>> brrr! >> i knew you were going to say something like that. >> i was like can't i just do it from my bed with my jammies on today. >> you got that sweater on. nice and toasty. >> i need another one. yes, we are looking good coming across the inbound 14th street bridge. no trouble spots to report right now. you will find a stretch of roadwork that was in place along 66 out near 123. that too is in the process of being cleared. no incidents to report for those continuing their trip on the beltway leaving 95 college park headed around towards georgia avenue. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. in video seen first here on fox, gary giordano is free. a jump in aruba freed the gaithersburg man last night despite being the prime suspect in the disappearance of robyn gardner. prosecutors are still trying to build a case against him and will appeal giordano's release at a hearing later this morning. giordano has hired the same lawyer who defended casey anthony. later on today, a federal judge will hear testimony on whether the man who shot president reagan should be released into his family's care. john hinckley has been in a mental facility since his trial ended in 1982. his attorneys say he is no longer a threat. the hearing may last up to a week and a half. it is not clear whether hinckley will testify. the suspected east coast rapist is now back in virginia and is expected to appear in a prince william county courtroom this morning via a video hook- up. aaron thomas was extradited from connecticut yesterday and is now facing six charges in virginia that could give him four life sentences. thomas is suspected in at least 11 other cases in several states beginning back in 1997. police say they have dna linking him to the crimes. the state of connecticut has agreed not to seek thomas' return if he gets more than 60 years. are. call for changes in the way after-hours clubs do business in the nation's capital. it is all following a deadly shooting over the weekend. one man was killed and five others injured in the early morning brawl. but one city leader has a plan to make the streets safer. bob barnard as the details on this plan. >> reporter: when the violence ended early sunday morning on the sidewalk and street outside heritage india nightclub in dupont circle, three men had been shot, three others stabbed. 4-year-old jonte coleman was killed. the food service worker hay three-year-old daughter. >> all of us were very disturbed about it. we haven't had a shooting let alone a homicide on connecticut avenue in years. >> reporter: d.c. police chief kathy lanier has temporarily shut down heritage india, one of several downtown restaurants that become nightclubs after hours. >> they go on until 3:00 in the morning. generally, people have too much to drink. they leave the club and fights break out, people are very noisy. >> reporter: so d.c. council member jack evans says he is considering a plan to force the nightclubs to pay d.c. police for what are called reimbursable details. >> it is off-duty police officers paid by the establishment to patrol outside the street to make sure that, when people do leave, they leave in an orderly fashion. >> anything that makes customers safer is basically protecting our business and our liquor license. >> reporter: the owner of shadow room on k street downtown says there is never a problem with parties here and he says he is concerned about the added cost of the evans plan. >> everyone is going to have to look at that. some businesses can't afford it. i'm pretty sure we'll be able to possibly afford it. but it also is a legal matter. can you require businesses -- we live in a democracy. we're in a tough economy. can you require that? >> reporter: councilmember evans says the answer is simple. >> we can do it. that is all i need is somebody to do that and i'll do it. >> reporter: reimbursable police details have been used for years in adams morgan and georgetown. a six-year-old boy died in a house fire in prince george's county last weekend. and now his mother and aunt have also passed. 62-year-old merle monroe is the only survivor of the fire on griffin street. she tried to wake up her daughter and sister but they did not make t the fire chief is calling to a tragedy of epic proportions and says there was not a single working smoke detector inside the house. is this the beginning of the end for herman cain? the republican presidential hopeful told aides that he is reseasing his run for the white house. it comes a day of after a georgia woman claimed she had and fair with cain that lasted for more than 13 years. cain denies the allegations and in a conference call with his senior staff tuesday, he only committed to keeping his campaign schedule for the next several days. during a speech in michigan, cain did not address the allegations. >> life can be a challenge. life can seem impossible. it is never easy when there's so much on the line but you can make a difference. there is a mission just for you. >> four other women have accused cain of sexual harassment. he also denies those claims. dr. conrad murray got the maximum sentence. four years in prison for involuntary manslaughter in the death of michael jackson. the singer died of an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol. the judge scolded murray for his numerous lies and desenses before and after the sentencing. murray's lawyers plan to appeal. under california law, he will only serve half of the four- year sentence in county jail. big financial troubles for the third largest airline in the nation. american airlines looks to erase massive debts but what will it mean for you, the flying public?
