Temperatures right now into the 30s pretty much everywhere. We are expecting to get into the low 40s. Yesterday, we reached 3 degrees at national. But we are expecting today to see at least 41 degrees with some breezy winds. Well have more details a little later. Back to you. Checking our other top stories now, officials in brazil are still trying to determine the cause of a deadly nightclub fire. It killed at least 230 people and injured hundreds more. This amateur video taken shows the chaos at the scene. Witnesses believe the fire was sparked by a flare or fireworks set off by a band member inside the club. We know at least one of the locks was locked at the club trapping the victims inside. Weve learned that most of the people at the club were university students. We have more in this report. Reporter a nightclub tragedy in brazils Southern City of santa maria where a fire and panic in the aftermath leaves hundreds dead. Some of you arent seeing much but some of you are in the thick of t lets take a look at our fox 5 accuweather radar. You can see the areas shaded in pink. That is where we have a mixture of sleet and freezing rain and then to the north and to the east of delmarva, there is a little bit of rainfall. We will see this continuing to fill in as the morning does progress. It will hamper your commute and will be sticking around for a good part of the day. But once again, this is all going to affect conditions out there on the roads with the ice. So mostly a messy mix is what were talking about. Surface temperatures remaining below freezing. Sleet and freezing rain. It will become all rain by the afternoon hours and also we are talking only minor Ice Accumulation with this. Dont take it lightly. Our high today will be about 41 degrees. I noticed on my trip southbound coming in off the ramp from 124 and 117, there are at least four salt trucks there. So crews are on standby. They are ready for this precipitation. As gwen was mentioning, it is going to be a sloppy commute. You got to leave early and plan ahead. Make sure you have plenty of wiper fluid and the ice scraper. That all helps. Lanes are open with light volume on 95 and 295. Coming across the American Legion bridge, this is appear easy commute so far. Remember, the bridges, ramps and overpasses freeze before anything so make note of that. Northbound 95 out of woodbridge, no trouble spots to report right now. We are hearing of precipitation moving in from the west. Northbound 95 as you continue up onto 395, no issues reported right now in the express lanes and main lines. Waking up to dry pavement. That will change by the time you leave the house headed on out to work. Incidentfree out to the 14th street bridge. 66 still an easy trip coming inbound from manassas headed towards fair oaks. Thats a check of your fox 5 ontime traffic. Now for a developing story out of brazil where officials continue to investigate the cause of a deadly nightclub fire. The gun control debate steps up a bit when a Senate Committee begins debate on president obamas plan. Reporter president obama and Vice President joe biden laid out their proposal for new gun control legislation earlier this month. It includes a ban on assault weapons. This is where they have a winter storm warning in effect. Up to about an inch of snowfall there is anticipated. We are looking at fog that could develop a little bit later on with all of this. A lot of things going on that are going to affect driving conditions. Current temperatures, 34 degrees in the nations capital. 32 at frederick. 34 at manassas this hour and 30 degrees at martinsburg. Yesterday, our highs were into the upper 30s. Well get slightly warmer today. But what were dealing with is a ridge of High Pressure that will slide off the coast. We have an approaching low pressure system with an associated warm front. That will pull in and that is bringing all that sleet and freezing rain with it. Behind that, well see a little bit of a change because this frontal system will move to the north. Well actually benefit from that. Wisdom will love this when he sees it on the sevenday. Well get a real influx of warmer air moving in here. This particular model is showing us by the time we get a little closer towards the 5 00, 6 00 hour, well start to ejust on the perimeter for d. C. Some of this mix and freezing rain and sleet. But the heavier rainfall behind t as we progress into the morning hours, it becomes fairly widespread. We end up seeing some rain taking over. That will linger through to the afternoon. Not a total washout this afternoon. Well get a few break here and there. Overall throughout the morning commute, this is what you have to be aware. By this afternoon, around 4 00, we get a little bit of a break and it all stays to the east once we get into the evening hours with just a spotty shower here and there. So not all bad. 41degrees. Winds from the south 10 to 15 Miles Per Hour into the course of today. For tonight, well see our low drop to 38. Take a look at wednesday. We get the jet stream well to the north im real influx of warmer air. We are headed to 61 degrees. We have rain because we have a stronger system heading our way. The rest of the week, we end up dry as temperatures dip down into the 30s and 40s. We do have a note to pass along to people out there that Stafford County, virginia Public Schools are on a two hour display. A friend of mine hit me up on twitter and he is a firefighter down in Stafford County and already seeing the freezing rain on 610 and i95. Remember to have a windshield scraper with you and some de icer if you have that. Allow extra time out on the roads. This will be with us throughout our morning drive. Right now, dry pavement here. You will find yourself at speed as you continue north of the Fairfax County parkway headed north onto 395. No trouble spots to report at the wilson bridge. Traffic flowing freely there. 395 at duke street but waking up to dry pavement that will change if it hasnt already. Here we are coming in from the west off of 66. And hearing of that precipitation moving into the area for those traveling out of hagerstown, winchester, leesburg. So proceed with caution out there. Slow it down. The brims, ramp and overpasses freeze before anything else. You will find your lanes are open. So far, no incidents to report southbound along 270. Still nice and clear coming in out of hyattstown. A number of salt trucks stacked up in gaithersburg leaving 370, headed down to montrose road. They are anticipating this. New this morning, the pentagon plans to boost its cybersecurity force in order to combat a growing threat of hacking. The Washington Post reports the move will increase the force from 900 personnel to nearly 5,000. The plan will also reportedly create three different kinds of security groups, National Mission forces, combat Mission Forces and cyberprotection forces. The move comes after a string of attacks including one that wiped out 30,000 computers at a Saudi Arabian oil facility. The beefedup cybersecurity force also comes on the heels of a threat of the federal governments web site. The group is claiming responsibility to death of an internet programmer. The hacker claim they gained access to several Computer Systems and are copying information and threatening to release it. It is dangerous. After the wikipedia leaks, you would have hoped we cleaned this up. We havent. It is something we dont spend enough time and money on. It is a serious vulnerability. The government has to first of all figure out where can it protect and how can it protect without becoming too intrusive into everybodys daily lives. A new study on multitasking is wielding some eyeopening results. You are not eastbound going to notice you are bad at it. Reporter that is the irony behind a study published this week at the university of utah. Researchers already knew that texting and driving is a bad combination. In terms of a crash risk, texting is off the charts. Weve never found anybody who can do that safely. Reporter the new study finds that talking and driving handsfree or otherwise is just too tough for most of our brains. We have a situation where we are trying to do too much with the mental hardware we have in many cases and we dont do it well.
