Welcome everybody, welcome to the tonight show. This is it, baby, you made it. Youre here. Thank you. [ cheers and applause ] heres what people are talk about, you guys. Im told that President Trump d wondered why the civil war ever happened. [ light laughter ] then education secretary betsy devos said, thats easy, captain america and iron man got in a big fight. [ laughter ] thats not. Stop it both of you, stop it. Not only that, trump also said that Andrew Jackson was really angry about the civil war, but Andrew Jackson actually died 16 years before it started. [ laughter ] some said hell apologize to jackson when they play golf together next week. [ applause ] so that hell hell take care of it. Dont worry about it. Actually i saw that trump defended all his trips that hes made to his golf courses, saying that he only goes there to hold meetings. Even guys who go to hooters for the wings were like, yeah, right. [ light laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] best wings, man spicy trumps keeping busy, in fact i read that he invited the leader of thailand to visit the white house. But trump thinks thailand is just a clothing chain that sells really long ties. [ laughter do you have anything in red that goes down to my toes . Thank you very much. [ laughter ] actually actually i think i think. Heres i think trump ties his tie normal and he looks in the mirror and he goes, that looks great. Then he goes, now lets go to work [ unintelligable ] [ laughter ] its a posture thing. Its a posture thing if anything. I read that trump is actually giving tours of the white house. Yeah, of course a lot of his visitors have questions on their tours so trump tries his best to answer them. For example when someone asks who planted the roses in the rose garden . Trump says, Chris Harrison from the bachelor. Steve wow. Jimmy hes trying to guess steve yeah. Finally when visitors ask what kind of dishes you use for state dinners, trump says only the finest china. There you go. China. Jimmy were learning more about how trumps been holding up in the white house. In fact a senior official says that when you go in to meet with trump you dont need to make a power point, or bring a a bunch of paperwork, but a a sock puppet cant hurt. I mean he loves hes a a sucker for it. [ laughter ] pretty well known that trump doesnt trust the media. He actually had a pretty awkward interview with cbs just this weekend, and it turns out the only person hell allow himself to be interviewed by is himself. I go i just but you got to explain to me one and this is, again, not a this is not a spoiler. At one point, are you in his basement or his workshop or something . Um, he is an antiquarian horologist, which im sure you know what that is. Jimmy a horse . Something to do with a horse . [ light laughter ] he collects horses . Hes a, um jimmy he makes mazes . Yeah. Jimmy hes a maze maker . Keep going. Jimmy its something to do with a clocks, right . Yeah, hes an antique clock restorer. Horology which i didnt know this term before, again, before i knew john its the study of time, anyone who studies time or time pieces. So, he is fixing, like, really beautiful, strange old clocks, hundreds of years old, and you know, in the middle of the woods in alabama. Hes one of the best in the world. And, um, and, so, were in his clock shop one day. Um, and, yeah jimmy did you find it weird what he did to you . I mean, no. He didnt do anything. [ laughter ] no, its almost, like, a magic trick. Sorry. It was a magic trick. What he did he goes he goes, you got any loose change . Or Something Like that. Yeah, we was like, hey, you got any change . I was like, uh, yeah, sure. I thought we were investigating a murder, but whatever. He was drinking some wild turkey that day. [ light laughter ] yeah, just 2 00 on a tuesday or whatever. Jimmy totally normal. And his friend, tyler, was there sharpening a chainsaw at the same time. Jimmy i mean, im serious. This is really happening. And jimmy his buddys sharpening a chainsaw. Yeah. Jimmy and youre in his workshop . Yeah. Jimmy okay. Its just yeah. Jimmy but then, you give him a dime. Yes, he asked if i had any change. I pulled a dime out of my pocket, which i actually have if you want to jimmy id love to see it. I actually have it, right here. Jimmy lets tell the story. Okay. Jimmy wait, i want to see it, though. But