>> it is getting better, thank you very much. still doing a little therapy on it. i'll be ready to run with you next month, i promise. >> can't wait. >> on the roads, wet pavement out there but not causing any trouble just yet. inbound 66 looks good leaving manassas headed in towards centreville. a holiday week for some so we are anticipating our traffic patterns to change just a bit in volume. along the beltway, all lanes are open annandale to merrifield. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. imetraffic. >> thank you. the u.s. coast guard has rescued two sailors off the coast of california. the sailors were participate an aaround the world race when a huge wave hit their yacht. >> they were only about 400 miles way from the finish line. lauren green has the details. >> reporter: the ship was one of 10 participating in the clipper around the world yacht race. the crew members found themselves in need of rescue when a massive we've came crashing down on their vessel. >> waves the size of buildings. winds that you've never experienced before. >> reporter: the yacht was in the pacific ocean in the midst of the sixth leg of their journey when disaster truck. >> we've seen waves that could do to this so we are pretty shocked and we all know the people on the boat. that was most difficult thing. not surprised. we saw some huge waves and huge winds so, yeah, anything can happen really. >> reporter: the wave hit the stress well such force it knocked out the boat's steering and some of of the communication equipment. >> we were in winds up to 55 knots gusting but i think the major problem they had was a massive wave broke behind them and came forward so you had all this water breaking over the boat and pushing them forward. >> reporter: at least three of the crew members have been seriously injured. coast guard officials have dropped medical supplies to the stricken ship as rescue attempts have been hampered by bad weather. >> weather is always unpredictable. that is what we've been facing the most of all day today. the seas, winds and the ability to the cutter to launch the aircraft. >> reporter: the yacht is heading toward the san francisco bay under secondary steering and is expected to reach land within two or three days. gas prices keep creeping upwards. more than $4 a gallon in the district. as we approach a holiday weekend, how much will a long distance drive cost you?
