This is going on consistently with the fire start around 9 30 yesterday morning and building im told is not safe to enter. No fire personnel or investigative personnel will be going anywhere near inside of that building because theyre definitely worried about Structural Integrity and worried about the possibility of collapse with so much water in the building. Its not that youre boasting or, you know, being ego maniac but you have to ex sued confidence if you want people to follow you. See im going to stop you right there and say that i feel like like the Corporate American needs to get on board with this. Because i believe sometimes when you are confident and you speak up for yourself the backlash comes and sometimes you have to balance whether thats worth it or not. Fire crews found a man unconscious inside that apartment he was pronounced dead a short time developing in Prince Georges county this morning fire crews continue to put out hot spots in a massive Apartment Building fire in college park. Its been almost 24 hours since those flames first started. Fire caused millions of dollars in damage at the building which was set to open in just a few months. Reporter steve and all allison, its hard to believe that weve been here since a little before 4 00 oclock this morning and they are still continuing with those water cannons. You can see not only on the front of the building, front corner but also the back corner, too. It looks like theyre bringing that one down right now. Weve seen other Prince Georges county fire trucks come in for relief. They really are trying to keep as many assets as possible here on scene while still also being able to deal with countys other fire and emergency priorities because really are concerned about the Structural Integrity of this building. No one is a loud inn sigh right now. Not just from the fire damage but also problems with all of that water. The building is a city block long. Now yesterday i talked inside saying pretty much everybody was lucky to get out of this fire, because there were no smoke alarms and no sprinklers so really they had to pass the word to each other about the fact there was an active fire going on. You can see it as it started that was 9 30 in the morning on that Little Corner and then here an hour later, despite all of the efforts of Prince Georges county police and 200 other firefighters who came here to the seen from all across the area to try to battle this blaze, at one point they had to sound an alarm that pulled all fire personnel out of the building and crews could do nothing more than attack it from the outside. Use the police had he copter air one that was able to get up and give us an aerial view their video was streamed into this vehicle here so we got pretty good idea of what was burning. Reporter and you can see the structure of that building, too, and a filled the College Park Route 1 corridor thats the university of maryland campus that shot that video yesterday as we were leaving. And this picture as well. And that is what actually forced the closure of classes at the university of maryland at 1 00 oclock yesterday because of bad air quality. There were several dozen Senior Citizens also who had to evacuate their apartments because of that air quality. They were allowed back in at 7 00 oclock last night. Now, one of the things that definitely caused some issues here is the way this building is designed. Its almost in a circle like a rectangle with a courtyard in the middle and we were told by fire officials it was very difficult for them to get access to the back of the building because of the way its designed. And so i asked the question as to whether that would cause problems in the future with the way its designed, and they said once the building is occupied, then there would be certain features they would have to add to this building to make it fire safe. They do believe that it according to design, but certainly one of those things cause problems for firefighters trying to knock this down yesterday. Yes, were along route 1 and triple a says this speed camera is saving lives, but they also call it outrageous in the negative and thats because, yes, it gets people to slow down as you see here theyre crossing right between Fraternity Row and the campus and in the past three years, aaa says theres not been one Pedestrian Fatality crossing route 1 from the residential area to the c the speed cameras here in college park. Before these went 24 7, a few years ago there had been a few pedestrian fatalities in short order. But aaa says the private company that runs and operates this speed cameras is making too much money. We can show you what aaa is talk about in the last three years, the city of college park according to aaa has brought in 4. 9 million from its speed cameras. But the private vendor has also made 3. 4 million. Triple calls that outrageous because for each 40dollar ticket the vendor collects 15 and 60 cents triple s. A says motorists believe that is highway robbery. General assembly outlawed per ticket fees and so starting on june 1st, the company that runs the speed cameras here in college park will only be allowed to charge a flat fee and not a per ticket fee and something that federal Highway Administration is also encouraged saying that you want to take away the incentive the conflict of interest for the private company that is make money each time camera flashes. So again saving lives but according to aaa misdirecting profits to the private company on a per tick basis which goes away in about a month and a h half. Guys. All right. And i have always thought since i was of drinking age that that made you want to drink more and it was good for the business, but what it turns out to be is that its not going to make you drink more its going to make you eat more. Youll get some french fries, get some hamburger or something because what happens when you have a lot of salt in take the body produces a compound known as urea what these researchers have found that this compound makes you retain the water and get rid of the salt. This is something new and interesting because to make that urea, your body goes through a lot of machinery and it makes you hungry. So this research in how we plan on getting to mars some day really is coming down to, hey, were going to have to p food on the spacecraft and