Well look back at some of the highs and some of the lows of the past 100 days. Right now President Trump is dealing with what could be the biggest Foreign Policy challenge of his presidency. North korea and yet another failed missile launch. The north krooeoreans are sayin they are just getting started. Kelly kcobiella is live with more. Reporter the heated rhetoric is really raising tensions around the world. The missile test comes a day after President Trump warned that there could be a, quote, major, major conflict with north korea. And overnight, the president tweeted saying, north korea disrespected the wishes of china and its highly respected president when it unsuccessfully launched a missile today. At 5 33 in the morning local time at a lawn ch site north of the capital, pyongyang. Two u. S. Military Officials Say it appears to be launching a mediumrange Ballistic Missile. The same that was tested earlier this month. A missile that could be used to target mosul targets like an aircraft carrier. The Officials Say the missile broke apart in midair a couple minutes after launch about 20 miles from the launch site. Sheinelle, all this comes as north korea continues to threaten to one day launch a longrange missile that could hit hawaii or the u. S. West coast. Sheinelle . Craig . Very concerning. This is the 27th launch since the end of 2011 when kim jongun was sent into power. Why does it seem hes picking up the pace . And specifically, what risks do launches like these pose to the country and their allies . Well, well break this down, craig. This was not a nuclear test, which would have been their sixth. It was not as kelly noted an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile flight test. Thats the rocket that could hit the western part of the United States where they are trying to miniaturize a military weapon and put it on top. But this was an act of defiance. It was a further effort to escalate their short and mediumrange rocket forces, which could hit our allies of south korea or japan. This is another very destabilizing act on the peninsula with 30,000 troops. President trump in an interview with reuters said, quote, we could end up having a major, major conflict with north korea. Do you see a connection between the president s statement and this well, in some respect, these are in response to the global effort to clamp down on north korea. The u. N. Security council is talking about the threat from north korea this week. So kim jongun is trying to show internally to his people that he can stand up to the world powers. It is a very destabilizing situation. If he comes to believe that the United States is coming after him militarily, which some could understand from the president s own rhetoric, then he may accelerate his program and do something very provocative. And elise jordan is a former adviser to the rand paul campaign. And we have former democratic congressman morning to you. Michael, let me start with you in d. C. The 100day mark some say is ridiculous. And others say hes accomplished more than in the first 100 days in history than any administration. What is the truth here . Reporter a little exaggeration. Yes, there have been conservative appointments, including Supreme Court justice. And yes, theres been a lot of deregulation. But the biggest measure that we usually use, we historians, craig, for the first 100 days is, how much legislation got through congress . Donald trump has the Party Controlling both the house and the senate and not one key piece of legislation. Can you put that in perspective for us, michael . How the president has been able to enable to enact legislation in the first 100 days . Well, in 1983, they tried to fix the banks. Other levels of success. The thing before the election, donald trump said elect me, you will get a plan of action beginning with health care reform. That did not happen. What has surprised you most during the first 100 days . The president s lack for the appreciation of what his administration can do. He had some 90 of the appointments of the 550 or so confirmable appointments, only about 5 of them have been appointed, let alone filling the roles. And his disrespect for congress in the process there, i think, has slowed him down. A lot of his errors are correctable. After the first 100 days, you would hope he would selfreflect. The next 100 days for all president s have been the most critical because you put the infrastructure in place to get things done. Im not convinced hes done, but the good thing for and hopefully he understands that new court. Let me bring you in here. You were just back from conducting focus groups in texas. Im interested to hear what people think about how hes doing so far. And you asked the people about his tweets, too. Well, i spent a week in texas in san antonio, houston, and talked to voters from all walks of life. All political persuasions by the duk, and what was so surprising is there is so much political disagreement. Everyone wants the president to stop tweeting. Thats the one thing that even as most of his hard core supporters are just like, mr. President , just please give it a rest. They are worried about how the tweets could insight violence internationally and provoke war. And so, on the other hand, democrats are concerned about his tweeting also. Just because they had hoped that trump was going to start to become more president ial. And they havent seen that transition yet, behaving as though hes in ff me yesterday was down in atlanta at the Nra Convention is, here was a president throwing more red meat to the base. And what we have seen in the past, at least, is that the president has been trying to broaden the base. This is not a president that seems intent on doing that. How long can that strategy continue . If he is intent on not getting anything done in congress, the failure of the Health Care Debate showed it. Hes probably going to have to reach out to democrats to get major legislation passed, including tax legislation. So im hopeful hell change on that front. Jeremy bash was most interesting this morning as he talked about north korea and south korea. Heres a president who wants the world to help him. We were ridiculing china and russia showing resistance to our plant in north ya. At the same time the president said we may not support the construction or pay for the construction of the antidefense and yesterday that was aimed right at north korea as jeremy touched upon. So there needs to be a better narrative after the first 100 days to reflect and get a better next 100 days. So we have time for one more . Really quickly on the stump during the campaign, he constantly mocked president obama for the executive orders, but i was looking this up this morning. President trump has signed more executive orders in the first 100 days since any other president has in 72 years. What is the deal here . Is he not working hard enough to make deals . Well, i think President Trump equates signing executive order to action. Since hes not able to move congress, and we saw the health care debacle, he sees executive orders as a way of putting an accomplishment on paper. And his supporters agree with him. They like that they see him in the oval office signing papers. But unfortunately hes going to have to deliver more than just signing a paper.
