Today the North Carolina transportation secretary traveled to dallas texas to talk with officials from the d. O. T. About a centra toll road that that meeting ended around 3 00 today. And channel 9 arranged to have a camera there. Governor pat mccrory ordered nick tennison to meet with the group today. Pat mccrory said he wants to review every available option, legal and financial to reassess the toll road model for the contract here. Now, after he left that meeting, tennison had little to say about the details they discussed. It was a very good conversation. Counselors and social workers were on hand today for students at Mount PleasantElementary School after a student brought a gun to class. The cabarrus County School district tells channel 9 friday a fourth grader had the gun inside the classroom all day and that it wasnt found until other students notified the teacher. Students were removed from the classroom and parents received a message from the principal. Its not clear where the student got the weapon or if it was loaded. Emergency workers say this is the worst crash theyve ever seen. This headon crash involving a log truck in chester county. The crash shut down the highway for nine hours. Reporter greg suskin spoke to troopers about what caused this. This is a very rural stretch of road in the western part of chester county. But it does have a lot of truck traffic. That traffic was detoured most of the day today as they shut down highway 9 following this horrific crash. From chopper 9 sky zoom, you can spot logs dumped across highway 9. Whats difficult to make out are the two vehicles involved. This is one of the worst accidents ive seen. Ed darby says that because of the tremendous force of the impact. A logging truck and chevy work van hit headon when the driver of the van crossed the center line at highway nine and turnbuckle road. It crushed the cab of the log truck pinning the driver inside. It took two hours to remove his body. The van was incinerated. Westchester fire chief andy martin says he found it on fire. It was fully involved. Out. The driver was all ready out of the van. Looking at the debris strewn across the road it was hard to tell what came from where. Both drivers were killed. Mike davis of clover and the log truck and jackie blaylock jr. In the van. Firefighters and neighbors called the area dead mans curve due to past accidents. This neighbor says hes seen drivers swerve out of their lane before. Make sure theres nobody coming on my side of the road. I asked d. O. T. About crash statistics about the area and they told me there were no major issues there. We hate it for the families. Because its just this could have happened to anyone. I asked troopers if they knew anything about what might have caused the van to cross the center line. They told me they stalked talked to witnesses who stopped after the accident but didnt have information to release yet. The log truck driver is the tanner davis.
