Leaders delayed the vote to repeal and replace obamacare. They will continue the debating and arm twisting tonight with the hopes of passing this bill tomorrow morning. President trump, though, is planning to keep the pressure on his party. Obamacare has inflicted great pain on american truckers, many of you were forced to buy Health Insurance on the obamacare exchanges, you experienced a crippling rise in premiums and a dramatic loss in options. Only politics. I was reading his pin because he mentioned truckers. Today the president was at the white house welcoming an Industry Group of truckers. He was in a truck outside honked the horn and i was looking the the video there and so it says i heart trucks. Thats why he was wearing the pin. Now you know. Let me fix my microphone in thank you jim. There you go. Back to the Healthcare Plan now. All right. Right now there are too many gop lawmakers who still oppose this bill as it stands. Gop house members are expected to meet with Party Leaders tonight told. The white house says this new vote will take place sometime tomorrow morning. Today was going to be symbolic though because this was the anniversary of when the Affordable Care act was first passed. Lets bring in brent wilks on skype tonight. How are you tonight . Doing be fantastic. How are you. Were well. So, what is it that your group has an interest in this healthcare debate about . Well, we are interested in making sure that the 6 million latinos that were able to receive coverage under the Affordable Care act are able to continue to have their coverage. The bill that theyre voting on tonight or were planning to vote on tonight actually would many of them would lose, in fact 24 million americans it was estimated would lose coverage under the republican Healthcare Plan. Thats something that concerns our organization and because of that were opposed to the bill. When you compare the two bills side by side are there any up sides on this new bill that you saw at all . I think the upsides are primarily to bette americans. Theyll be getting a tax cut. Saving some money but, you know, in our opinion, the economy already is rewarding those individuals much more than the rest of the country and so there really isnt much upside especially when you look at the fact that healthcare premiums are going to rise. People are going to lose coverage. On to on top of that, the typesf guarantees that it wouldnt cover maternal care for example or preexisting conditions and Wellness Care and preventive care. All of those things are going to be going away and well get a really bear bones plan that doesnt cover much and for a higher Sticker Price which doesnt make a lot of sense. Brent in the initial plan in the Affordable Care act you had the subsidies. Under the republican plan they would do away with those instead offering tax credits but it seems like theres still something on the table though. Youre saying thats not enough. Exactly. I think the problem with the tax credits is y be making a certain amount of income for those to be viable to you. That advantages well off americans so, yes, if youre making a lot of money you coul use a tax credit thats going to save you a lot of money. If youre in the paying much tax now, tax credit is not going to be useful to you and you cant buy insurance with a tax credit. So the problem is at the end of the day 24 million americans are going to Loss Coverage under this plan and its not going to be as good as what we currently have and the only people that benefit are well off individuals folks who have already been rewarded handsomely by this economy its time we get back to the whole intention to get towards universal coverage and the Affordable Care act has gotten us part of the way there and we still have ally lot to go even on and that front. Well see what happens tomorrow morning, when and if they vote. Brent thanks for joining us. We appreciate your perspective. The question a lot of people have tonight about the bill is, okay, the republicans have said for seven years going to get in office and were going to repeal and replace. They got to the finish line. Thats something were going to get answered hopefully over the next couple days. Its going to be interesting too because President Trump has told them if you dont get in line with this, you are risking losing your job coming up in the next midterm elections. Well see. Well see what happens. Lets move on tonight. We have new details in the deadly london terror attack. Isis says the attacker was a soldier of the Islamic State state. It comes nearly 24 hours after the rampage near londons house of parliament. Parliament was back in session today. In fact Prime Minister theresa may addressed lawmakers following a moment of silence. She called london the greatest city on earth. She revealed the attacker 52yearold Khalid Masood was british born and had a long criminal record. He had previously been investigated for ties to violent extremism. Overnight British Police conducted raids. They arrested several people they say were linked to the attack. The death toll has been revised to four which includes the attacker who was shot and killed by police, two civilians and a London Police officer in fact this afternoon they also announced a 75yearold victim was as well;, has succumbed to his injuries as well. Dozens of others were injured including one american so there was one a couple from utility tax the husband died, the wife was injured. They were supposed to be back in the United States today many. Celebrating their anniversary. Lets bring in james norton founder of play action strategies. Thanks for having me. I think the question a lot of us have tonight okay we see london saying okay the lay disaster london is opened were back in business. What kind of political ramifications come out of a situation like this. You know, i think its important to remember that, you know, both theresa may and donald trump are relatively new in their leadership. Donald trump has only been here for a couple weeks. The same with theresa may, directiobrexit was just over the summer. A lot of times the western world wants to test with some attacks. I think this is a test on her leadership. I think shes doing a great job at this point in terms of rallying britain and london and telling that em to