. . Good morning everybody. Happy monday. I always wonder after closing ceremonies and this like incredible olympics if people are experiencing withdrawal . I do i love the olympics. Its so much fun to watch and i think its fun how they stagger the most interesting ones towards the end. No matter what you cant stop watching. Cover of Sports Illustrated thees gat katie simone biles in here too. They talk about Michael Phelps in particular. The most decorated olympian ever. How about when he was doing this like come on give it up. Exactly. Just how it was a proper farewell for him. Just such different set of games for him because you know instead of you know, he said london was kind of like going through the motions and rio it was like his wife was there the former miss california, his baby great to see. I get to watch some abroad because i took a vacation. Went to ireland, london and paris. We got to watch the olympics while being abroad. I got to tell you ireland this is a picture i have not boosted the color or edited this is naturally how green it was. This was a castle on the cliffs of moore. I just thought, i never had seen the color of green of ireland in my entire life. It was the one thing that stood i think thats the thing people can talk about it before you go, but until you get there you cant truly appreciate the green. And look at that. This is a boat ride we took in paris on the river. We got up close and personal to the eiffel tower. I didnt realize until being there that it twinkled like that every hour. Wait for this one and b that i would just be so impacted by that and london, cool thing this was a harp. We have a harp here too. The one thing i learned about you can have your glasses out there and everything i thought it was so fun. It was a blast. It was totally different. That was in london. Everybody stands on the street in the pub. I realize you dont know how little you know until you go abroad. Yeah thats true. And just getting that perspective. Who knew French Onion Soup is only onion soup in france. I do now. I do now. [laughter] what was your favorite part . No way to pick a favorite. T there was probably a favorite part in france everyone does go around eating a giant baguette. And the croissants are nothing like you have ever had in your life. All day long. Its crazy. Wine and croissants because you walk everywhere. Thats why. Welcome back to america. Thank you. Thank you. Before we head on with the show we have todays arts cameras plus picture of the day. Featuring a tired papa. This is just the beginning. Loyal viewer cathy shared this photo of her son john look at them apparently he is exhausted after all of that hard labor right . Exactly. [laughter] that is so cute. Oh. Having twins. I dont know. Give it up for him. And the momma. Thats amazing. Great picture. We love to share your photos here on the morning blend. If you have someone special you would like to see featured on tv be sure to enter our picture of the day contest. Email us their photos and story to pictures themorningblend. Com. First up this morning, b 2007 two local pastors became overwhelmed after watching a episode of oprahs big give. They were inspired to take action and help one of the most impoverished cities in the nation, milwaukee. Since then they have served over 45,000 people in the city and now expanding their outreach to waukesha. They ha have enlisted the help f one of our favorite friends leroy butler. Were thrilled to have leroy butler and melvin and Ervin Henderson to the morning blend. Together at the waukesha give. Thanks for being here you guys. Thank you for having us. Hanging out with this guy huh . They are doing all of the work. This is something you have been doing for a while. I feel like a lot of people have moments where they see something and are so deeply impacted. They think i want to do Something Like that. I want to create change that way. Thats really how this started for you two. It really is. I was laying on the couch one day watching laying on the couch thinking man i would love to give at that level. The thought came to me just give at the level youre at. We went back to the congregation and said lets do something significant. Lets make an impact and at that time milwaukee was listed as the 7th most impoverished big city in the nation. We partnered with larry jones and feed the children and they brought in cases of food for 400 families which would give us the ability to feed 1600 people in just that one feeding. Was birthed from there. Its an amazing outreach. So were happy. Really glad you got to some of the numbers. The proof is in the numbers. Its incredible you go to your congregation, relatively small, 150 people and at the time raise 12,000 and had a semitruck full of food. Thats impressive. I think that should give people hope if you want to make a difference. Its possible. Absolutely. I think people think to make a difference you have to have a lot. You really dont. Its what is in y you can give to benefit somebody else. Thats what we did we just brought all of our resources together and we were blessed to be able to come one 12,000. Went to feed the children and said how much will