>> have to wait and see how the system holds up. >> all right. let's check in with julie wright this morning with the latest on traffic for us. >> good morning to you both. we are off to a quiet start. overnight construction still lingering if you are traveling over in the tyson's area due to that hot lane work that. should be picked up shortly. no problems traveling between college park and bethesda. southbound 270 in the clear germantown headed for the lane divide and an easy ride coming across the american legion bridge. 14th street bridge traffic returning at speed as you travel across the potomac headed for the southeast- southwest freeway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. new this morning, firefighters battleed a fire overnight in montgomery county t broke out around midnight in the 1500 block of caneyard hill road in gaithersburg. no word on any injuries at this time or what may have caused the fire. here are some stories making headlines this morning. we have disturbing new details about the murder inside the lululemon store in bethesda. prosecutors believe the motive now is connected to some stolen merchandise. police say jayna murray may have confronted her accused killer brittany norwood over the stolen items she found inside her bag. police say norwood called murray later that night to let her back into the store to get a wallet she said she left behind. that is when police say the murder happened. investigators say this was all staged. they found norwood's blood and hat as well as murray's blood inside murray's car even though norwood said she was never in the car. video shows a white vehicle driving in front of the store just a few blocks away a couple of hours after the murder. >> premed degree is the legal theory. i think the charge that was brought is the appropriate charge and our argument for premeditation will be made at the time of trial to the jury. >> a preliminary hearing is set for april 15th. norwood is being held without bond and faces possibly life in prison. a man walking home from work was again down in broad daylight. that murder happened in olney, maryland just days after a suspicious death last week about two miles away from there. sherry ly has more on this one. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. in this late shooting in olney, the victim's uncle heard the gunshots, ran down the street and saw his nephew laying in the street. the victim had just moved to this country about six months ago. now, montgomery county police are looking for his killer. punyasra gedara was about a block from home when he was shot about 4:00 yesterday afternoon on north high street. the 41-year-old had just moved to olney. he start a new job at a sub shop and was on the way home. at the time of the shooting, police say an older model beige toyota camry was seen near the area. this is the second suspicious death in olney in just three days. friday, an 81-year-old man was found dead inside his home. >> at this stage of the investigation, we have no information to tell us that these two incidents are represented. >> we don't have any enemies. he is not drinking. he is not smoking. he never do that. he is a very innocent person so how can i believe that? >> reporter: gedara's uncle said he came to this country to start a new life and he left two brothers and a sister in sri lanka. now, news of his death has shaken his family to the core. at the sub shop where he worked, the last time anyone saw gedara, they said he smiled at them, he waved and said he was on his way home. a few minutes later, police were back at the shop to tell them that he'd been shot and didn't make it. back to you. now to the attacks in libya and the fighting continues in opposition held cities in libya as rebels become emboldened by air strikes by the united states and other coalition allies. in tripoli, there was another night of attacks targeting moammar ghadafi's air defenses and forces. the united states has taken the lead but the president wants to hand over control of the operation. >> reporter: during a one-day stop in chile, president obama spoke about the u.s.-led attacks on libya and the enforcement of a no-fly zone. he says the u.s. will soon relinquish control of the operation. >> we anticipate this transition to take place in a matter of days and not a matter of weeks. >> reporter: in no uncertain terms, the president also said moammar ghadafi has to go. >> i could see accomplishing the military mission, which has been assigned to me, and the current leader who remain the current leader. >> the only favorable strategic outcome is ghadafi gone and some form of stability reestablished in a country that right now is facing a protracted civil war. >> reporter: coalition forces have launched about 125 tomahawk cruise missiles at strategic military areas. commanders say ghadafi is not a target. coalition jets are now expanding the no-fly zone and strikes have stopped ghadafi's ground forces from advancing. >> we are trying to end the violence. we have made progress to that end. there was fierce fighting in the capital in the last few days. the rebels have pushed ghadafi's forces back. the four "new york times" journalists held captive in libya are now free. they spent six days in custody. they entered libya from egypt without visas. a maryland marine has been killed in afghanistan. 25-year-old staff sergeant james malkowski is from westminster. he died sunday while conducting combat operations in afghanistan. the military did not release other details of his death. we still have more stories coming up on fox 5. up next, new developments in japan. encouraging news at that damaged nuclear power plant and new word of a victim from our area. the time now is 4:38 on this tuesday.  