Many agents were unhappy with how he ran the clinton email investigation, but he was generally popular and well respected inside the fbi, and only once before has president fired an fbi director. Bill clinton filed william sessions in 1993 over concerns that sessions was using government money for personal purposes. Now the man who was the deputy fbi director, the 21year veteran of the fbi becomes the acting director. Hes somebody who had the confidence of james comey because comey picked him to be his number the russia investigation keeps going out of the counterintelligence division. Give me your knowledge of people been the bureau who think it resulted from the email investigation or the russia investigation . I would estimate that they think its the russia investigation. There have been months where the Trump Administration could have fired comey over the clinton email investigation. They chose not to. And this is when the grand jury is issuing subpoenas that relate to the Flynn Investigation which is part of this trump conspiracy with russia. So its ominous timing. I dont think any fbi agent in the fbi today would think this is an in action that President Trump needed to undertake. If its about the investigation into Hillary Clinton and her emails. The handling of that investigation is being looked into. Why wouldnt you wait until the results come in before you would make this move . I think its because its an emotional decision. If you saw president clinton when he had to fire the fbi director, he waited for an investigation to come forward and used it for cause. This is the weakest cause case out there. It makes no sense not to go ahead and wait for the ethics investigation to be completed. As a practical matter, what happens to the russia investigation now. We heard pete say it continues. But if a new fbi director comes in and is presumably hand picked by donald trump, can that fbi director shut it down . Can that person slow walk it . As a practical matter,wh investigation . Theres three things we should look at. One, the fbi agents doing the russia investigation will do what they planned to do. Theyre not going to strap. The real gap, the second thing is charges have to go to a grand jury. That has to be pushed to the department of justice. Who is impartial there that would have an open mind about this . We just saw where the doj under sessions now who said he refused himself, is probably not going to be open to charges being pushed on the russia investigation. And the president signalled in his own letter that there was nothing to be looking for, nothing to be looking at in terms of the russia investigation. Whoever he appoints, whoever the new fbi director is, they could come in and reprioritize on what President Trump wants rather than whats good for the nation. Clint, thank you very much. There were procedural problems with the way director comey handled the investigation, but the letter from this doj under donald trump says the main problem was that the approach by director comey was essentially too mean to Hillary Clinton. And by the way, nicole, if you want to fire james comey over the Hillary Clinton email investigation, you could do it on day one as president. You dont have to wait five months. While i greatly appreciate you informing me on three separate occasions that im not under investigation, i nevertheless concur with the department of justice that youre not able to effectively lead the bureau. What does that mean . It means no one has successfully reigned in donald trump from his impulses to carry on as if hes the ceo of the apprentice. When people refuse to fall into line, and this should send a chill and wake up every republican who thinks its okay to go along. The fact that democrats are james comeys defenders this morning, most of them believe we have a President Trump because of james comeys handling of the emails. Its interesting to see the on the one hand the white house is saying this is all about the Hillary Clinton email investigation. And President Trumps own letter betrays the fact that it is about russia. That thats at top of mind. We can give them the benefit of the doubt. But the fact that they thought they could turn the page on russia by removing the head of the fbi while the fbi is investigating russia guarantees it will be a burning focus. And the president has made an admission of a stunning level in that letter that youre both pointing to. Because the doj is trying to create neutral regions that has nothing to do with russia. And donald trump in writing that sentence that he couldnt hold back on is raising his criminal reliability. He inserted himself and russia into what they claim was a neutral policy decision. From a communications perspective, i think you laid it out. If you wanted to draw attention to russia, this seems like tl for russia. What theyve done is now everyone has to choose. If you care about getting to the bottom of the questions about russian mettling in 2016 which we know graham and mccain said they care about. And when you hear what we heard and read the description of what happened to this young man