this give us they said a whole truck full of food we were like great. We still brought in food, but it was amazing. I like that quote give where you are at. Such an important thing to remember. So often we feel like we cant do enough, but even just a little makes a big difference. This has meant this to my life . It has been amazes. Hope is what our city needs. Were at a place of hoplessness. Anytime somebody can help without strings attached. Were not saying come to our church. Were not saying any of that. Were just here to help you. It has changed the life of a lot of people. Weve had a lost people say because you helped i want to come to your church, but thats not the reason we do what we do. We do it because this is our city. We have taken ownership of it and want to doet one year we were doing the give and there was a woman who her husband had just put her and her three children out. We were scheduled to host the give in milwaukee that morning. So she is walking down the street with her kids and here we are with everything that she needs to get her life on the road again and so, those are the kind of testimonies that we have of success for the give. What is your role in this whole thing are you leaping over stuff to help them or . Milwaukee. I love this community, i love what it stands for. I love the fact that pastors like this want to put something forward for the community. Its fantastic. Thats the reason i wanted to get involved. My executive assistant netty prairie she wanted me to get involved in it. It worked out fantastic. Im going to be at pick n save in washington anyway so i can do two things at one time. I want people to come out take a look at what is going on can donate fantastic if you cant just come see what is going on. I think you will be amazed this is goingn right here in the milwaukee area and waukesha your i think you will be amazed. I think its important for people with a background in faith to get iolved in this, but it doesnt matter your faith if you have faith or dont if you are involved in a church or not. Its just the fact you are there is no commitment to be. Involved with your church, but how can people get involved when people. What can they do . All you need to do is give us a call at our office at 414 9620600. They can go to world outreach btc. Org. The milwaukee give is on facebook. They can look it up on facebook and put in there they are interested in getting involved the more the merrier. Do you need volunteers for that day . Absolutely we need volunteers for folding clothes, distributing clothes we dont do anhing in advance. We ask people to bring the well be in waukesha at horeb park. This saturday the 27th. They can bring whatever they want to give away. Its amazing you think it is something you no longer put any value on it becomes a real value to someone else. So they can bring their goods and if they want to get involved and stay and help us distribute the clothing they can. Mostly or only clothing that you are looking for . What about nonperishable food anyone wants to donate yes. Household items, food, clothing whatever they want to give yeah. Ou y know, but the items are really the hook. What we really want to do is we want to have people out there who can listen. Because a lot of time when is people are out there hurting they just want to talk to somebody about it. We also need volunteers to just be ears not necessarily have the answers, but just be ears to help us that way as well. What a neat thing. Just to be able to go there and listen to stories help hand things out. I think what you are doing is really wonderful. I can tell why you love being involved too. No question about it. Think milwaukee right now is getting a bad rep nationally. This is a chance to bring the Community Together and do something fun. And you are going to help give away bicycles too right . I think i can still ride one. [laughter] because in the olden days, they would give you the ride around lambeau field. Can come out to see you leroy. August 27, this saturday. The dropoff starts at 7 00 a. M. So from 7 00 to 9 00 a. M. You can drop off donations. The event is happening from 10 00 to 1 00 p. M. That is Horeb Spring Park on spring street in waukesha. Brings clothes, shoes, furnishings. Two new bike give aways. An opportunity for people to receive donations as well. To find out more and leroy will where he will meet people and be part of giving away bikes which is super fun. World outreach btc. Org is the website to visit for more information. Pleasure to meet all of you. Thank you for having us. Well be doing a packer preview i will back in a couple weeks f that. Yeah weve got to talk football. Were ready. Its mans season now. [laughter] all right. Oh, lord. [laughter] thanks guys. So nice to meet you. Disabled people to get the benefits they deserve. And youre never too old for braces how kids and adults are getting a better smile in less time. And the three things your teenager can do right now to and welcome back. This, a kid heading to college with a car packed to theim with stuff. I think it was me at one point. Everything is essential to dorm life, but it can be dangerous to drive that