A wouldbe robber is finally out of the hospital, according to police after he was shot by a store clerk in newport news. Now he s on his way to jail. But newschannel three has learned he s being charged with a lot more than just that attempted robbery. Only Erica Greenway has the new details. Documents as detectives started to investigate that case they learned Sylvester Lipscombe could be connected to as many as seven other business robberies in the area going back to march of last year and ending with that attempted robbery last month. Surveillance video outside a newport news metro pcs store shows a man walking in then about twenty minutes later, getting wheeled out on a stretcher. According to Court Documents that man is Sylvester Lipscombe shot by a clerk when he tried to rob the store. This happened in late december. Now for the first time we re learning that this is just one of several stores that lipscombe is believed to have robbed. According to a search warrant affidavit filed in newport news Court Detectives believe he could be connected to seven other robberies at area businesses. Those robberies taking place at various stores in newport news hampton and suffolk. According to this affidavit one of those robberies was at a hampton checksmart. As a woman walked out of the store on west mercury boulevard Court Documents say lipscombe forced her back in at gunpoint and robbed the store. About three weeks after that police say he hit the metro pcs store on J Clyde Morris boulevard. The same store he tried to rob again just a few days later, according to police and where officers finally caught up to him. According to court paperwork lipscombe went into the store on december 28. As he ran toward the counter with a gun he was shot in the stomach by the clerk. It goes on to say after being shot lipscombe told the clerk the gun was fake and said quote i need the money, i have kids, let me go. Officers got there a short time later and he was taken to the hospital. He had been there ever since. But now, police say he is finally out of the hospital and in custody. Two people in Police Custody up a group of people on the Old Dominion University campus. Odu police tell us the two men were armed with handguns the victims told police the men held them up in a University Parking lot near killam avenue and 43rd street in norfolk.