over a period of 12 plus hours, it literally makes you sick to your stomach. My question is is this a wakeup call for Penn State University . Are you willing to acknowledge that whatever the university was doing to govern this fraternity and all fraternities, it hasnt been so i would say this is very clearly a national problem. Weve had tens of deaths across the nation. We have University President large, small, private, public, trying to deal with this problem. You know that if you have a society which is secret which from all outward appearances is incredibly positive, these brothers signed a pledge that if they were caught drinking, they would be expelled. They have faculties a visors, a beautiful house, cameras. There were no external parties. If behind closed doors a group of people are willing to ban together, keep something secret, not the tell anyone, how is it that universities can manage to deal with a situation like that . Its private property. But i will tell you this. Were not going to give up until we either solve the problem or shut down every house thats out there. Its a problem, and its a difficult position for someone in your role. However, i think there are a lot of people who are sitting there and thinking the University Just turned a blind eye. They know what really goes on in these fraternities and they allow it. Okay. We have been working on this for more than a decade. We began with a lot of educational programs. Then mandatory educational programs. Then response programs if we had an incident. Then we worked on Team Approaches to get everybody involved, all the partners involved. Then we go to a task force that looks at america schisms where we can see something happening ahead of time. But the only real tool we have in the tool box is to take away the recognition for because you have to remember that its private property. Its a private house. Its privately managed. It has a National Organization that is involved there. It has alumni boards there, and the only tool that penn state has to be effective is to say youre no longer a student organization. Was this a secret kept right out in the open . Well, i will say this. The grand jury is going to go on and issue a report and recommendation about who knew what and when. And when that report comes out, i think its going to answer all of those questions. What about the culture and the climate of alcohol abuse at fraternities on penn state . Well, as the presentment showed, this behavior particularly with this fraternity has gone back quite a period of time. And we have found at least on just the cell phones that they have been doing it for semester after semester after semester. And i think the report and recommendation is going to open a lot of eyes about who knew what. Because its the grand jury report and recommendation, it has to come to fruition before the details can be released. I think its going to be surprising to people who what. District attorney parks miller, i think every parent needs to go and read this timeline. You should go and read the timeline. As disturbing as it is, it is so illuminate as to what happened inside that fraternity. Im curious how you came up with the threshold in terms of people who were actively involved in the drinking, hazing ritual and people who simply ignored the desperate condition of this young man. How did you decide who to charge and who not to charge . Well, as you know, we worked with the grand jury, and they made the recommendation for charging which we supported after they heard scores of testimony. But for manslaughter you have to find that reckless behavior led to the death. In this case the theory begins with preplanning an event that gets you to a fatal level of alcohol which leads directly to event and participated. One of the young men said the government assumes these young men, many of whom were intoxicated themselves should have been able to differentiate symptoms of extreme fox kags to symptoms of a threatening head injury. Thats mistating pennsylvania law and its a copout. Personal responsibility lives in my county. Again, reckless death begins and ends when they serve these young man as part of a condition to be in a fraternity, fatal levels of alcohol. Thats the reckless conduct that led to the death. Ignoring signs of his injury compounds it. It starts when they decide to get these young men fatally drunk, risking death. That begins the manslaughter. The rest of it just compounds it. The parents of the tim, do they see allf those who forced him to drink and those who ignored his condition . Im sure, yes. And im sure personally outside of the legal realm which is our job to assign responsibility, they see personally everybody who did not help him as responsible, and morally theyre probably not wrong. We went to the worlds Busiest Airport to talk etiquette in the skies. Anger in the air. Cell phone cameras were rolling as tempers flared during testing and even violent episodes. From from. Perhaps its fuelled by a larger anxiety. We went to take the pulse of the flying public. Why is flying more stressful today . After 9 11, going through