continue on with there lives and this isnt going to, a them and essentially she said were not going to be afraid which i think was the right message. Let me ask you about security in general. I mean its come out now that this man was a part of isis. Isis claimed responsibility for this attack. We also learned he had been investigated before for his ties to extremism. How on earth, though othey didnt have any evidence that he was planning to do this . How do we protect ourselves . How does the uk protect themselves. How do we protect ourselves in the u. S. For situations like this. How do we stay safe. Unfortunately, you know, these types of attacks have become essentially the new normal where an instrument such as a vehicle or a single handgun a rifle which is not a very complex attack has become the form that organizations like isis are using to spread fear and terror and have loss of life and so its going to really require continued vigilance on t only obviously Law Enforcement and the federal government are out to protect citizens but citizens individually especially when they go to things like soft targets like clubs, places Like National monuments obviously in front of parliament is a soft target. We saw attempted attacks at stadiums in europe where you had potential grenades and things like that to cause terror. We need to be vigilant especially gathering places that take place. You mentioned brexit at the top of this. That is one of the reasons a lot of voters went to the polls in the uk and said were going to leave the European Union because of the European Unions stance on immigration and more or less the border issue. That seems to be as big an issue overseas as it is here. Its interesting to see the translation from the u can. To the u. S. I think immigration theresa may already signaled earlier before the attack she had given a date for the brexit was going to happen there and immigration obviously is an issue thats raging here in the u. S. And just up the street there was an attack in maryland and thats obviously causing a lot of debate and youre referring to the high school, right. Correct. Okay. All right. Were just making sure that you werent talking about a some sort of. Bowling green or anything like that when you said attack. No, no, no. Good to see you tonight. Thanks for having me. Gop house intelligence chairman devin nunes apologized for going directly to the white house with surveillance claims instead of first sharing that information with his democratic counterpart or even the Intel Committee. Nunes held a press conference yesterday. He announced he had new classified information that the trump transition messages were inadvertently intercepted by u. S. Intelligence agencies. Democrats blasted him for his perceived allegiance to the Trump Administration and now they say theyre skeptical about that information because nunes wont reveal his sources. As you know, we have to keep our sources and methods here very quiet. Ive told the American Public several times that we want people to come to us, to bring us information if they have it and over the course investigation weve had many sources who have come to this committee and as you can imagine, some many dont want you to know, they dont want anyone to know who they are. End good, that was again, that was yesterday. He sas that he read, those classified reports he was talking about mentioned russia or the connection to the trump Transition Team. You know, when you look at this situation, this is why theres some distrust in the process here because, again, he went right to the president which is unusual. Look, it doesnt matter where you and stand on political spectrum. Its unusual he goes to the subject of the investigation and says heres where he stands which is one of the reasons you have news today. We also talked about the fact that he was a former member of the Transition Team itself. Yeah. But its not just democrats that were upset about this. Republican senator john mccain called this very disturbing the way devin nunes handled this and he said he would like to see and possibly an independent investigation where its not this Intel Committee looking into this. This i think is very similar like Loretta Lynch and bill clinton on the tarmac possibly talking about the Hillary Clinton email investigation. Its all about perception and optics sometimes in politics. Outrage tonight of course over the alleged rape at Rockville High School and it had as now boiled over onto capitol hill. Tonight the chairman of the house judiciary is speaking exclusively to fox5. Fitz broke this story last night that tere was move under way to get more information on the case. Hes live on the hill with more. Reporter jim and shawn good evening. Yeah, we did sit down with the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee jonathan goodlatte. He says as tragic cant more and ribble as the details of this case are, he says when you dive into exactly how these two suspects got into this into this country, the chairman says this is an all too common occurrence on the u. S. Mexico border, it being this. Individuals who are picked by u. S. Customs officials dee adetained for a brief period of time and once theyre able to establish they have relatives in other parts of the United States are then released and told they would have to later report to an administrative immigration judge. Those hearings are never scheduled so the chairman says tonight that is a big part of what he wants answers about specifically in regards to this Rockville High School rape case. This is a little bit about how w down with the chairman in his office earlier today here on capitol hill. We have already received a good verbal response from the department of Homeland Security that they are looking forward to responding to this letter as an opportunity to tell how theyre changing policies so that in the future, people showing up at our border will not get released into the interior of the country so that things like this will be far less likely to happen. Already we were told that they are getting information from ice in preparation of this hearing that will take place tuesday. What youre looking at there was a demonstration at a Bethesda Elementary School today, one of the schools in the Montgomery County Public School