way. College campus or carpooling to high school, there are new road challenges. The National Safety council says more children are hit by cars near schools than any other location. Were joined with anne scallon with before the wheel a online resource that puts your teen safelyo good to see you. Nice to see both of you. I alwayshink is good timing for you to be here now i realize no matter what time it is its a good time to talk about what was challenges are out there. Lets start with the back to college the going to high school, the carpooling. Oftentimes a difficult situation in part i think because going to college it might be a first time experience. There is a lack of you know, because theyve never done it being. Right so as far as packing the car its essential that the College Student does not drive with an overpacked car. Because things that are overpackedhey block the view. Yes. Or you have large items like tvs that can fall forward. You need things propey secured. The trunk can also not be overpacked because then it fish tails when you go onto the ramp. So sometimes its have a sibling or the parents take two cars or get a uhaul its really worth it. Uhhuh. A lot of times you got all of that going on and you are distracted while driving. Like maybe you said something falls or youre texting or the music is too loud because youe excited to be going to college or back to school whatever it may be. Distractions happen and those are things that people need to beware of right. Right. Also too the passengers. Like, what i like to say is sit going to be a passenger in a carpool or back to school. The two things i have found is what they have told me they dont want to tattle tale and they dont want to speak up. They are caught in the middle. If this is a carpool and this is happening tell your teen you can tell me this carpool isnt working out you dont need to go into the details. Sometimes its their sibling. Thats what makes itorse. Yeah. [laughter] its like maybe you cant get out of that situation, but again you dont want to tell on them sister. Thats why they have to say its not working out mom and dad and you have had enough conversations to get the message that the other psonsnt doing what they need to be doing. Maybe not even saying exactly what is happening if they feel bad about tattling, but saying its just not working out. Good way to do it. Its important to discuss the way traffic is changing. Maybe the level ofraffic as we go back to school. Right. So there is going to be a lot more buses. In the summer we get a lot of we have summerfest and sta fair a ofther festivals, but then weave tten ud to the morning drive is lower people are on vacation you dont have the school buses and carpools thats going to change the next two weeks. The key is really to Pay Attention, be courteous and slow down. Its so important. Yeah. Going with the carpool thing too, one of the problems is that a lot of people are running late. And so thats when speeding is really a problem a lot o one reason for speeding isnumber because people are running late. Uhhuh. Lets say your School Starts at 7 45 it takes you 20 minutes. You need to leave about 40 minutes for the first couple weeks. Everybody else is new to the dropoff and everything. Uhhuh. There so you have to not only accommodate yourself, and all of the changes, and all of the signs weve been ignoring like 15 to 25 when school is in session. I have b ignoring that for attention again. And weather has beenright and sunny its going to be ng mgie rain. Exactly. Good point. Also there is t protionary license period i think a lot of tes are all too quick to forget. The length of that and exactly what that means. It has to do with how many passengers you can have in the car if not related to. Were talking about friends. That goes for 9 months after the teen has gotten that initial license. A lot of times not only the teens areisinformed, but the parents are. They are like oh, that doesnt apply to the carpool. It very much alies to the carpool. So, they again, that person can only take one extra passenger and your teen needs to find another carpool if they already have that one in the. Uhhuh. I think part of being a testifiedefensive driver is whau call being courteous. The problem on the road, utr other people. If youre not courteous and sothing that is impornt right. Following just the flow of traffic and things like that. Those sorts of things can be defensive and courteous and put you in a better place to be safe. Right and the dropoff thing sometimes you want to take a short c cut. You have to drop off a younger child youre a teen you have to get to your high school. Youre like lets just go over here. There is no safety set up over there. You have to put in your time to go through the dropoff and do all of the the risk is very high. Almost 30 of the pedestrian accidents fatalities happen in the fall. Hmm. That dropoff lines, iorget about those. They are tricky. We all have to be paying attention and letting buses unload. Those three things were slow down, Pay Attention and be courteous. I think those are key things we can keep in mind no matter what the season as we head back to school and