security can be stressful. The its not as pleasant as it used to be. Its a stressful environment. Youre not going there for fun. Peoples patience level seeps to be zero when they show up at the gate. The limits are the tested in many ways. Im a believer that we all contribute to the situation in some way, passengers, flight crew. What do you think are some things that passengers could be doing differently . Rushing to get on the plane and sort of people pushing you from the back. That starts it off. People are like its a 15 hour flight, and theres this crowd and n this big metal tube in the air. Seat belted in so close to strangers, and some behaviors can be offensive. Probably experienced was a woman brushing her teeth and sucking on her toothbrush the entire flight. People dont notice their feet smell and they take off their shoes. It smells like that for the rest of the time. Where do you come down an taking your shoes off . No no taking your shoes off. If you wear flipflops, thats fine, but even that, it would be nice to not crush your legs so your foot is not in the other persons lap. What about reclining your seat . I say go for it. If the person in front of me does it. Its a domino effect. Never. Never. Why . If you recline your seat one centimeter, it makes my flight 35 more uncomfortable. And so i try to pass that same courtesy on to the person behind. There was little debate over who gets two armrests. The middle passenger. They dont have the space. Middle seat person. Gets both. The guy in the middle. Whats he going to do . This mother had just taken her twoyearold daughter on her first flight. She says travel with a child can be nerve wracking. Sometimes people dont have compassion. They just think im running late. Gabby almost got knocked out one time, im like its not that serious to knock my baby over. This man says he suspects some travelers go to Great Lengths to board early. I think they abuse the wheelchair access. You see more wheelchairs going on to the plane than coming off. From the perspective of somebody that actually needs a wheelchair, thats a little bit frustrating. Reporter this executive says he travels 100 times a year. What are your secrets for keeping your cool with flight delays, weather delays. The things i can control, i cant control the weather. I cant control maintenance. I think the other thing is having empathy foreo oftentimes these folks are the messengers, not the creators of the issue. This young woman who is about to take her very first flight had this perspective an how to deal with her fellow travelers. Make sure you respect peoples space and if you bump into somebody, try to be polite even though youre all together. Really good insight on that. We have three tips to go through based on our conversations. The first is arrive at the airport prepared. Travel is stressful. Bring the things that make you happy. Your Favorite Book or candy bar. This way youre able to be more considerate and less stressed. Number two, make sure you engage in conversation. We heard this universally with the people we spoke with. You sit next to someone for six hours. You pull down the eye mask and pop into your buds and have no connection. The more you humanize the experience guilty, on a plane. And especially for travelers. I think you want to just get into the laptop and get your work done. Youre not there to make friends, but you can make a friend. Or you can have niceties and get to your work. And the final thing is be considerate. This is not a private airplane. Youre not going to take more than your space. Youre not going to encroach into anothers area. Be considerate. Use space wisely, and considerately. For those of us who travel with kids, can i say Public Service announcement, dont give us the death lasers. The parents feel terrible when their kids are misbehaving and are trying to control the situation. Jenna pulled off a heart warming surprise. I loved this mom. April green always dreamed of having a mom. Jane horn and her husband turned that dream into a reality when they dropted her at 17. April reached out. But she lived pretty far away from her parents. This surprise was a tough one to pull off. Im april and this is sara. We are living in okinawa, japan. We are headed to memphis, tennessee. Were going to surprise our mom for mothers day ot show. A twoday journey that took april and daughter sara around the globe, and it all started with a letter. This is what i submitted. I wanted my mom janet horn to see if they love my mom as much as i do. Reporter like many adopted teens, she moved over and over to dozens of temporary childrens homes throughout her childhood. My past was very negative, but the horns gave me a positive future. Reporter her adoptive parents met her at a church dinner. The horns were part of the friends family, and Outreach Program where children like april spend quality time in a welcoming home. Mothers day 2003 was one of our last visits together as a friends family. It was on that night that they asked me to become a part a part of their family. Their daughter. Sorry. She has given me the best gift by giving