be out of the north at about five miles per hour. mow details in -- more details in just a minute. investigators are talking to a whan who they believe hit two teenagers on a motor scooter and left the scene. he turned himself in nearly 1 hours after the accident on viers mill road. both teens were badly hurt and remain in the hospital this morning. investigators are still trying to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved here. jury selection is now under way in the chandra levy murder trial. yesterday, more than 100 potential jurors began filling out a lengthy questionnaire to determine any biases that they may have. 16 people will be chosen, 1 on the panel and four -- 12 on the panel and four alternates. bank of america is moving forward with some foreclosures. it will continue seizing 100,000 homes next week but only in the states that require the court to approve the process. the philippines pounded by a monster typhoon. at least seven people have died from that storm. it is now making its way toward vietnam and china. fox's ainsley earhart has the latest. >> reporter: a super typhoon rocking the philippines. typhoon megi packed wind up to 140 miles per hour when it ripped through the area. heavy rains caused severe flooding and strong winds, knocked down man trees and power lines. one report says a mother and two children were killed when a big tree fell on their house. megi is now heading toward vietnam and southern china, the storm already causing major flooding in vietnam. a bus carrying about 20 passengers was swept away by high waters on the highway. >> the driver told us jump, everyone jump. on the bus there were four girls around 17 or 18, two mothers with two kids sitting behind me. those are the people i remember. they didn't jump. >> reporter: in china, more than 100,000 people have been evacuated from a coastal province. thailand also reporting flooding. forecasters say megi weakened to a category two typhoon after hitting the philippines. ainsley earhart, fox news. the heroes of the holocaust shooting in june of 2009 were honored last night. among them, steven johns, the officer who was killed and the two officers who took down the shooter, james von brunn. they all received shield awards from the antidefamation league. we still have plenty straight ahead. your weather, traffic and all of your top stories coming up. good morning. it is 4:30 on this tuesday morning as we take a live look over the washington, d.c. monument. a little bit chilly out there you may notice and also some rain in the area depending on where you are. tucker will talk about that here in just a moment. i'm sarah simmons in for gurvir dhindsa. let's get to tucker barnes with your weather. we've got some rain in the area to deal with. >> yeah, got some rain showers across the region. i think the worst of the rain showers will be just to our north during the morning hours. i will show you what is going on out there. you will be able to see the rain falling across the area there. we go. you can see just off to the north of the city, just on the north side of the beltway up towards gaithersburg, clarksburg, getting a little rain shower. most of virginia here with the exception of northern virginia in the clear. we have cloudy skies but it is not raining for you. have had a few flashes of lightning as well. let's go to the other computer and i will show you the bigger picture. you see it tracking very quickly across the maryland- pennsylvania border. it is moving so quickly, we'll actually be back out in the sunshine as we get into the afternoon. so this is not an all bad news forecast. 54 at reagan national. winds are breezy out of the north at 14 miles per hour. plenty of clouds for the start of the day and the possibility of a few showers and then we'll start to dry things out and increase the sunshine by later this afternoon with highs in the mid-60s. >> not too bad. let's see how the roads are looking. julie wright is in with your on- time traffic. >> really spotty with that rain because out of gaithersburg, it was coming down in buckets and we had the lightning that we were dealing with. i could hardly see my hand in front of my face, it was coming down that hard. so obviously, no roadwork between rockville and gaithersburg. once i hit the beltway, there wasn't a drop anywhere. nice and clear on both loops as you travel between college park and 270. nice easy road on the bw parkway. traveling downtown, lanes are open. this is a live shot of been pen -- pennsylvania avenue and the sousa bridge. coming inbound off the toll road, there is no access to the inner loop right now. you have to follow the detour that will take you southbound onto the beltway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. a man was shot and killed overnight in the petworth area of d.c. it happened at georgia avenue. police are still on the scene and that is where stacy cohan has the latest details for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this did happen around 1:00 a.m. the roadway was closed for the past several hours. it just reopened with police wrapping up their investigation. they got the call for the shooting about 1:00 in the morning. this was not originally reported as a homicide. word came later that the victim had died. this is the second shooting in this area o september 25th, there was another shooting in which a 19-year-old was killed. no suspect now and no motive for the shooting at this point. georgia avenue which had been closed town for much of the overnight hours has been reopened and police have cleared the scene. one person was confirmed shot and killed in this section of georgia avenue in the petworth neighborhood overnight. investigators are talking to a man they believe hit two teenagers on a motor scooter and then left the scene. he turned himself in to police nearly 1 hours after the accident on viers mill road. witnesses say the motor scooter was hit from behind and the man driving did stop but then took off. police say the silver mercedes has extensive damage as you can see here. both teens were badly hurt. >> you have to remember that a car versus a pedestrian, a bicycle or a motor scooter results in significant injury because there is not any protection. >> the 19-year-old driver is in serious but stable condition and the 16-year-old passenger is in critical condition. investigators are still trying to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved here. an elderly woman is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus. this happened yesterday morning in arlington as she was trying to cross south eighth and carlin springs road. there were 12 children on board the bus at the time. none of them were hurt. the search is expected to continue again today for a boater who went missing on the occoquan reservoir over the weekend. 