but, do you want to want to see it. Story, then see it . Jimmy okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, well, yeah. Because its fascinating. So yeah, yeah, were jimmy he pulls out a bucket or something. Yeah, so he was, like, you have any change . I pull a dime out of my pocket. Jimmy yep. Hes like, im gonna gold plate a dime for you. And he starts kind of is running around the work shop like a mad scientist, basically. He gets a bucket. He pours all sorts of chemicals in it, talking about, like, chelating agents. I have no idea what hes talking about. Jimmy this to me goes, im in a dateline episode. I mean, this is, like [ laughter ] yeah. Jimmy youre pouring a a bucket of acid. Youre going to throw it on me and burn the evidence. Yeah. Jimmy youll never this is how i die. Thats what i would say. I think my mind went there a a little bit. Jimmy okay. But and then he hooked it up. So, he took my dime. He dropped it in his bucket of chemicals. There was like he had cyanide in there and other things, gold, some kind of gold. And then he hooked up a car battery, naturally. Jimmy how would you even figure this out at all . Yeah. Jimmy or he knows ran the wires into the bucket and then amped it up and out came the dime which was gold. Jimmy can i see the dime . Yeah. Yeah. [ cheers and applause ] jimmy take a look at that. Show it to the camera, camera one right here. Look at this thing. [ audience oohs ] yeah. Jimmy i mean, that is pretty cool. [ applause ] thats the real one. Jimmy i didnt even know you could do that. Me neither. Jimmy it just the guy yeah. Jimmy hes just fascinating. Yeah, hes really jimmy i mean, everything he talking about. Believes in global warming, anti like, what are we going to do to save the earth . Hes passionate, so passionate about that. Mmhmm. Jimmy and what im getting from it is that he just he is so mad that no one is doing stuff about it, like people are just kind of shrugging. Yeah. Jimmy and going, well, i guess thats happening. Yeah. It enrages him. Jimmy it really does. Yeah. Jimmy but its also something i dont know. Something sad about him too, a a little bit. Like, he is very hes very kind of negative a lot. But it also a bit when hes talking about time pieces, hes talking about a a sun dial. And there was this, this, like, saying or something etched in, is that true . Yeah, exactly, no. Something else i learned from john i didnt know. So, sun dials often have sayings or mottos theyre called sun dial mottos etched in them in latin or english. So things, like, tedious and brief is one. Jimmy i mean, that just really just kind of mournful mottos about time. Yeah. Jimmy tedious and brief. Yeah. [ light laughter ] actually, and after meeting john, i started noticing them in the world. So, i was at like some mission, like, at a museum kind of in california. I found one next to a grave. There was a sun dial. And i was like, oh, i know to look for the motto, like, because this because john told me. And i look and it says in latin, like [ speaking latin ] which i looked up later, this is no good. Ive lost a day. [ light laughter ] sitting next to a grave. [ laughter ] jimmy wow. Yeah, just uplifting things like that. [ laughter ] jimmy has it changed you . Has it changed jimmy has it changed your life . Absolutely, yeah, absolutely. Jimmy what did you take from it . What did you like you were saying about just, i mean, john kind of bears the weight of the injustices small and large. So, you know, very local injustices in his small town of, like, a thousand or 2,000 people in alabama. You know, people feeling you know, people in poverty, people feeling beat down by the court system. And then climate change, like the biggest problem were facing as a globe, and he kind of treats them all the same. And, i dont know, what id say i learn from him is, like, to actually feel outraged about those things and to kind of kick each other in the ass and say, lets fix some of this stuff. Lets not, like [ cheers and applause ] yeah. Jimmy yeah, exactly. Climate change, yeah. Lets do it. Jimmy im so thankful you did this. Again, i didnt give away any spoilers away except for the dime. I appreciate it. Thank you. Jimmy and i cannot wait to go back and listen to you. Youre doing such great work. Thank you. Jimmy congratulations. Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
