And there is a lot going into reopening the airports after a storm like this and before the snow came, they pulled all the equipment off of the runways and to have to bring that back out and there are the flight crews that have to make their ways back to the airport and there are a lot of folks waiting. We spoke with one woman who arrived at Dulles International yesterday. She was supposed to be there for a layover on her way home to canada. Instead, her flight was cancelled. She ended up having to spend the night here in d. C. And we had to give ourselves a hotel and find our way around washington, change airports. We came from that other airport. We learned the tricks of taking the buses and the train. Were disappointed and spent a nice day here in washington. Reporter that woman and her husband arrived ited to find out their flight was delayed. I believe they were able to get on to a flight tonight to head back to canada. Good news for them, of course, and many people are still remaining stranded and according to the traffic website, 5,000 flights were cancelled or delayed due to the storm and as everyone waits, the best thing can you do is to continue to monitor your particular airline and that is the latest here. The other big story, a 14 yearold boy and his seven monthold sister left home alone in Silver Spring and tonight, the baby girl is dead and police are charge ising her brother as an adult with first degree murder. Audrey barnes has the latest. Reporter 14yearold jonathan is charged as an adult with firstdegree murder in the death of his sevenmonthold sister larissa. And police say the 31yearold left her 14yearold son in charge of her unfant daughter when she went to work at 1030 tombd this night. When she tried to wake the 7 yearold the next morning to feed her, she was unresponsive. Someone called paramedics and police. Before we could get there, the child was transported by fire rescue to Holy Cross Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An investigation determined she did have injuries on her body and detectives and medical personnel determined that she could not have inflicted the injuries on herself. Reporter and investigators question the childs 49year old brother, the last person to see her alive. He admitted that he had beaten her and that also then also put his hands over her, over her nose and mouth when she began to cry. Reporter hes charged as an adult with firstdegree murder and because hes being charged, does that mean that investigators believe this is intensional . Yes. Reporter neighbors are stunned. Unbelievable. Reporter this woman said she knew miss yanez worked the overnight shift, but she was not aware of her child care arrangements. I know her and i dont know what happened with the baby and with some i cans. I dont know. Reporter no answer at the home rocked by a double tragedy. Its not just the death of the sevenmonthold girl, but also if the allegations are carried out, they lost their 14 yearold son for a time, anyway. Reporter the boy will make his first appearance in court on monday and is being held without bond. Back to you. In maryland tonight, a string of armed robberies on an offcampus in the university of maryland has people there on alert and no one was injured. Police believe that handguns were used in three of the incidents. John henrehan has more. Reporter the recent spate of robberies occurred on and off the university of Maryland College park campus. The most recent happened off campus. According to the police, three people were walking on lakeland road east of rhode island avenue when they crossed paths with two men. The two men came up behind them, each of the two men pulled out a handgun. They robbed two of the three victims. Reporter police say the suspect fled on foot heading eastbound on lakeland running forward the toward the train tracks. County and Campus Police flooded into the area but they were unable to find the two suspects. On thursday night, a female victim was robbed on campus. It happened in parking lot kk, which is behind the Chemical Nuclear engineering building. Police say a man wearing baggy jeans, a darkhooded sweatshirt and a Face Covering pulled out a handgun and took cash, gift cards, and other personal property from the woman before fleeing down paint branch drive, again, because of the gun being involved. Both county and Campus Police searched the area, including with a canine i k9 unit and the suspect got away. Campus police are currently reviewing the video gathered nearby and have not released pictures to the media. Another Armed Robbery happened in the early hours of Tuesday Morning along paint Branch Parkway just off campus. A female student walking from the metro stop toward route 1 was accosted by a masked gunman who demanded and got money from the victim. The suspect was last seen walking toward the metro. There was an offcampus robbery attempt on sunday, january 27th, around 1 in the afternoon. The university of maryland student was accosted in the common area inside the huge varsity apartment complex on route 1. He was accosted by a man displaying what appeared to be a fake handgun. Police say the assailant was trying to get the students computer but the student fought back and another person came in and unter vined, forcing the a is ail assailant to flee. The county Police Arrested two men from college park who have confessed to the crime.