65-year-old julia shew's boat was found downstream. they have been forced to suspend search efforts when it gets dark outside. jury select is under trial in the chandra levy murder trial. ingmar guandique is accused of attacking the intern years ago. sixteen people will be chosen as 12 jurors and four alternates. the trial is expected to last up to five beaks. the parents of a d.c. high school student are demanding answers after a bizarre incident left their son fighting for his life. the 17-year-old senior at mckinley tech was critically hurt when he fell four stories from an atrium during a home coming celebration. maureen umeh has latest. >> reporter: an emoaghtal janice and kenneth blake leave mckinley high school after looking at a videotape of an accident involving their 17- year-old son. they say it shows just two frames of the mckinley tech senior climbing over a balcony in the school's atrium and falling four stories on to the marble floor. others who saw the tape say it doesn't appear he was pushed or was playing around. >> i don't think we're there. i don't think we've got ton where we need to be in understanding what happened -- gotten to where we need to be in understanding what happened. >> >> reporter: kion was attending the home coming but witnesses say he left and ended up on the atrium on the opposite side of the school. he broke away from a school administrator and ran. there are reports he may have been high on marijuana. >> there is speculation of drug use. but kion was in the a drug user. that is the whole issue. >> reporter: the blakes say if their son did take drugs, they want to know where he got them and where the supervision was during the dance. >> if kion was under any influence or any suspicion of being under the influence of anything, someone should have been here as an adult. there was not a chaperone. there was not any administrator, any security. >> reporter: ward five councilmember harry thomas also saw the videotape and says from what he can tell so far, the school seems to have taken appropriate precautions. >> i have seen that most measures were in place. that is what i want to make sure that the safety measures were there to protect the child. >> reporter: the blakes say she won't stop looking for answers until they really know what happened to their son. >> it is a gift that he is living now. >> reporter: maureen umeh, fox 5 news. a [ male announcer ] it's time. love your heart so you can do what you love. cheerios. monster typhoon megi hit the philippines yesterday killing at least seven people. the category five storm packed winds of up to 140 miles per hour. the winds brought down many trees and power lines. heavy rains caused severe flooding around there and the now category two storm is expected to make landfall in vietnam and china later on this week. an elderly maryland woman thought for dead was actually alive and now police in anne arundel county are trying to figure out how this happened. the woman died over the weekend and her death is raising some questions. john rydell has the details. >> reporter: ken terry has nothing but praise for 89-year- old ruth johnson. he has known her for nearly 10 years. neighbors became worried as her mail piled up. >> went over there, rang the doorbell, banged on the door, couldn't get any response. >> reporter: when police responded, they found miss johnson on the floor of her bathroom. she said scherr skin was blue, she wasn't breathing and they spelled an odor they described as a decomposing body. >> you could have laid there for three days. >> reporter: police started contacting relatives and three hours later, an employee from the state anatomy board arrived to pick up what he thought was a body. but he noticed that the woman was breathing and moving her arm. it wasn't until 3 1/2 hours after police first discovered ruth johnson that she was transported and she was later found to be alert and unstable but still unsure about what happened. the state anatomy board says miss johnson died this weekend at a nearby hospice. anne arundel county police are conducting an internal investigation into the incident. >> when officers go to the scene, they must summons medical attention for that person. >> the fact she was laying on the floor for all that time and little one week i didn't check on her was the week that all this happened. now to a warning before you log onto facebook this morning. you may want to stay way from the popular apps. coming up next, the latest risk to your personal information facebook even if you have the highest privacy setting. you will want to watch this one. we'll tell what you you should and should not be doing. >> we've got rain showers moving across the area. i'll have all the details just in case. julie wright will have a look at your on-time traffic as well. all of that coming up in just a few short minutes. raspberry cheesecake... ...yeah, every night its something different. oh yeah yeah...she always keeps them in the house. no no no, i've actually lost weight... i just have a high metabolism or something... ...lucky. little bit wet in the roadway in some areas. let's get the latest from tucker barnes with more on our forecast and still some rain for some folks. >> parts of the year, particularly north of the city. south of the city, just cloud cover and cool temperatures. we even have some embedded thunderstorm activity this morning. we'll get right to it and show you the rain showers that continue to fall across the northern tier of our viewing area. not too far away here. you can see it