me a family, and someone to come home to. Reporter as part of the surprise, we included her brother, zach, who flew from that idaho and little brother joshua helped too. Their mom janet would be spending a typical wednesday cooking you have a storm at the church. Our producer told janet nbc was doing a story on their church, but she had no idea what else was in store. Were at the back door of the church. Sh. First of all, lets check out lisas bridge. This is before lisa went shopping for the plan. So many of us open up our fridge and say we have nothing to make. I saw a lot of things. I saw the onion, marinara, and eggs. Did you know sheinelle has never as a kid, i didnt like it. This is going to be our homework tonight. We are making a middle eastern dish, but its going to have zucchini noodles. This is a spiral slicer. You could pick one up at any Home Good Store for about 10 or use a vegetable slicer. Make your noodles. In the skillet, saute the noodles. Garlic powder, onion powder is added. Throw in your marinara sauce. You let the whole thing get nice and well seasoned and soak up the flavor. And on top two eggs. You cover it, and this whole thing, the calorie . 280 calories. Chars of her leftovers. She had cauliflower and broccoli. She had rotisserie chicken. I saw stock j vegetable stock. A can of beef and stewed tomatoes. Take three cups of any vegetable combination. They could be fresh or frozen. Boil it up in four cups of reduced sodium broth. I add the can of steamed tomatoes, a can of any kind of beans, two cups of rotisserie chicken and whatever seasoning you want. Lets go to obi. Since very sheen and reuben are doing the exercise, whats week two . Week two is a little more difficult. We added one extra move for each day. Now were doing seven different moves. And i want to show you one move were going to be doing called cha well do burrpees. We have a chair . Ill show you the exercise really quick. This is going to work the arms, the triceps. Have your arms shoulder width apart. Well go down, extend all the way, all the way down. I would say 10 to 15 seconds about three to four sets. Very simple exercise you can do in your office, living room, at home. Very simple. And how about the burppee. I hate burppees but they work. We have the highest Unemployment Rate in the state of texas. Reporter the population just over 1,000. In a rural area like this, books can take you outside of what you know, and they teach you so much about the world. Reporter shelly star knows the importance of books in childrens lives. I like the shark book thats over there and the lego book with the lego person. Reporter for the last seven year shes been the elementary, middle school, and high School Librarian. On tuesday he ate through two pair but he was still hungry. I start in the Elementary Library and check in books and this is my favorite place in the school. Reporter in addition to her daily tasks, device a year she hosts a book fair. The hope is each child can bring book home to read with their family and keep them. Early on shelly realized financial hardships prevented kids from buying books. Sometimes kids come in and have a few pennies and want to buy a book. My volunteers would start buying books for the kids. Its heart breaking. We keep digging in our own pockets to make it work for these kids. We couldnt keep up with the demand. Reporter determined to make su sure every child to who wanted a book had one, she reached out to the community. I made a facebook post. Within about 20 minutes, i had a man handing me a 100 bill. The book fair is supported by the community, foreigner students and strangers. For her students and raising awareness about the needs. She goes above and beyond. She tries to get to those who may not be interested in reading, but get them interesting in picking out books they would like to read. This book is about a boy named billy, and his horse named blaze. Theres a lot of books, and you can explore more if you keep reading. News about the fair travels quickly through their small town. Neighbors encouraging other neighbors to pitch in. They are very proud of it. Its in the newspapers. And people talk about it at churches. But shelly and her Community Still have work to do. And like any determined educator, she wont stop until every childs needs are met. We would love to see every kid be able to get a book from the book fair and take books home. Okay. When it comes to my relationship myself, my husband, if i have a little nerve left and hes stepping on it, and there are other times when i see him with the kids and all is right with the world. I love to see henry as a dad. To watch the girls juststa start him in awe makes me have a new feeling toward him that was not the way that it was before. The its so refreshing to kind of step back for a second and realize im not just one busy and exhausted. Hes doing it too and deserves as much credit. Having little kids is a lot of pressure. That need you right now. You have to have that commitment. Some days the its just a commitment. Like im in it with you and youre in it with me. And its not always pretty.