worry less about the amount of fluids that we might need to give the astronauts. You know what else makes me hungry, dr. Mike . Seeing all that video of those french fries repeatingly gook that cup. They look delicious. [ laughter ] why, dr. Mike, you said youve been thinking since you were younger. Weve always thought this it was make ugh thirsty, not hungry. Why did it take so long and why now for this research to come to light . Well, space travel really has a lotted to with advancement of science. And so when youre thinking about, hey, how can we get astronauts from here to mars. Its a long, long trip. And a lot of calculations have to go into this and so people look into things like this. Scientists then explore the potential. What actually is happening here and they go research and they found that thought of as just a waste product is actually important. Its just like tonsils and adenoids we used to take them out back in the 50s just haphazardly. The bottom line theres a reason why things are there. And so nature and science all come together and theres always a reason. Its fascinating stuff. Fascinating. Bottom line is, when youre eating that salty stuff just basically be aware that you might want to grab and pack on the calories with other foods its something i had never thought about, but now thanks to you, dr. Fox news channels senior meteorologist janice dean has shared personal information with viewers before such as earlier diagnosis more than a decade ago in fact with multiple sclerosis. Now, shes opening up about a cosmetic procedure that left part of her face temporarily paralyzed. What happened was i guess the laser heated up part of my facial nerve and i had temporary paralysis right here and who knew that a procedure on your neck could affect your face . So part of my mouth, my lip was almost gone. I had problems talking. I had problems chewing. Janice dean joins us now from new york with more on her very personal journey. Good morning to you. Good morning. Thank you for having me today. How are are you completely recovered n now . Im about 95 there. I still have, you know a little bit of a lip issue but as far as talking. As far as eating and chewing and that kind of thing, ive got full functional will the if thats a word. But certainly the last couple of months have been interesting to say the least. I wasnt expecting the out come. I got to ask you, you know, cosmetic surgery is one of those things especially for us ladies of a certain age we like to keep on the weekend and come back and, oh, dont you look refreshed. Why, yes, i do and thats all we say. But youve been completely forthcoming with your journey. Why . Well, i mean listen this was not the out come that i expected. I started my job with fox and friends in november, and then i go and get this procedure like you said on a thursday expecting to come back on a monday or a tuesday and, you know, eight weeks have passed and i havent been able to come on air. So like you mentioned, ten years ago, i came on fox and friends and told diagnosed with multiple sclerosis thats probably the most revealing thing ive ever brought to the viewers atte attention. Not be transparent a lot of women arc lot of men, have these, you know, procedures done now a days. Theyre relatively easy to get access. Weve got botox and fillers and lasers and things that freeze the fat blow your chin. Those kinds of things are becoming more accessible. And a lot of people are going and having them done but what i wanted to say is that they come with risks. I signed a whole bunch of sheets with my initials and my signature and one of the, you know, possible complications was this facial paralysis that happened. To be quite honest with you, i didnt even read the fine print and thats why im sort of coming forward so that other people can learn from my mistakes. And you know what, janice, surely you are not alone. Would that be your take home message for all of us, some of these elective surgeries perhaps we dont read the fine print here. Versus a major surgery that your doctor says you have to get. I absolutely think that should be the bottom line. Like i said, ive talked to so many women and men that have wanted to do this kind of procedure like i said its an in and out procedure. Youre in the doctors office. Its under an hour. And you come out thinking that all a sudden Something Like your neck is going to look like you were as a teenager. And thats not necessarily the case. There are risks and there are complications and more and more im starting to hear these things. So my advice to you is if you are going to do these things talk to your doctor. Get a second opinion. Talk about the worse Case Scenario. Unfortunately, i was, you know, one of those people that signed my name. Right. I was the one to 2 that this has happened to. So you know thats the word of caution. Listen im all about being the best that you can be and improving on things we dont like about ourselves. But just know that what youre right. You know youre also not alone with looking at other people and saying, wow, well, they look so great. I could do that, too. You credit Christie Brinkley with that moment for you that you thought, wow look at Christie Brinkly at 63. Absolutely. And she has admitted to having lasers and fillers these magic wands that we go into the doctors office, and she has a lot of great lighting like we have on tv. Weve got great makeup artists and hair artists and great lighting in the studio. But these things are becoming more accessible and people are learning about them, but i think they look too easy sometimes. And you know ive been having bow tock for a couple of years now. I like the results of that. I think thats an easy way to sort of m minimize the creases in our foreheads and our little laugh lines but you know what, what ive realized is maybe we should focus less on our flaws and more about our positives and my positives include my smile and i smile from this procedure. 100 its coming back thats what my doctor tells me. But what i realized is when i come home from work each day and my kids see me and they see my big smile, thats all they care about. They dont care about, you know, the neck issue which ive been, you know, worried about since i was, you know, teenager. Right. Lets focus on the positives instead of the flaws. Lets do that indeed.
