Reporter tomorrow on the 15th anniversary of 9 11 people will gather here at the veteran war memorial where recovered from one of the twin towers sits. Its journey here is one of patriotism. This piece of steal still attached came to wisconsin in 2011. Joe campbell and retired battalion chief drove out to new york. They picked up the piece of 9 11 steal. Reporter it had been written little white truck with a big mission. A nonprofit that supports Service Members says it was written to help parents and teachers talk about the events of that tragic morning. But a lot of people think about that tragedy. It was a tremendous loss, but its also about what took place after, and its that hope that message of united we stand. Each year around the anniversary of 9 11 teams of milwaukee firefighters, officers and Service Members are helping childr freedom, purpose and unity. Deputy aaron says equally important to the books are deliveries. All these fifth graders will have a chance to interact on a pretty personal level with a firefighter with a marine, someone from the navy. You cant just let it fade away. We have to keep this memory alive. Reporter molly believes sharing its journey helps reminded people that freedom is not free. And west on the 92nd floor of the north tower. There are several events taking place across and in milwaukee mayor tom barrett and county executive chris ably will attend a Memorial Ceremony at the War Memorial Center at 7 30 a. M. Pierce manufacturing and the Green Bay Fire Department held participants climbed 110 stories. The same height as the World Trade Center towers. All funds raised through that climb go back to the National Firefighters foundation. And First Responders are teaming up with the blood center of wisconsin for a 9 11 remembrance blood drive. More than 400 firefighters, Police Officers and paramedics who rushed into the World Trade Center died when the twin towers collapsed on september 11th. If you donate blood before september 16th youll receive a special commemorative tshirt. Many will head to 9 11 memorials to honor those who lost their lives. Several memorials in this new england that pay tributes to new york, washington and pennsylvania. Reporter if you look quick you may not notice it, but outside the entrance to the bristol fire station this small piece of mangled steal has a big story to tell. It has special meaning to the town and the state. Reporter the piece perhaps fittingly displayed in bristol. And i have personally viewed many citizens and visitors of the community that have stopped, looked at this. Reporter 26milesmiles and another state away a different display outside the fire department, along with this large piece of trade center steal, the memorial also has this piece of the if facade of e pentagon and this rock from the field in pennsylvania. We will never forget, and i doubt very muchon reporter while the memorial display very classy, very respectful, but theres even more to it that meets the eye. From the base of this monument to the highest point on the steal is 9 feet 11 inches tall. Also this top corner here that points directly to the World Trade Center site in new york. The work on the sculpture and other displays all donated. In fact everything you see was the grass and flowers surrounding it. Both displays a powerful tribute to a tragedy still too fresh in our minds. We honor the sacrifice that that department made. You may encounter some rain drops through the next 1520 minutes. This is all going to dissipate rather rapidly. If youre not seeing any of those rain drops, and most of us are not were seeing skies like this from our tower cam. And you can see just a smattering of clouds out there. But plenty of blue as well, and once that sunsets get ready for depart. The winds will drop down. It was really blustery with winds gusting 2030 miles an hour.