more on the disafter ther in japan now. there is no quick fix at the damaged nuclear plant. workers are back after they were pulled away yesterday because of smoke rising from the crippled reactors. of this now reconnected electricity to the plant this morning but that will not automatically solve the problems. restoring power is key and it could help cool the reactor cores. meanwhile, the body of a 24- year-old english teach ferreira virginia has been discovered in the wreckage of the japan tsunami. her body was found about 240 miles north of tokyo. taylor anderson could be the first known american victim in the japan disaster. some other stories making headlines this morning. a judge says there is enough evidence to prosecute a teenaged girl for the deadly shooting of another d.c. teenager. police say there were several people in the bedroom sunday when a 15-year-old girl shot and killed 18-year-old gary gordon. apparently, the girl did not realize the gun was loaded. authorities say someone also tried to cover up the shooting by firing the gun outside the bedroom window. students at anacostia high were shocked to hear the news about their classmate. >> it is crazy. everybody telling me of his a quiet kid. >> the girl is charged with murder and investigators are still talking to other people who were in the room at the time to figure out who fired the gun through the window. we still have plenty ahead on fox 5 morning news. coming up next, do you have any unpaid fines in the district? [ female announcer ] go to yoplait.com to start your two week tune up. this week yoplait light yogurt is only 20 for $10 at giant. welcome back. we are taking a live look over the woodrow wilson bridge. we'll get a check of your traffic coming up in just a moment. your drive should be fairly easy and uneventful compared to what is going on out west of here. two wildfires are forcing people from their homes in the mountains west of denver, colorado. the so-called indian gulch fire started sunday and spread rapidly in the warm, dry conditions out there. firefighters now have it 15% contained and are still working to keep it from affecting about 250 homes on the east side. they have warned residents there to evacuate. dry conditions out there but i think we're far from try out here after effect we've been going through. >> we've had so much rainfall and we are in for more rainfall unfortunately. >> have we caught up yet? >> we're almost there. we've done fairly well, thank goodness. nobody wants to hear about rain deficits when they are outside trying to have some enjoyment because it is spring. let's have a look at. this today is where we're starting off dry with a mix of sun and clouds i'm happy to say. you won't need your umbrella for the afternoon hours or into the course of today at all. can't give you a whole lot of sunshine later today but we're starting out that way. we still have an unsettled weather pattern for the week. today, we are seeing a cooler, northerly flow of air. most of the precipitation is out to the west and south of us. this is all associated with the frontal boundary that has stalled out right now. those temperatures yesterday, look at this. 70degrees at national airport. the same at dulles. 73degrees at baltimore. we're talking some 14 degrees or so above the seasonal average for the day. so spring is really giving us some nice conditions. it will be cooler as we move through into the week. we've got this stalled frontal system. we'll see cooler conditions settling in for us. the problem is we'll see waves of low pressure riding along this front. that is going to set us up for some instability as it starts to move its way more to the north. overnight tonight, we are talking some showers moving in. wednesday is a tricky forecast because, depending on how far this front gets, that will determine our temperatures and whether we see any thunderstorms popping up. we could see some instability awednesday. the we-- we could see some instability on wednesday. current temperature right now, 58 degrees at dulles. 52 at gaithersburg. 51 at annapolis and 53 at baltimore. mostly sunny and then increasing clouds later today as the system starts to move its way to the north. for tonight, overnight, rain is moving back in the forecast. 47degrees and it will be a wet day in terms of your wednesday. the question, of course, will be whether or not we'll see any storms popping up. here is your five-day forecast. the sun returns just in time for julie wright on friday. >> just for me. i like it when you do the weather, gray went, just for me. thank you. good to see you. -- i like it when you do the weather, gwen, just for me. thank you. no problems reported on the beltway traveling e park exits exits in bethesda. 66 coming in from fair oaks towards 123, traffic volume moving at speed here. no incidents to report suitland parkway headed inbound towards south capital street and the douglass bridge. light traffic volume here as well as at the wilson bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. we have a traffic alert for you. preliminary work is under way on a major construction project along constitution avenue from 23rd to 15th streets in d.c. so expect some major delays from now through early next year. something else that causes major delays this time of year, potholes. if you see a pothole in d.c., they want to you call and report it. call 311 in order to do that. the district kicks off its pothole-palooza program. road crews hope to fix a pothole within 48 hours of you reporting it. do you have any unpaid fines in the district? think up i'll get way with not