Russian jew i have only one child and i want him to grow up where he can be safe, where he can be proud that he is jewish. Feldman the essence of the existence of the state of israel is that this is a homeland for the jews because if israel would have existed just 15 years before it was founded in 1933, uh, there wouldnt be an auswitch or a dachau. Announcer world war ii, hitler, the holocaust. Holocaust survivor the nazi camp where i was a prisoner, went into that camp with me and at the endf the war only 536 of us were still alive. Everyone else was dead. They would just move. Its just, whatever you can do to help the peopleere. Announcer it is no wonder that when the doors of emigration opened, ndreds of thousands of jews who could never afford to pay for such a trip pray to one day reach israel. This is a great fear that i as jews continue to leave the former soviet union, it is critical that we work and that we pray and that we act while the doors of emigration are open. Announcer fear is increasing that the door to jewish emigration may once again close due to current instability and problems confronting the republics of the former soviet union. Indeed many of you may be familiar with that phrase of jewish tradition from the movie about the life of Oscar Schindler and how those he rescued engraved that phrase onto a ring that they made with the gold in their teeth, and they gave it to schindler as a token saving their lives. Well today we have an opportunity quite different indeed but still an opportunity to save jewish lives.