system where the secretary of Education Betsy Devos was today. She did not take questions from us in the media about this case. Her office did release a Statement Today expressing shock and outrage at the details of this case. She also expressed her condolences to the victim in this case as well, jim and shawn. The latest for us tonight. Thank you. All right. It is at the center of a lot of controversy but now the president. We have something else. I do this all the time, shawn. You stay over there. Heres the thing. While were on the air we made on social media before i run the teleprompter okay. Yeah. I have big feet. I am very happy with s yeah, he just rolls through where were supposed to send it over to sue palka. Sue its no the not a slight to. Its just jims big feet. Poor jim. [laughter] listen jim you have to roll like i do in the weather which is you dont even need the teleprompter and sometimes your clicker wont work but that was a couple shows ago. Well move on and talk about why you do not have to worry about the size of your feet as the weather is warming up and everybody is going to feel g listen, we have a couple of showers that could be around tomorrow morning pretty far north. I think most places wont see any showers and some good news is its not going to be as cold as it was last night although well fall into the 30s, so its possible a couple of those showers up through pennsylvania could come down in the form of a little bit of freezing rain but it is the beginning of a warmer trend that is really going to see temperatures spiking into the mid 70s on saturday Perfect Timing because the Cherry Blossoms are going to be out and about and we will stay mild on sunday but its going to be a little bit unsettled, a lot more clouds, maybe some showers afternoon. About a 40 percent chance of that. Even next week, the spring weather, the temperatures at least are going to be sticking around but well have a few more april showers that were going to be throwing into the mix and actually thats a good thing because we can use the rain. That is for sure. Now, overnight temperatures again not quite as chilly as it was last night, generally in the 30s and our fox5 accuweather 7day forecast, here we go. You can see all these temperatures are now finally a little bit above average instead of below average as they have been, even next week with some showers possible monday, tuesday. Well stay in the low 70s wednesday and thursday in the 60s. Thats your sevenday forecast. Jim and shawn who is running the prompter now . Well, jim is still running the prompter but, you know, hes focused on it. Hes good at it. Hes good at it now. Yes, he is. Thank you, sue. You all right there, jim. Im fine. Its been the center of a lot of controversy but now the president and his new hotel in inthe clearly well talk about that when 5 at 6 30 comes yeah, i just saved a whole lot of money by switching to geico. Huh. We should take a closer look at geico. You know, geico insures way more than cars. Boats, motorcycles. Even rvs geico insures rvs . Whats an rv . Uh, the thing weve been stuck on for five years wait, im not a real moose . . Weve been over this, jeff. Were stickers im not a real moose . Give him some space. Deep breaths, jeff. Whats a sticker . . Take a closer look at geico. Great savings. And a whole lot more. Welcome back. I dont know about you, when ive had friends in town they want to see two things on pennsylvania avenue. They want to see the white house and where is the new trump hotel at also on pennsylvania avenue and business as usual there tonight and some good news for the president and the trump organization. A federal landlord has ruled the president s hotel does not violate the lease terms forbidding benefits to elected officials. An Ethics Watchdog Group sued the president saying he violated the constitution by allowing his business to accept payments from foreign governments. The president claims hes handed over his Global Real Estate and licensing to his sons but he continues a steak in the business even in the white house. Another round of hearings for neil gorsuch. Fox5s ronica cleary joins us now with the very latest. Hey, ronica. Reporter hey jim and shawn and heres the thing. If you havent paid close attention with all of the other news that weve been talking about, you could have easily missed the fact that the senate has been Holding Hearings all week to confirm judge neil gorsuch as the next Supreme Court justice. Now, in order for gorsuch to be confirmed, he must reach0 republicans only hold 52 seats and some democrats, they are looking to make it more difficult to get to 60. Now, Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer says hell vote against gorsuchs nomination and hes encouraging other democrats to do so as well in order to stop that vote from reaching 60. Now, if this happens, he is threatening to filibuster the nominee. Now, the white house responded to this threat today in the white house briefing. Take a listen. Earlier today democratic leader Chuck Schumer announced that Senate Democrats will be mounting a filibuster against his nomination. We and find senator schumers announcement truly disappoint because it breaks with the tradition of how the senate has handled Supreme Court confirmation votes in modern time and represents the type of partisanship americans have grown tired of. Reporter now, senator graham took senator graham has responded to senator schumers threat. He has said that he would be willing to exe option. Now this would eliminate the filibuster option completely allowing a justice to be confirmed with a simple majority. Now a positive for republicans today but some have said this is short sighted and warned that it could backfire the next time democrats are in the majority. Now, democrats of course, they are frustrated if you look back by the fact that the senate didnt even hold a hearing for president obamas Supreme Court pick judge merrick garland. So, a lot of back and forth. A lot of as always. Yup. Well see what happens. Well see if he gets nominated. All right, thank you ronica. Thanks. All right. You know what, you are never too young to learn something new, jim. I didnt know that. Little hard to hear there but for that young man right there hes getting some lessons from one of the best.
