Before that final Selection Process was set to begin, whites defense attorney renewed her change of venue motion that she had filed several weeks ago. The judge then decided to go back to his chambers to review his notes and the law, and we are expecting him to make his decision at any minute. A Pittsylvania County woman will likely spend decades behind bars after pleading guilty to murdering her friend. Wsls 10s Colter Anstaett was in the courtroom as Christy Beskin made her plea. The victims family has been waiting for nearly a year for the sense of closure that danville Circuit Court, as the suspect, Christy Beskin, pleaded guilty to two charges related to the incident. Christy Michelle Beskin was scheduled to go to trial next week. Accused of beating Donna Gail Hiatt Lanier to death in march of last year inside laniers home. But instead, she was in court today pleading guilty. She plead guilty to Second Degree murder and arson. Debborah Caldwell Bono beskins attorney well, you look at the evidence and then the client decides what the best course of action is based on what you have to deal with. In outlining the evidence the state wouldve used against beskin in trial, the prosecutor said beskin and lanier had been drinking and doing drugs for hours leading up to the incident. She said the drugs and alcohol led to an argument. And that led to beskin beating lanier with multiple objects, ultimately killing lanier and then setting laniers home on fire. Laniers family is pleased with beskins plea. Wayne aaron victims cousin were very glad that she is stepping up to take some responsibility for this. Beskin is scheduled to be march 9th. The county pays her an additional 21 thousand 7 hundred on top of that. But that extra cash will be in jeopardy if the board decides williams isnt doing her job. Board chair chris tuck says the sole purpose of that extra money is to increase retention, but during her term, Williams Office has seen 1 hundred 50 percent turnover rate. Chris tuck, supervisor board chair 00 01 57 im unaware of any department in the county thats had that kind of turnover in an 8 year period of supplemental income was to deal with turnover, then this is not helpful. 888vo888 tuck says theyre giving williams a week to offer an explanation, which is 4 days more than she gave to her employees to defend their jobs before she let them go. Meanwhile, county resident james willis has started a petition to try and get williams ousted from office.