paying? you might want to think again. the district soon could be continuing after you and we are talking about millions of dollars owed to the district from people who simply refuse to pay up. right now, some of the fines go unpaid and no one really pushes to collect the debt. later today, councilmembers will discuss the idea of going after those who owe the district money. they want to create a collections unit that will work with all district agencies that issue the fines. dmv reported more than # hundred million in unpaid tickets in 2009 -- more than $300 million in unpaid tickets in 2009. >> there are other agencies that have created a centralized job to go out and collect the money. they found that they do get a higher rate of collection. so what i'm hoping to do is to replicate that. >> she believes the time has come for those who owe d.c. money to pay up or that d.c. will have to come after you. with food prices on the rise, paying for groceries can make quite a dent in your monthly budget. consumers checkbook found that shoppers could save as much as 19% by switching their grocery store. fox 5 money reporter melanie alnwick takes a look at the latest grocery store rankings for us. >> reporter: milk, eggs, coffee, meat, all things we buy every week, all going up in price. usda is projecting a 4% jump in grocery prices this year. >> over last few years, people in the washington area have gotten really good news that there are a lot more choice than there once were so there are opportunities to save. >> reporter: consumers checkbook took a list of 152 items and compared prices at 16 supermarket chains in the d.c. metro area. checkbook says the two largest chains, safeway and giant, had higher prices on average than most other stores, about $150 a week for i standard cart. both also had lower quality ratings, just around 0% in customer surveys. checkbook found cheaper prices at 11 chains, the lowest wal- mart where shopper was save almost $1,500 a year over giant and safeway prices. >> good prices and customer satisfaction are not always found at the same place. but there are some extremely outstanding cases. >> reporter: wegmans, the top rated chain for quality was found to be 11% cheaper. harris teeter also scored high in quality and was slightly cheaper than giant and safeway. thank you. he is the jackie robinson of acc football, the first african-american player in the conference and played for the maryland terps. he sat down with our own dave ross. that is coming up next. the time is a little bit after 5:00.  welcome back now. time to check sports for you. we are starting with a little batted news for the washington capitals. the team has announced that superstar alec ovechkin will be out seven to 10 days with an undisclosed injury. the coach wouldn't go into details about the injury but this comes just as ovechkin has been heating up too. he has discord at least one point in 14 of his last 16 games -- he has scored at least one point in 14 of his last 16 games. fourth seated seat. a special honor for a member of the team. >> i know your arm hurts. you'll be good once your arm is better. >> a one-night only reading of the play called moveling the chain. it is the darryl hill story. the former maryland terp is considered to be the jackie robinson of acc football. first african-american player in the conference. dave ross sat down with him. >> reporter: this is darryl hill in 1963, a wide receive forth university of maryland. just another student athlete who loved to play football. but how many players ever had to hear things like this before the first game in college park. >> prior to the game, i got a death threat. somebody called me and said look, we're going to shoot you. we're going to be up on top of the dormitory with a high- powered rifle. you go out on that teeld, we'll shoot you. >> reporter: under that backdrop, darryl hill did run out onto the field. >> i first declined. you said look, coach, i'm he not trying to be jackie robinson here. i just want to play football and without all the circus that will go around this whole thing. >> reporter: hill didn't start out at maryland. it was quite a voyage to get there. he began at xavier but his mom always wanted him to denied a military academy. >> the next thing i know i go down to my mailbox and there is a letter from john f. kennedy saying congratulations, you've been appointed a midshipman in the eighties naval academy. here i am. the next thing i know i'm getting my hair shaved off and handed some uniforms and i'm in the navy. >> reporter: after becoming the first african-american football player at the academy, hill decideed a life in the navy was not for him. shortly thereafter, he got a call from lee corso, then the head football coach at the university of maryland. >> when it hit the paper that i was leaving, he called me one dayened he said hey, we'd like to you take a visit to maryland. i said what, for a sight seeing tour. he said we want you to come play football for maryland and you said coach, you forgot what conference we play in, the acc is segregated. he said that is just the point. you know, we think it is time for those barriers to come down and we being you're the guy to do it. >> hill was spectacular in 1963 catching 4 # passes, five short of the school record all while standing tall in the face of racism that even affected his mother in an unforgettable game at clemson. >> before the game, one. the coaches came to me and he took me off to the said. there is my mother there and they wouldn't let her in. i took off my uniform and somehow the president of clemson university got wind of this, came down, told me not to worry, took her up to his bo
