spree, suspected in three armed home invasions and two rapes in four days n. montgomery and prince georges county. thanks to tips from the public, ray was also a convicted sex offender and is off of the streets and behind bars again. police say the crime spree started here on mcman road in wheaton. the suspect steals a woman's wallet and her car after approaching her at gun point in her garage. the next day detectives say he ties up a home owner and her son and sexually assaults the housekeeper at this house on barden road. two days later, he strikes again on berkeley street in temple hill. the police were able to identify kevin ray of fort washington and track him to north carolina. after he's caught on tape using a stolen victim's credit card. >> and he resisted and was transported to a local jail there. >> and kevin ray is facing charges in all three home invasions and two sexual assaults. he'll be extra dutied to maryland in a few days. -- extradited to maryland in a few days. >> d.c. detectives are looking for a killer after a shooting in southeast last night. >> and it happened after 11 in the 4600 block of benning road. the 19-year-old was shot several times and died at a hospital. there is a reward for whoever leads investigators to the killer and can you remain anonymous. and plenty of visitors are in town visiting the now martin luther king jr. memorial for the holiday. >> and there is some rsy still part of it will be changed. here's more. >> reporter: on a brisk january day, there were crowds at new martin luther king jr. memorial in washington, d.c. the statue of the frame, a large part consists of quoting as from dr. king's writings, sermons, and speeches. each side of the statue also contained an inscription. no controversy on this one which sort of describes the design the memorial and this inscription, i was a drum major for justice, peace, and righteousness is not a direct quote but a paraphrase in which he appears to be responding to having been dericively called a drum major. and this is the original quote from dr. king. yes, if you want to say that i was a drum major, say that i was a drum major for justice. say that i was a drum major for peace. i was a drum major for righteousness and all of the other shallow things will not matter. critics, including maya angelou, believed the paraphrase -- paraphrase is inaccurate and ken salazar ordered the inscription changeed. we read the original quote to them. earths were quite aware of the dispute. this man brought a -- man boughtprintout for his vision. some said the brief paraphrased inscription is fine. >> he was a drum major for justice. and i think this is what he was. today this man have impact their entire world. >> the artist renditions of things, are you rejected? you know, and that is all in the eyes of the beholder. >> reporter: after hearing the full original quote, more visitors told us they want the short inscriptions changeed. >> with him fully, not part of it but everything he said. >> and what is printed up there means the opposite. >> should they change it? she had toes like a sloth. really? ew. when it's on your nd, it's on ebay. really? ew. . >> well, some colder weather settling in. the temperatures in the 20s and low 30s. 31 at national airport; 27 at gaithersburg; 29 at baltimore; 28, dulles and 23 degrees at hagerstown. some clouds as well across the area and they'll be short- lived. we have a ridge of high pressure building in. the jet stream is allowing the colder air to settle in and those -- there is that disturbance to the south of us and producing snow across the southern portion of west virginia and north carolina tonight. but as far as areas to the north are concerned, we'll see the ridge of high pressure building in as we head through into tomorrow and that will set us up for plenty of sunshine tomorrow, a really bright day and it will definitely be a chilly one as the temperatures will be into the 30s. by tuesday, a disturbance is heading in and this will have wet weather monday night. tuesday, the overnight hours and seeing it's settling into the course of the day through the overnight and a bit of a break here and there and can expect a quarter of an inch of rainfall. on the back side, colder air and we have to watch the temperatures to see if we'll see flurries. in the meantime, chilly and sunny tomorrow. by midday, about 32 degrees and for martin luther king day, expect to see somepliant conditions, the temperatures into the low 40s. the five-day forecast, and not bad for tomorrow. the wet weather moves in on tuesday and we warm up. >> back to you maureen and will. >> and from that workout?
