The victims girlfriend says her boyfriend was walking back from the store when he was shot in the leg. Police say he will be okay. Overnight, a fourth shooting. This one happened near brook tree drive in northwest charlotte. A female victim was shot in the leg and drove herself to darby avenue and eventually the hospital. And i just checked in with the captain here at cmpd headquarters. He says so far one person is in custody thats related to the brookshire boulevard shooting. No one in any of the other shootings. Were live where the suspect is expected to make his initial appearance today at the courthouse. Angela . . Reporter es, thats right. Now, Darnell Brown will be here at the Mecklenburg County courthouse to face a judge on the charges. Hes been charged with murder and murder of an unborn child. Now, police say they believe that brown was the last person to speak with 17yearold before her death. Investigators believe that the two were supposed to meet up on the night of the hurt. Brown was already in custody for unrelated charges when Police Brought him in to be interviewed yesterday and that led to these charges. Four years ago, her body was found at elder park in charlotte. She had been shot in the head three times. She was also two months pregnant and warrants showed that at the time, she believed that brown could have been the father. The police chief is speaking out about this video that shows an officer repeatedly punching a suspect being taken into custody. The video raised a lot of concerns throughout the community and raised questions over the departments policy regarding use of force. Joe bruno is live at Police Headquarters to explain why they believe the officers actions were justified. Police chief understands that when you first see the video, it comes as a shock. He says after he reviewed body cam footage, it was clear to him that the officer did nothing wrong. A channel 9 viewer sent us the original video that shows the cmpd officer continuously punching a hitandrun suspect. The chief says body camera footage revealed the suspect was refusing to cooperate and the punches were to restrain him. Officers walked us through the tactics they use in these they say the punch looseens up the suspects arm, then the police could restrain him without injuries. It generated a loosening of the arm. Reporter the chief says its important to have the trust of the public and also History Police force regarding these investigations. And call the Sheriffs Office e to report it. Rowan county employees could get pay raises by next month, the county approved it to take effect by april.