just not north and west up towards 270 as mentioned towards gaithersburg and clarksburg, up towards damascus and up into howard county here out towards sykesville and that part of the world. all of this pushing very quickly from west to east an can you see more rain showers back towards leesburg, reston, charlestown. if you are on the south side of the city down into virginia, down into southern maryland, you probably wouldn't see much but i can't rule out the possibility of a few showers for you. then things should start to quiet down a little later this afternoon. and watch what is in motion here. sorry, we're losing the frames here. we've watched this area of low pressure develop along the little stationary front which is just to the south. they will get out of here as we get into the late morning hours and then we should see a return to some sunshine this afternoon. so if you are heading in there, you will see a little sun and warmer temperatures around here by early afternoon. 54 at reagan national. temperatures comparable to where they were yesterday. 56 in quantity you co. not bad in annapolis. 54 in leonardtown. you are 54 degrees as well. today, with the cloud cover and early rain, probably mid-60s so a few degrees cooler than yesterday. 64degrees with winds out of the north at five miles per hour. later tonight, another little impulse will ride along the stationary boundary and we'll see a few more showers during the overnight showers. overnight low, 50 in town. 40s off to the north and west. five-day forecast, we do it again tomorrow. maybe by tomorrow afternoon, we'll get a return to sunshine. we quiet things down. thursday, friday, saturday, plenty of sunshine. nice fall-like feel out there with highs generally in the mid- 60s. right now, friday and saturday look great. let's get to on-time traffic with julie wright. it has to be quieter than yesterday. >> so far. we are anxious to see what impact if any this rain has on our commute. right now, you are absolutely right. it's lot quieter than it was this time yesterday morning. lanes are open around the capital beltway. dry pavement for the most part. 270 itself, ien countered all of this on high trip in. this is father hurley boulevard. you will find that in some areas, the rain is coming down in buckets. the lanes are open in fight of the wet pavement. by the time you hit rockville, it seems like the rain has dissipated and you find dry pavement again on the beltway traveling between 270 and college park. 395 not so busy. lane are open at the wilson bridge and northbound 95 in maryland, checking for an accident near the exit for 32. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. the heroes of the holocaust shooting relive the day they came under attack. >> i looked to my right and i saw simi valleyen run past me. i looked to my right and i saw the barrel of the rifle firing into the building. at that point, i got on my knee and returned fire. >> the two officers who took down the shooter and the officer who gave his life saving countless people were honored last night. will thomas has the story. >> reporter: our newsroom phones just lit up that day, june 10, 2009. reports of gunfire at the holocaust museum, an officer down, a suspect shot. monday night, a who's who of washington area law enforcement gathered to honor some of the heroes that day including the officer would lost his life, officer steven johns. now, in their own words, two of the officers who saved countle lives remember that day. they received shield awards from the antidefamation lead. >> i heard a bang. i thought a balloon popped. i looked to my right and i saw steven run past me. i saw a barrel of a rifle firing into the building and at that point, i got on my knee and returned fire. i shot through the window. he was outside. >> heard a loud bang. knew it wasn't normal. harry dropped to his knee. i went right over top of him and returned fire. >> reporter: you are here being honored as heroes. are you comfortable with that? >> it is hard to come to these things. but like i told harry, i said we have to go there. otherwise, johns isn't recognized. if he we show up, we can praise johns. he did his job. he deserves much more than we to. >> johns is the real hero. we are still alive. we did our jobs and it is nice to be praised and thanked. i wish he was still here. i wish i wouldn't have to be here tonight. he comes from a beautiful family, has a beautiful son. >> reporter: the death of von brunn, not standing trial, how does that sit with you? >> i would have liked to have seen it go to trial just to see what would have come of it. >> it was a suicide mission on his part. he wanted to die that day. it is a good thing he didn't die right away because he lived and he suffered. >> anybody that wears a shield, whether it's firefighter or the military or the police department, anybody like that, everybody is a hero. >> there were some others that stayed at their post and evacuated that building and did an incredible job. one is todd green, david reynolds, kevin hamilton and philip wiser. >> reporter: steven johns' mother and son received the award in his honor. time magazine reported this month von brunn originally wanted to kill white house senior advisor david axelrod. apparently, he viewed axelrod a priority target because he was easier to reach than president obama. now to new concerns over facebook privacy. it turns out the site's 10 most popular apps are still sharing users' personal information to outside advertisers. now, can you protect yourself by not playing the games or taking those little quizzes on there. you can edit your privacy settings for apps an web sites to turn off all platform apps. facebook is working to fix the problem. bank of america is planning to resume foreclosures in 23 states next week and it will refile the paperwork for more than 100,000 cases. but the company will tea lay about 0,000 foreclosures in other states. the bank had put a temporary stop on all foreclosures after employees admitted they signed documents without reading them. analysts say things could get worse before they get better. >> we haven't hit bottom in the foreclosure market because there is such a
