A nice warming trend on the way and a nice weekend forecast. Lets take a full look coming up. Freezing rain created challenges for crews in lynchburg. The secondary roads are the biggest concern. Beautiful and a lot warmer than it was this morning. This is good news for lynchburg public works who have been working to clear the roads. They had to deal the consistent snowfall, heavy downpours. They had to clear the snow from the drains because they were snowcovered. Langhorne is the primary road. They are passable and clear. The focus being shifted to secondary roads. I want to show you what morgan street looks like. That is a secondary residential road. Those are definitely going to be needing some work. Theyre not as pretty as the primary roads. Lynchburg public works and they will shift their focus on that today. The sun is going to help most going forward, they are going to make sure those back streets, residential and secondary roads are clear. They will also be focusing to make sure the storm drains are cleared. We will also be looking at overnight freezing, so you want to make sure if you hit any slick spots, to the careful. Looks like the worst is behind us. Police had their hands full this morning responded to two different tractortrailer accidents on route 29. One happened in lynchburg around 8 30 this morning on 29 business at kemper street. Our crews at the scene said the tractortrailer jackknifed causing a bit of a traffic jam. No one was injured, but the as crews worked to clear the truck from the road. The other was on route 29 somewhere between heard and altavista. No word on whether that truck has been moved from the area. Those are just a few of the weather related accidents from the last 24 hours. At last check, state police had reported three fatal crashes. Officials also tell us two troopers and a firefighter were hit at crash scenes and sent to the hospital. Lets head to the south side for a check on the conditions. Toll adamson is there. What are people dealing with . Reporter no power. Right north davis drive, there are three downed power lines. They came down about 1 00 this morning when there were three big pine trees that fell on top the whole neighborhood is without power. The same situation going on in the western portion of pittsylvania county. 750 customers are currently without power there. There is good news. Power has been restored to 450 customers in danville after one of the feeders at the piney forest substation developed a problem. Also, Danville Police say they responded to seven minor accidents overnight because of freezing rain. They are advising people to be careful on the roads because of all the melting snow. Reporter there are trees down all over the roanoke valley. Some of the trees have just hit franklin road hit a power line. Thats what happened in the glen ivy complex knocking out power to everybody in the area. At one point, about 48,000 appalachian power customers without power now that is down to 38,000. Most of those are in roanoke and franklin county. Appalachian power has crews working to restore power. Because of the number of outages, they say they dont know what that is going to happen. If you see a downed power line, call 911 right away and stay away from the wire. It is just your power thats out, call your power company, but dont assume they know your power is out. Make sure you let them know so they can come and fix it. Whitney. Whitney we have also seen down trees in the lynchburg area. Check out the scene of the 500 block of leesville road. Lynchburg Police Stopped after that tree took some power lines down with it. It happened around 7 30 this morning. Residents in the area say they were without power more than two hours while crews repaired the power pole. As tola and any just mentioned, thousands of people without power across the state. Aep reporting more than 8400 people out in roanoke city. Roanoke county has almost 10,000. Rankin county close to 10,000. Bedford about 1400. Lynchburg has just over 100 people without power. She is the wife of Richard Welch who is being called a person of interest in the case. Patricia welch is also charged with perjuring herself before the same grand jury.
