Wsls tens rob manch has the latest on this developing story. Rob. What can you tell us about this deal . The Group Friends of the eenfield preston plantation, with the help of former supervisor steve clinton, say theyve raised 40 thousand dollars in one its all to help pay for a cancellation of the move of those buildings. Earlier today, those contractors moved one of the buildings to its new home in a field about a quarter of a mile away. At the meeting, descendants of the slaves that used to live and work in the building expressed their anger and frustration to the board. But clinton says their plan has the potential for the board to save face with the county while still moving forward with planned industrial development. Steve clinton, former board member03 26 12 we think theres opportunities to relocate that Shell Building on the site and maybe modify the site just a little bit. It would still allow a standoff distance for the Historic Buildings to go back on their native site, and thats what wed like. The group has asked the board to give them a response to their proposal by tomorrow night, before the next structure is planned to be moved. All told, the friends of the greenfield preston plantation tell me they have the potential to raise around 2 coming up at 6, well hear how the organization raised that money so quickly. Rob did people there today say why they would stake thousands of dollars of their own money on this . Well speaking with steve clinton, he says the drive to preserve history is a lot stronger today than when the proposal to move these buildings was first drawn up around 25 years ago. Its also the fact that structures like these are actually extremely rare. I spoke with the head historian at James Madisons montpelier last week, and he told me he could count on one hand how many existing slave structures there are left in the us that can be traced to descendants. Wsls10s Christina Craig found out what constitutes an Animal Rescue versus a hoarding scenario. Bedford, alleghany and floyd counties. The list is growing. So far, this year angels of assisi workers have dealt with 7 different hoarding situations across the state and one in north carolina. A lot of times it starts with really good intentions, they just wanted to help the animals, take them in, things like that and get in over their head.
