They always will be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on love, respect, integrity, and joy. These things are always well worded, and you understand why. They always ask for privacy at a time like this. I always say when i read back. Can you go back to what it says exactly . Here it is. That doesnt help me. Here it is. That makes it worse. Well always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed. If you have all that, then why cant you make the marriage work . Im not saying they dont have it, im not questioning. The wording is always interesting to me. I think if youve got all those components in your relationship, why would there not be hope for that marriage . We dont know what goes on. Thats what im saying. Is it just for the prepress. Something that struck me about her relationship with her husband. I remember being envious is a strong word, but thinking, wow, they are very, very lucky. I remember how it seemed how deep it was, how open it was, and how it seemed to be steamy, very kind of public steamy relationship. She kept saying, you know, we always keep our relationship, you know, keep the home fires burning, and sometimes after 11 years, you think god, if they can do that, why arent we doing that . Its hard to keep home fires burning if youre not home. Its very hard. Hes on the road. Thats a grueling schedule. Shes an actress. Almost never shoot movies and things where you live. Youre almost always on location. It takes a very, very extraordinary relationship to last through that sort of stuff. But back to the question, do people who seem to have all that chemistry and they talk about it and you peek in, is it real and why dont i have that. We saw that with heidi klum. I dont know why you dont have it, i pray for you every day. Mock tail, i dont even want it. We were so surprised when they broke up. Heidi klum and seal. They got married every year. Renewed their vows. Every time you saw them, they were kissing. Beautiful babies. Ashton kutcher and demi moore seemed to be publicly affectionate. When you saw them, you peeked in and thought if i could just have that. Not just that that keeps two people together. It helps. I think thats a big part of our culture problem. Whats that . The media tells us that its all about sex. Sex is a wonderful part of a Good Relationship but its one component. You could have the worlds greatest sex life and have a lousy marriage. But you always hope you can still have the steam after years and years and years and years. Whats the truth . You cant. Thats the end of that. You cant. You can have something thats even better and deeper. If thats what you want is just steamy and steamy, first of all, your bodies are going to tell you differently. You age and men lose their testosterone by the time they are age 50, theyve lost half of it. Women go through hormonal changes. Cranky. Setting yourself up for why dont you find a different kind of contentment and have those moments when you still rekindle what you have. You need the rekindling moments, too. Youre not the same person you were when you were 18 years old. You can still have romance and you can still have hot sex. Yes, you can. Yes, you can. Not as often or as long. Understanding the meaning of it, what the depth of it is. That doesnt really work well with trashing and pointing fingers at other people and blaming. Thats just negative energy you dont need. What was thpurpose for you, in your private moment when you said im going to write this book, what did you want to accomplish from it . Well, for me, if you know anything about golf okay. Yeah. Okay. You dont want to hook in golf. Dont say hook. You want to hook in music, but not in golf. You do know. I played the front nine. Im now teeing off at the back nine of my career and my life, and this book is my tee shot. Thats great. Theres a lot of things i want to do, films, musicals, more albums. I have another album coming out february 8th. Theres a lot going on, but the story, ive been putting chapters away and putting moments away i think should come up in the book. Then i had a few great people. Fortunately for me ive got a great publisher and great editor, whos here by the way, who believed in my story enough and hearing about what the story was like and how that will resonate with people who have had some rough spots and dont think that its all about the glamour and the glitz. What was your roughest spot, when you talk about one of your lows that you really pulled out of, how would you nut shell that . The single hardest time was sitting at the Kitchen Table with three young daughters and wife and not wanting them to know how broke we were. Keeping it from the kids. Right. And having rent checks bouncing and a really nice guy as a landlord who said, i cant carry you anymore. You have to leave. We didnt have homelessness, the term, we werent using that back then. It was just, the reality of it, was right there. So, thats something you never forget, you never get it out of your system. Speaking of your children, theres one really interesting portion of the book, you were sued for plagiarism. Copyright infringement. I felt your pain, wait a minute, i never heard this song before. We had a tape of us writing it together, and you were still found to be guilty. That goes to the soul of a person, pardon the pun. You stole somebody elses child and called it your own. What happens is your child gets taken from you. Yeah, yeah. I felt for you. That was up there with one of the worst things that could ever happen to anybody. The book is really interesting. Very uplifting, a lot of life lessons. Beautifully written. Even though you dont trash anybody, i think its going to sell a whole lot of books. By the time it was done, it was back and too late. It was decadent and brilliant. Musical movies were not really in vogue at the time. Theyd had a couple that failed. So there wasnt a lot of excitement from the money people. And sometimes we took a little more time. We didnt we did this thing really on a shoestring in many, many ways. Did you know it was going to be a hit . No, no, no. Never. You didnt feel it . Except there was something about working with fosse. He was truly creative. He wanted us to improvise, then go and see the daily rushes and see the results of our labor. As a theater man he so respected his actors. He loved us. And every friday night, on set, and thats how he found out the girls could play the saw. A lot of stuff he found out, he put in the movie. He was always listening, always watching.
