A roanoke man charged in connection with a double murder changes his stance midtrial. Demetrius wade is facing murder and firearms charges involving the deaths of ronald ramey and lenard hamlett. January 2015 in shenandoah avenue. Wade initially pleaded not guilty to his charges. But changed his mind this afternoon and pleaded no contest. Wsls 10s ananda rochita has more. Ananda rochita roanok e prosecutors talked about some of the evidence they wouldve presented today like witness testimonies. Witnesses say wade was angry when someone hit him in the head that night and then he started firing. Evidence he was firing at someone specifically they were quote to whom it may concern bullets. The assistant commonwealths attorney told the victims family members. Wade may have changed his mind after seeing them in the courtroom. Wade pleaded no contest and took a plea deal for two murder charges and two firearms charges. The judge said he could face a maximum of fourty years for each murder charge and an additional mandatory five years for each firearms charge. We talked to rameys daughter who said justice was served. Chastity saunders victim s daughter he loved everybody and now me and my sixteen year old sister. He wont walk us down the aisle or see our kids born. So we just wanted justice. And i think our entire family is happy that he is guilty. David eisenhauer. The 18yearold charged with first degree murder and abduction in the death of 13 yearold nicole lovell. Hires his own lawyer. Hes now being represented by Anthony Anderson of anderson and friedman and John Lichtenstein of lichtenstein law group. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for march 28th. 19yearold natalie keepers is also facing charges related to lovells death. She is charged with being an accessory before and after the fact to the first degree murder and concealing a body. Keepers is also scheduled for a preliminary hearing march 28th. The michigan man accused of killing six people and seriously hurting two others makes his initial court appearance. Jason dalton remained in jail hes charged with six counts of murder. Police believe he shot eight people at an apartment complex. Restaurant and car dealership in kalamazoo saturday night. According to the prosecutor. Dalton admitted his involvement. Police also believe he was servicing customers as an uber driver the night of the shooting. If convicted dalton could be sentenced to life in prison. His next hearing is scheduled for march third. New tonight at 7. The Virginia Senate unanimously passes a bill aimed at helping organizations get more volunteer medical professionals. The bill was introduced by local delegate sam rasoul. It would allow medical professionals who provide charitable Healthcare Services to receive continuing education credits. In the form of sovereign immunity to those who volunteer. According to the foundation for government accountability. The bill could result in over 85thousand free visits a year. A Similar Program passed in florida in 1992. Presented two bids to the Utilities Commission this afternoon, but after hearing the bids and having a lengthy discussion about the potential impact of going private, they voted to not take any action. Water director Barry Dunkley says private companies can often provide more resources than cities can. They can provide cant. Despite the potential benefits, at the meeting dunkley recommended that the city not go private. He did point out though that the private companies that potential solutions to help alleviate danvilles ongoing problem with smelly, discolored Drinking Water. The Virginia House of delegates also put language in its draft budget released sunday allowing the governor to give the county 1 point5 Million Dollars for development on the property.