college as well. Free, they can visit your website at before the wheel. Com. So more resrch and how to have that conversation wit your young driver. Great to s you. Thank you. Thank you. Its the first thinghat t people its been proven that children with better smiles dont get bull idea and so forth. People with prettier smiles get better jobs things like that. More dates. [laughter] more dates. For some people its very important. I found my bride so i dont need that anymore, but right. It is a way to express ourselves to the world who we are. Uhhuh. And it allows the world to see who we are truly inside for our smile. Lets talk they are different than tradit ortioldontics it is not just the amount of time involved thats different rig . No. Tradional though donetic o old school orthodontics spends a year moving part of the tooth that people can see the crown. In another year movine root of the tooth. Fast braces it is arian tlar shaped bracket rather than square, and what it does is moves the root and the crown of the tooth at the same time to its final position from the very traditional braces . Noctually it has been provenith the the largest dental school in the world has proven that fast braces are less comfortable than traditional bre. Would you back that up . I would back that up yeah. Traditional fast braces can weeks. Pleted in as little as 20 thats amazing. A lot of people see people with braces teenagers i parncular for years and years. 2, 3, 4 years yeah. What technology moves the ent tooth at the same time. The forces are spreadver t entire tooth continually it not only make it is more comfortable, but as i said we move the whole tooth at once so its faster. I dont spend aear doing one thing a anoer year doing the other thing. What about the other the fast braces turbo this happens even faster right . Fast braces turbo is a little more advanced technology that just does the same thing, but even quicker. More uncomfortable, but its not. Heres an exam example before and after. Thats after just 30 days. It amazed me. Im still amazed and i have been doing it for 15 years. Ts what i wasoing to ask. Do dens see it as a fad or do you see these kind of quick changes like aganin i this before and after, or is it something that really has been around for a whi. Fast braces have been aroun for 30 years. Its reall orthodontics and how we straighten teeth. General dentists and orthodontists all over the world. Itsn 40 countries i just got back from dallas last night from teaching how to do fast braces. Its amazing its just fascinating still again after so many years. I have been doing it for 12, 15 years Something Like that. Its been around for about 30. Changes lives right. What was your experience . What was the reason that you decided a little later in life used to sle with my whole mouth. Tony findy convinced me it was time to put the braces on. In a little over year i managed to have a smile and feel more confident. Got them off before my 50th birthday im very happy. How does it make you feel about yourself. Because this is actually your mouth right . I think that is my mouth. [laughter] you dont usually see it from that angle right . No. So h such a big thing thattony ofte. You obviouslyeel it. Definitely. And think i sle a lot more. I lookt myself i picres now im happier to have my picture taken. I never used to like to have my picture taken. Did the idea it took a lot less time than traditional braces is that something that really spoke to you and made you decide you would like to give it a try . Definitely. Its amazing that it can results permanent then . The results are so stable because what the technology does, different than traditional braces it makes sure that the roots are parallel. So with fast braces what fast if braces does you only have towary your retainers 15 minutes a day. I recommend to wear them over night, but 15 minutes is day is the minimum you have to wear them. Is it true your kids are seeing tony also for braces . Yes two are one and one is on his way. Thats fantastic. Its the whole family. The i love how you always make the point that it is scientific that people who have straight teeth do better in relationships and business and life. Anything you can do to make you feel better about who you are inside, and let the world see that, is going to help you do better if life. Youre going to have a happier life. Well when someone is unable to work because of injury, the physical pain isnt the only problem. Most People Struggle they may need support to get the benefits to help them on that road to recovery. Im here now with attorneys and partners in the tabak law firm. Thanks for being here. We were chatting about accidents. I was in one in december. I agree when youre in an accident youre injured or disabled, there are so many things that go into that. The physical, the emotional pain. Why did you get started in the school we had the fortune to start at a fairly small law firm. It has grown from 10 employee operation to 50 employees. The main reason and the reason why i feel so fortunate were able to help people. As you are well aware, when you do suffer an accident, or whether it be a workplace