They say that the thieves were not able to get inside of both, but they also tried to get into the front of both of these stores. Now, as you just mentioned, police are investigating whether the breakins here are connected to another breakin on tryon street about 12 miles away. This is at north tryon and east way. This one happened around 2 00 a. M. At a store called gun outlet and pawn. And police tell us thieves were able to get inside of that store and they were able to get away with about 20 assault weapons. Now, police, again, they say they didnt make it into the stores here, but we just spoke with the owner about 15 minutes ago and he told us that they were able to cause a lot of damage in the back, thousands of dollars of damage when they tried slamming that car into the back of this Shopping Center. Right now police are looking for a suspect vehicle, a chrysler sebring. So were working to learn if they have developed any more suspect information. Fire destroyed a house there very early this morning. This is the 2100 block of bill lynch drive in lincolnton. We know right now know one was no one was injured but four departments responding to this. Right now Village Drive is closed. Investigators are investigating this right now. Also a fire in huntersville. Medics treated two people after a fire at this home here overnight. Investigators say it started in the bedroom of the home. This is grapper hall drive. It started around 1 00 this morning. Cant really see any damage on the outside of the house, but medics tell us they did evaluate two people for smoke inhalation. No word what caused that fire. And in North Charlotte a fire also forced a family out of their home overnight. Crews say it took less than 15 minus to put this one out. This is on king george drive. It started around midnight. Done to the outside, just a little bit there by the chimney. Fire Officials Say it started in the attic. No injuries here. Red cross is helping the family out. A major story well be following for your day ahead, in just a few hours North Carolina lawmakers plan to take on charlottes nondiscrimination ordinance. Overnight we learned new information about whats expected during todays special session. Leaders are expected to take up new legislation to undo parts of the ordinance. Officials say the current draft would prevent local governments from passing similar legislation and require schools to make sure people use bathrooms based on their biological sex. The bathroom provision of the ordinance allows transgender men and women to use the bathroom of their choice. Supporters say it gives the community equal rights. But opponents say it could allow criminals to prey on women and girls. The ordinance is scheduled to take effect on april 1st. Bradley will be in raleigh for the special session. It would have dropped three it would have kept hewitt off death row, but hewitt turned down the deal because the judge could not guarantee a max number 19year prison max number manyyear prison sentence. The judge will give his attorneys more leeway while cross examining some investigators who either did not take notes during an interview or accidentally lost a map of the crime scene. Well be talking with her in a few minutes. Channel 9 learned the x games are leaving austin after this year which could mean charlotte has a good shot at getting them. The Austin American statesman owned by channel 9s Parent Company is reporting the queen city has a chance to be the next host. Charlotte motor speedway spearhead the bidding process back in 2013 and tells us the games would have been helled at the dragway and the speedway. They could not confirm the games are coming to our area, but say theyre in talks with espn right now. Weve had some very preliminary discussions with them about what the future could look like moving ahead. According to the newspaper, the x games pumped as much as 172 million into the austin area. Chicago is and detroit were named finalists the last time around, along with charlotte. Begin in june. So he did this story yesterday. Yeah. Its still starting to gather out to the west and this is going to make a run towards our area as we head towards tomorrow. So what that means is well start the day off with some clouds, but then as we head towards midday Still Holding off on the rain. The rain that we are tracking, its not going to get here until later in the evening. So by 8 00 thats when well see a band of some steady rain pushing through the mountains, and this will make a run towards charlotte by around 10 00 tomorrow night. So, again, not arriving until later in the day, and this will push through as we head through the overnight hours. Still could see some lingering showers east of charlotte from into chesterfield by friday around 5 00 in the morning. But that clears out for the morning drive. And then as we head into the weekend, looking good for saturday, upper 60s, mostly sunny skies. Sunday we told you yesterday about a system heading this way thats going to bring the threat for some showers, but as of right now, i just got some new model data in, and this pushes it back later. Good news there. So that might not get here until late sunday night which is good news for any easter plans you might have. In the next half hour ill break down the timing of that on futurecast. It is a nice and mild start on this wednesday morning. Temperatures are running about 20 degrees warmer than they were this time yesterday. They just updated into our weather center. Its 52 in charlotte, 51 in lincolnton and 44 degrees in jefferson. You dont need the heavy winter coats this morning. Maybe a light layer in some of the cooler spots, but we are going to see a big warming trend going through the afternoon. So for your morning drive, well be in the mid to upper 40s by 7 00, warming to around 51 degrees by 9 00. Lots of sunshine expected today. And its going to be even warmer than it was yesterday, close to around 76 degrees here in the charlotte area. But that warmth will eventually lead to the threat for rain. Its a trend we told you about for months now, but this time they didnt get away with anything. Eyewitness News Reporter Brittany Johnson is live at hyatts guns in west charlotte to explain what we know at this point. So they werent able to get inside . Reporter they were not, john. We spoke to the owner of hyatt gun shop just moments after he surveyed the damage caused when thieves tried but failed to get into his gun shop here on wilkinsburg road this morning. Police say they used a car to smash into the back of the Shopping Center on wilkinson and they ended up breaking a gas line and causing thousands of dollars in damage, but they did not get inside. Investigators believe the same people tried to break into the Family Dollar store which is just right next door, but, again, they also did not steal anything. An hour earlier police were on
