failure, it broke up only a minute and a half after liftoff crashing into the yellow sea. this morning, american and south korean ships are looking for pieces of that rocket. the united nations security council is meeting in an emergency session. the united states is denouncing the launch as a provocative act. high school students in fairfax county may soon be able to sleep in longer. last night the school board passed a resolution to start exploring starting high school classes later. experts say teens have a hard time going to sleep before 11:00 which means they must sleep later in the morning to get i proper amount of sleep. a tough loss for the caps in the opening game against the bruins. chris kelly scored a game- winning goal. game two is tomorrow in boston also. the series morning out there. not a whole lot happening but a ridge of high pressure in control. by this afternoon, we are talking some nice sunshine. 47degrees right now at reagan national airport. 37 at dulles. 43 at bwi thurgood marshall. a mild day as temperatures head to the 60s. 59 by midday today. by the 4:00 hour, 64. my daytime high, 65 degrees and when we get to the chance of talking about hill from arizona avenue, lanes are open coming into northwest. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. developing on the korean peninsula now, the north defied international warnings and fired a long-range rocket but it failed less than two minutes after lifting off. despite this failure, the white house calls it provocative and is cutting off food aid to north korea. the united nations is also meeting this morning and could start new sanctions on north korea. three men from two different virginia gangs involved in two separate sex trafficking cases are pleading guilty. federal prosecutors say all three men admitted to recruiting high school aged girls into prostitution. they say gangs are turning to teenage sex trafficking to make money. feds are calling to a growing trend. one of those would pled guilty yesterday faces life in prison. the other two are hoping for lesser sentences in return for their cooperation. d.c. police want to talk to this man. investigators say he is a person of interest in a sexual assault that occurred in southeast wednesday night. police say the woman was physically and sexually assaulted. if you recognize this person, you are urged to call police. more details on the meth bust as we first brought you yesterday. a search warrant was served at an apartment and they found the lab. they charged hugh elsberry iii with selling cocaine. a 31-year-old woman believed to be his fiancee and an infant were in the apartment. investigators say they found a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine. they have not yet filed any charges related to the suspected meth lab. ted meth la now to the trayvon martin shooting. george zimmerman made his first court appearance in sanford, florida yesterday. he was dressed in a prison jumpsuit and accompanied by his new lawyer. he was ordered held without bond. he is charged with second- degree murder in the february death of trayvon martin. >> it felt it was the appropriate charge. as miss corey stated yesterday, we are seekers of the truth and justice. based on our experience, we thought that was the case. >> he is facing second-degree murder charges. he is frightened. that would frighten any one of us. >> zimmerman is being held in protective custody because of the notoriety of his case. he will be formally arraigned may 29th. our other big story, parents in fairfax county say it is time for a change. melanie alnwick is live at marshall high school in falls church with the details. >> reporter: most fairfax county schools begin at 7:20 in the morning with bus pick high pressure ups starting before 6:00 in the morning in some cases. it has been about 10 years now that this group of parents and students have been trying to get this pushed back a little bit. it does appear the school board is at least willing to listen as they heard from parents, students and educators and from health professionals and then they voted 10-2 to begin looking at what it would take to push the high school start times back so they would start after 8:00 in the morning. they told board members that the current schedule makes it impossible for students to get the sleep they need. >> adolescents have brain chemistry that doesn't let them go to sleep until after 11:00 or so at night. so in order to get the full amount of sleep that they need, they have to be able to sleep later on in the morning. >> reporter: board members did reject a similar proposal in 2009. they said that rearranging schedules and adding bus was simply cost too much. parents came up with another no- cost proposal and that plan was rejected because another group of parents sand students said that rearranging the schedules would cause chaos with other family and school activity schedules as you can understand. school board has six new members and those six voted in favor of the proposal. it doesn't mean the chain is a lock. what it means is that superintendent jack tale will have to begin a study of how other high schools in the area have managed these later start times and then he has to report back to the board in june. that is the latest from here in falls church. back to you. >> thank you. new this morning, a deadly police standoff. tragedy for a police chief just days from retirement.  an all-night police standoff in new hampshire. a man shot and killed the sheriff of the tiny town of greenland, new hampshire last night as he tried to serve a search warrant. four other officers are in the hospital. the shooter is still inside the home. hundreds of police officers are surrounding the house. the sheriff who was killed had just two weeks -- or was just two week away from retiring. lawyers in the john edwards campaign finance trial are trying to pick a jury. former democratic vice presidential candidate is facing six criminal counts in north carolina for trying to hide secret payments. jury selection continues on monday. a war of words between the two women about women continues to dominate the presidential campaign discussion. democratic strategist hilary rosen is now apologizing for her comments about ann romney's decision to be a stay at home mom. rosen said mrs. romney couldn't relate to most women's economic challenges because she has never worked a day in her life. now, everyone from the president to the first lady to ann romney herself chiming in on the controversy. >> we need to respect choices that women make. she should have come to my house when the five boys were causing so much trouble. it (man) register today for the... and receive $25 off your registration fee. because everyone deserves a lifetime. 50,000 flyers from gay rights groups are being handed out in montgomery county high schools. move is in response tie controversial leaflet hand out in february that many considered anti-dpai. the whole thing has the county re-erail waiting its flyer policy. audrey barnes has the details. >> reporter: students in all 25 montgomery county high schools will be getting flyers this week from the group parents, family and friends of lesbians and gays also known at p-flag. >> our message is that if air gay, you're all right. and that groups that are telling or your friends that oh, you could just change if you wanted to are not telling you the truth. >> reporter: the flyer distribution is to counter the message from the group p-fox which stands for parents and friends of ex-gays and gays. they delivered thousands of flyers in february. >> we are trying to present the reality that people who experience same-sex attractions do not have to be locked into a gay identity for their entire life. >> reporter: the response to the p-fox flyers was swift. some parents complained it was anti-gay and the superintendent called them deplorable. >> what was your reaction? >> i wondered if he had actually read it. >> reporter: some parents don't think schools is the place for that type of discussion. >> it is the responsibility of the parents towards their own children, not towards other children. >> reporter: this parent with two high school daughters says the flyers provide a moment. >> i'm fine with it because it just opens the door to have a discussion about the issue. >> reporter: but after numerous complaint from students and parents, montgomery county school officials say they will review the policy that allows any nonprofit to send home flyers to students at certain times of the year. in a statement to fox 5 news, a spokesman writes the board of education's policy committee is considering changes to this policy will be brought before the whole board on april 30th. the changes will be posted for public comment before any final decision is made. that is a move this parent supports. >> and there are certain things that should be left to the parents. >> once again, the flyer policy goes before the board on april 30th. sunday marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the titanic. coming up next, details of what one local organization is doing to help commemorate the tragedy and how you can take part. stay with us. ay with us. r n my lifet we'll be right back. i could wak 60 miles in 3 days. 60 miles in 3 days is-- is huge. if my mom can fight and beat breast cancer, i can walk 60 miles. you just put one foot in front of the other, and you know that you're walking for such a great cause that you just keep going.