accident or automobile accident. Oftentimes disability does follow. Th certainly facing difficult times financially and physically. I think that joy of being able to help individuals while they are really at their lowest point is something that brought me into the law firm and made it easy for us to try to increase and continue our goal towards helping as many people as possible. You really do focus on that disability to help people. How did the law firm get started doing personal injury for many years. I think he saw when people have a car accident like alex is saying oftentimes they are out of work for a period of time. There are other benefits they might need. We do Workers Compensation, longterm disability, shortterm, personal injury all of those. I think it naturally evolved out of doing those personal injury cases. I think sometimes when you have an injury, you dont realize all of the benefits you really do deserve. And t with a law firm. Thats something you guys really do focus on is helping someone who has been disabled get those benefits right . Yeah and i think nobody expects to get hurt or have an accident it comes out of the blue. No one prepares for that. You cant always be prepared for that. A lot of people i have helped have never been through this process before. They are dealing with their own pain and physical or mental symptoms. Working through a legal system so were there to help them with that. Thats one of the things i found so overwhelming is all of the letters you get in the mail trying to keep up with it. Making sure youre getting all of the information. Not getting things you need help with. Just having someone on your side i think really benefits. You mentioned youre a small law firm. What do you think benefits and differentiates you from other law firms in town . I think one of the beautiful things of our law firm i primarily focus on Workers Compensation and prime example of a client were able to help was injured at work. There was a rollover accident. He was driving a vehicle and became disabled. This is where our law firm was able to step in and do a great job. This individual had a Workers Compensation claim because he was operating a work vehicle. In addition he was driving an automobile so there was a personal injury component. He was the injured victim in this. And lastly he was so injured he in and get him the benefits that were necessary for Social Security disability. We did an intal intake call wit. We realized there was a Workers Compensation component and personal component. We did the paperwork. We have a very streamlined process to get clients through. So in about three months were able to get this individual benefit, social secy month. In addition the Workers Compensation component takes sometime. There was not adenylate first, but, as is oftentimes the case the Workers Compensation Insurance Company made a denial. So we stepped in we were able to after a little bit of time about a year and a half get him the benefits for Workers Compensation and lastly we were able to get him benefits for personal injury and i know this money helped in getting him and his family back on the road. So it was devastating to the family, but very very inspirational and showed our law firm a great deal of gratitude in helping him get his feet on the ground and on a road to recovery. It sounds like you guys have a lot of success in helping people quickly. I know a lot of law issues can take years and the fact that on within a few months youre able to help him start getting back on his feet and get those things rolling. Really mean as lot to a family. That success rate is a big difference provide someone who is unable to work because of a disability . The first thing i always tell people is make sure you follow your Doctors Orders. I mean obviously your health and all of that is number one. And also, from my perspective legally the way im making my claim is based on the medical records and what the doctors tell me. Im not a doctor i have to go off what i see in the records. You got to follow your Doctors Orders and keep treating. Get the help you need well knowing can you take care of yourself, its going to be covered you got people helping you out means so much. The fact that you do these risk free no obligation disability and Workers Compensation case evaluations makes it easy. So all you need to do is call to do that. The phone number is 414 3514400 if you have been injured in an accident you want to talk to someone. It is risk free no obligation. You can help determine if youre eligible for all of these benefits including and disability as well. You are located on green bay avenue and thats tabak attorneys. Com for the website. Well tell you how to identify the problem and what can be done as a solution. And still ahead the cost of going to college is much more coming from books to gadgets coming from books to gadgets some of the great ideas to help my goal was to finally get in shape. Not to be focusing on my moderate to severe chronic plaque psoriasis. So i made a decision to talk to my dermatologist about humira. Humira works inside my body to target and help block a specific source of inflammation in clinical trials, most adults taking humira were clear or almost clear, and many saw 75 and even 90 clearance in just 4 months. Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened; as have blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. Before treatment, get tested for tb. Tell your doctor if youve been to areas patitis b, are prone to infections, or have flulike symptoms or sores. Dont start humira if you have an infection. Ask about humira, the 1 prescribed biologic by dermatologists. Welcome back. Today we are going to talk about joining us is paul stone a screener and diagnostic and her daughter anna who has erlyn. Paul maybe you can help us understand what it is . Its a visual processing disorder that has to do with how the brain processes light. Because the brain has a hard time processing different kinds distdistortions in the way a pen sees a text when reading and other things in the environment. This is really important. If you have a child who is avoiding reading thats one of the main symptoms or having trouble or difficulty reading they are going to be certain things your kids see in in looking at a page that other kid dont see. They might see things that look around. Some kids look at regular text thats what they see. No wonder they cant read. How does a parent know if they should have the child tested . The most common thing is a child that doesnt like to read. If you have a child avoiding reading or says they get headaches when they read or they are tired from reading. Then, they should start to question. The child what do you see when you are reading . Do the words move on the page . Thats the most common thing to look for. Its got to be so frustrating to try to read and be informed when words are moving around and waving, as a parent you dont know what your child sees as they are looking at a book or page . And when they look at their friends book it looks the same so they assume everybody is seeing it the way they are misdiagnosed with dyslexia . They can be misdiagnosed with adhd. It can cause behavior or fidgetiness or anxiety. These are the risk factors the reading difficulties so if kids skip words or lines, lose their place while reading, they repeat lines, they misread words they are choppy, their reading seems to deteriorate, or they reread for comprehension all again signs that they might be struggling with irlen syndrome and it causes discomfort. It can cause headaches like you mentioned. Sore eyes, difficulty with different shades of light. Its a spectrum disorder. Its a spectrum disorder. People can be mild to severe as far as if you are mild, this maybe affects your reading. Your environment is distorted. I want to talk about the treatment in a second. Thats why you brought colored pages. Chris is a friend of mine. She sent out an email to tonsf parents and said i want you to know my daughter anna was diagnosed with irlen syndrome. Now with the help of these colored glasses shes now able to read and have success in school like she never has been before. You have actually once sending that out to me i thought i never heard of this. Other friends of said, hey i took my child in and they were also diagnosed right . Yup. A good friend of mine that we carpool every week just happened to mention that she had taken her son in and he had irlen syndrome. I just asked the symptoms because i had never heard of it. I thought it was something much different than a reading issue. He had headaches in school, tried to avoid reading, did everything in his, could only read for ten minutes at a time and it sounded like anna and she within a week, i somewhat became an expert on irlens. And anna tell us, we looked at those pictures where the words were like wavy or they were moving. Is that what you would see when you look at words . Yeah. I bet that was frustrating in school. It was. Right . And did you kind of like get to a point in school where you wereike l i dont like to read. When i was supposed to there and go play outside instead of read. How did it feel once you got your special glasses . I started to read and i really started to enjoy it and then the words stopped moving on the page and then i just found books that i liked and now i just sit down and read. Thats got to be a wonderful feeling chris. It is. Its Pretty Amazing for her to read chapter books for 30 minutes at a time. Which is her goal for school each day. Thats awesome. These different pages because were running out of time. I want to mention the treatment is as simple as wearing these glasses. Once you are properly diagnosed and you do the spectrum of lht thing right . Correct. The first screening is to find what kind of color or combination of colors will help to stop the distortions on the page. When a client comes in to see me we go through a series of visual tests we figure out what the distortions are and we find the color that will help. Then you find match the glasses right . Whatever workforce the color glasses you need. Good for you for sharing with so many people and helping other people get the same treatment. Paula people can find out more by calling at 248 8902341 or go to irlen. Com. driver wah, wah, wah, wah. . .
