A tragic pedestrian accident in Loudoun County left a fivemonth old baby dead and a mother seriously hurt. In the past two weeks, several people have lost their lives crossing streets in our area. There are flowers, candles, notes left behind all in memory of this tiny victim. Now, this was a tragic accident. It happened yesterday. The child who was killed just five months old, being pushed across the road in a stroller. The childs mother also very seriously injured. Now, the mother was in the crosswalk. The driver sd this is a situation that has really, really impacted the Community Just a little while ago there were some women who walked up to the area, came and looked at the memorial and were visibly shaken. Did not want to talk to us. But looked at the memorial and were just obviously visibly shaken by whats happened here. This is part of a deadly trend that were seeing unfortunately in the dmv. Five people have been killed in our area in just the last two weeks and its part of a national trend. 35,000 people have died in 2015 and crashes of an increase of 7 . Pedestrian and cyclist deaths increased to levels that we have not seen in 20 years, and a memorial behind me here, a heart breaking reminder of just how dangerous it can be out there on roadways. Now, area jurisdictions are trying to improve things, improve safety, in some through technology. Here in this area weve not seen rain, areas just north of tampa have seen some flash flooding overnight. Hermine is strengthening. The storm is expected to make landfall in florida late tonight or tomorrow as a hurricane. Its expected to dump 5 to 10 inches of rain in some places, some isolated spots could see as much as 20 inches of rain. The area where we are in hurricane warning and Tropical Storm watches and warnings extend all the way into the carolinas. So man da tory evawkss in effect. