son chris overcome with emotion surroundy by affection. >> it was, it was so sad, you know, when that happens to one of us, really, it happens to all of us and that is the big story here. and when one business owner is victimized, all of us are afraid. >> reporter: and after the murder, police released still pictures from the video and no good leads came of it. investigators are hoping something about the way the two gunmen moved and acted that night caught on camera and will be enough to give someone a call with a name or two, laura. >> and thank you, bob. it's one of the most anticipated facebook's ipo. the stock closed at $38.23, a gain of 23-cents on the first day as a public company. as fox business network correspondent dennis neil reports, things got off to a slow start. >> reporter: at long last, facebook went public today. but did it disappoint? facebook's founder and ceo mark zuckerburg ringing the nasdaq opening bell in menlo park, california, this morning, created inside a harvard dorm room and facebook connects a billion people around the world. it's valued north of $100 billion. the company hopes to grow even more. >> i think people need to take a deep breathe and understand they want to buy it and own a piece of it. that is great. don't go in there making foolish decisions based oh, motion. >> reporter: several market experts have predicted facebook would double in price on its initial ipo. the shares of the number one social networking website opening up 11% higher and falling a bit. with several hundred million shares trading hands and some advisors suggest investors have to hold off before accepting this new friend request. >> you have to analyze each of the companies and each of the businesses, of course, separately and independently. even if you look at facebook's prospects as a social media company, you might do a comparison, say, to recent ipos in the social media face. >> reporter: chances are facebook disappointed a lot of people today. there is an upside, though. at least the stock price didn't tripple and more investors can decide whether they want to get in. dennis neil, fox business. >> anderson was the director of financial planning and anderson, well, it happened. facebook opened up at $38 a share. how did that first day of trading go and where do you think it will be next week? >> i don't know where it's going to be next week. today was jumpy and tough for the folks at facebook. and there was so much demand for this company and retail demand. people that don't invest in stocks wanted to own a piece of this company and they just flooded nasdaq with all of the orders and they couldn't handle it. >> i heard like 100 shares and some really tiny amount of time. it was really, really fast. >> there was so much volume i'm traded hands today they could not keep up and that is a testament to how popular facebook is. i hope that a lot of people didn't get themselves burned and it doesn't seem like they did from the perspective that the stock didn't triple in value today, didn't go up 300%. it went up and then it went back down and closed where they thought it was valued at. >> i guess you answered my next question, you know, for months now, we have been hearing all of the hype. did it live up to the highway patrol? and sound -- up to the hype? sounds like it fizzled out in the middle. >> it did. i don't think anyone that brought this, anyone involved in the underwriting process is going to be necessarily thrilled with the way this stock performed. they would have loved to have seen it go from 38 to 68 today and that didn't happen. and that is probably a good thing. it allows people to take a step back and look at this and take a step back and look at the investment philosophy in general to say is this what i should be doing or should i take a more diversified approach rather than getting wrapped up in the hype. i think it's great that people didn't get wrapped up. >> let me ask you, do you think this is a good stock investment for the average american? maybe someone who, you know, does this online themselves? or someone who is not really experienced in this world? >> i would say this is not a place to put a lot of money if you're not familiar with what you deal -- you're dealing with and as an individual investor, don't have the access to the information of the people selling the stock had access do and you're in a situation whereway competing on an uneven playing feel. rather than taking the bait, spread your money around, invest in a good high-quality, diverseddified fund and be happy. >> i like that idea. be happy. and thank you for the -- thank you for the advice. thank you for coming in. >> thank you. and facebook stock makes bono the richest musician in the world stealing that title from paul mccartney. facebook's epo will substantially bost his wealth. the you2 front -- u2 frontman's firm bought facebook shares for $90 million three years ago and they're valued at $1.5 billion. and more of you are using smartphones and tablets to connect to the internet. bad news for hewlett-packard employees. hp is set to cut as many as 30,000 jobs because of reduced demand for personal computers. no comment from hp. the company provided a video of their products. meanwhile, customers outside of pepco's meeting in northwest d.c. today. the group claims that 50 shareholders were blocked from attending the meeting. the numbers intended to challenge pepco's ceo pay raise. the $499 million tax refund and the request for a $42 million rate hike. >> no! >> and some money. they closed the door on my face. >> pepco let all of the shareholders know about the documentation they needed and accommodated several times the number of people who would attend and seated as many people as possible. another absolutely gorgeous day today. i hope we can keep this into the weekend. >> and this is a glorious day. how late are we expecting the warm temperatures into the evening? >> a great evening and that is nice into the mid-70s. >> nice. >> and some of us in the upper 70s. down south, there is some more clouds and the temperatures are cooler there and that is going to be a great evening. and there is a coastal area of low pressure to the south of us and look at the rain offshore of north carolina and this is going to be tricky and looking like tomorrow and that is pretty good. on sunday, we don't have a good clarification on our models and exactly what is going happen and that does look like we'll have showers. and that is high, the mid-level clouds and that is block something sunshine. we're going to have plenty of it this evening. 75 in the city and so far, i have seen 76 for a high on the hour. look at fredericksburg and that is normally warmer than us. same for culpeper and to the north-northwest, frederick and sunshine. hagerstown, 74; pretty nice at 7:00 and 72 in the city. comfortable at $9.66. by 11:00, lower 60s in town and upper 50s or so in the suburbs and we'll talk more about the weekend forecast. it doesn't look bad and we'll have to make a discussion on sunday. what may or may explosion of gun fire during a murder investigation in louisville, kentucky. it started with two men shot to death on the streets. less than a block away, police heard two shots. two women were fighting over the incident and one shot the other. the relative said the victim was trying to check on the father of her child. >> she came to see what was going on and the next thing you know, she's laying down with a sheet over her body. >> officers say the woman with a gun pointed it at police so they shot her and show is no in the hospital. one of the men killed at the first scene and the woman killed in the sec scene have a child -- second scene have a child together and that baby lost both parents. >> a convicted felon is charged with murdering two people in some random highway shootings in mississippi. james wiley is charged with kidnapping and rape. on may 8th, the police found a man dead in his pickup and three days later, a woman was found shot to death in her car. he posed as a police officer and arrested after a woman said he attacked her. and the sheriff said the gun matched the shell casings at the shooting scene. cameras are coming to crosswalks. wait until [ male announcer ] knowing your customers is important to any successful business. which is why at wells fargo, we work with you to get to know the unique aspects of your business. we can recommend financial solutions that can work for you that have helped millions of business owners save time, reduce expenses, and maximize cash flow. as the number one small business lender for nine years running... we're with you when you need us. so you can be there for your customers. wells fargo. together we'll go far. . more red light and speed cameras are coming to d.c. and also four cameras to make sure you stop for crosswalks. the d.c. police are in the process of bringing in cameras to stop drivers who fail to stop for a pedestrian. the cost of one of those may surprise you. >> reporter: we talked to many pedestrians who support the cameras because few drivers, they say, stop for crosswalks and those cameras would basically snap a picture with a person trying to cross. the fine, though, is steep. $250. >> reporter: the law is clear in d.c. if there is a crosswalk, the pedestrian has the right-of-way. the law is often ilght norred. those are good examples. first, watch as the woman crosses and an suv and metro bus don't bother to stop. a short time later, it happens again. this man enters the crosswalk and cars keep moving. >> i did read the sign that said it was d.c. law that they were supposed to stop. that encouraged me to go across. i wondered how to get across with all of the traffic going by. >> >> that is behavior that is dangerous that we want to stop. >> reporter: many d.c. leaders support the enforcement of the crosswalk law but say before cameras are put in place, the amount of the sign needs to be reviewed. >> when people get hit with the fine at $250, that is quite a impact. >> and the more and more we use cameras to ticket people, the more we need to reduce the fines. >> reporter: we're told they plan to reduce eight cameras for the crosswalk enforcement. the technology will be mobile so the cameras could pop up anywhere across the district. a good idea, most agree. the only issue, the cost of the fine. >> you cross the line and the count catches you. and for that is that is outrageous and that is not necessary. >> and he should be fired. at least $500. >> reporter: council member phil mendelson's office said that it's been given a conservative estimate of $175,000 that is if each camera issues five tickets a day. from what we saw, shawn, they going to snap many more pictures than that. >> and it's hard to cross the street sometimes, especially around the station. thank you, matt. >> reporter: for sure. today is national bike to work day. nearly 13,000 commuters, including my husband, swapped their gas pedals for bike pedals in the d.c. region and organizers say more people participated. the gom is -- goal is to promote bicycling as a low-cost commuting alternative. last year, they attracted 11,000 cyclists. if you plan to ride metro, be prepared for delays. track work on the orange, red, and green lines begin at 10 and they will replace trains between east and westphal's church and some will be single tracking. metro said add an extra 20 minutes to your commute and fox 5 is always monitoring metro. and watching the sky this weekend. the blue angels, golden knights? they're part of the 2012 joint service open house and air show. andrews air force base posting the air show on saturday and sunday. we got a preview of what to expect. >> reporter: you're going to see a lot of marine corps aviation. you will see aircraft and helicopters from every service. this base is a total force base. we have active duty, reserve and enjoy soldier, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guard. >> to get to the show, you have to take a shuttle bus from fed ex field parking and inbound buses will stop running at 1:00 p.m. >> i have never been and i always hear great things about it. >> and that is -- the blue angels are fun to watch. and this is a perfect weekend, too, with the weather. >> and. coming up tonight, an animal expert gets a little too close to an alligator. and that is caught on camera. another person in the south battling a flesh-eating disease. the details are next on this one. one.  a few more setbacks for the georgia grad student battling the flesh-eating bacteria. relatives say when amy copeland was told she needed more surgery to remove her hands and foot, she mouthed let's do it. the doctors amputated most of her left leg and show will likely lose her fingers, too. show contracted the rare infection called necrotizing fascitis after cutting her leg on a zipline two weeks ago. and another case in the south. a georgia landscaper said he got sick within hours of being injured on the job. bobby vaughn has overgone several surgeries ass infection spread from his abdomen to his back. vaughn made progress and is not out of the woods yet. >> reporter: an agonizing time for amanda and her two children. the ex-husband has been hospitalized for two weeks with a flesh-eating bacteria and is in the same augusta hospital as amy copeland, the despresident lay -- desperately ill university of college student. >> he's worried. >> reporter: the cartersville landscaper was injured at work when he fell from a tree two weeks ago today and suffered a cut to his side. >> he got a cut on his side and took him to the hospital. my son said he was throwing up and i took him to the hospital. go and they treated him and he chose to leave and it spread the next morning. >> reporter: he spent a week at the medical center and the infection spread from his abdomen to his back. he was eventually transferred to doctor's hospital in augusta. >> it was kind of scary at first because we, for some reason, it was like every two day when is they would go to check if it was spreading still and finally, that is when they support him to augusta. >> reporter: vaughn has had five surgeries. the doctors removed nearly two pounds of infected tissue. the first time ever, the cdc is recommending all baby boomers get tested for hepatitis c. everyone born between 1945 and 1965. baby boomers account for more than three quarter of all americans living with the virus. it can take decades to get the virus and many don't know they have it. and it can lead to more baby boomers getting treatment and saving lives. >> a maryland family gets a surprise of the lifetime. dr. oz makes a house call they were not expecting as they try to jump start the healthy eating lifestyle. and robert griffin iii takes his talents to late night tv. gary, can you beat that? >> and i'm back up 15. >> oh,. >> and that -- and it came like you said quick, you know, and this is january through present. so, it's just freighting and when i get frust -- it's just frustrating and when i get frustrating, you see what is on the table? and i don't care,. >> i care. >> reporter: she doesn't want her kids to follow in her footsteps. >> and i think you yo-yo back because you like to come -- about you're on a diet. i don't want anyone to think diet is boring. get rid of that. we're making a lifestyle change. chef mike is on making a meal, the kids are playing with it. you have the chef here. >> and this is not boring. >> reporter: he knows italian- american cuisine and said it's about fresh ingredients. >> and that is not the only thing to flavor. spice. >> fresh herb, citruses, vinegars. so many ways to build flavor into food and it doesn't have to be butter or bacon fat or things like that. >> reporter: and careful with the pasta. >> watch the pasta. don't go with the regular classic straight forward flour pasta. use whole wheat. there is corn pasta with no gluten at all and that is good. >> reporter: traditions run deep, but the desosa's are learning they don't have to sacrifice all of the italian american food they love to see a difference. >> you want to lose 200 calories worth of food a day and that is one less of the meat balls. if you do that every day, you will lose 12-pounds in a year. over two years, that is 24 pounds. >> it's hard to give up the fat with the pasta. request i have a slice? >> i would push you away from bread big time. >> even multigrain? >> it's -- and that is bread, bread. if you're going have bread, very little of it. on whole grain and i would go -- with a little olive oil and i would have that 15 or 20 minutes before the meal started so you sit down to have this, you would have a little food in your stomach and turns down the hormone that makes your stomach growl. you are not famished, you sit back and enjoy the food. >> and enjoying it is key. so, what is the verdict? >> well, that was a key sign. what do you think so far? >> i can change. >> you think this is going to help? you think you can do it? >> i think so if we all try, i think so. >> reporter: in columbia, maryland, lauren demarco, fox 5 news. >> and i'm hungry and inspired. we wish you guys the best. and so we know robert griffin iii is a great quarterback, right? this is what it looks like here to the south. we have the high clouds and some have come up over the city. can you see temperaturewise, monasses, 70 degrees; fredericksburg, 73; culpeper, 73 and it's cooler because of the clouds and that is what is going to happen tomorrow and on sunday, we'll see more in the way of cloud cover for everybody. at least that is a good on forecast right now and that might mean the temperatures are not quite 80 degrees on sunday. still pretty nice, and we're going to stay dry this weekend. good at 7:00 this evening, looking great and if you have plans outdoors, that is great. if you don't have plans, try to get some. tonight's good, comfortable at 9:00 and cooler at 11. and we'll be into the 50s in the suburbs and here in up to, we're going celt down to 54 degrees -- settle down to 54 degrees for an overnight low. upper 40s in the suburbs, too, and that is generally north and west and clearer. i think we're going to have more clouds again down to the south. the southern areas, the temperatures might stay up a bit. maybe mid- to a couple of places, upper 50s with the cloudiness. winds will be northeast at 5 to 10 miles an hour and as long as we have the northeasterly winds this weekend, the temperatures will not be able to get much higher than about 80 degrees. with the full sunshine and this is the part of the storm system to the south and look at all of the rain offshore in north carolina. and from that, the clouds are kind of coming up from the north and we have a little bit of cloudiness off of the big storms into western sections of tennessee and that is looking like this storm will lift farther to the north and more to the east. what is going to be so close to us, we at least have to think we're going to get clouds from it. again, that is going to be about all. we have the cloud this evening that will carry on through the evening hours and overnight, to and we will be warm tomorrow. the high pressure is noseying in and that with the system to the south is giving us the northeasterly winds. again, we have to kind of watch the storm. some of the guidance is suggesting that maybe this will lift in here by sunday and try to bring a few showers to the shore. that is possible and certainly if that happens, we'll have more in the a of -- way of cloud cover on sunday. tomorrow morning, we should have a lot of sunshine, 60 degrees and warm at noon, 74 and we're going to top out tomorrow around 80. we'll have some clouds and again, farther to the south and i think it will be cooler. probably mid- to upper 70s and cooler for us on sunday and only a degree or so and more clouds on sunday. scattered showers on monday and with that 76. scattered showers and a few thunderstorms on tuesday, 78, and on wednesday, again, we continue with the shower and thunderstorm to about 79 degrees or so and some more clouds on sunday and staying dry and some hovering around 80 degrees. >> wow. beautiful. >> yeah. >> and like it. >> thank you, gary. donna summers' family said the late singer will be remembered with a private funeral and burial. a spokesman said they're overwhelmed and so appreciate the outreach from her fans and tmz is reporting the funeral is next wednesday in nashville. summer died thursday morning from lung cancer. she was 63 years ole. friends from her hometown of boston are remembering her for her talent and loyalty. >> donna always knew that she was going to be successful. all knew and her, i believe her parents knew. all remembered her church. all remembered her church. >> and did you know she had a gift?
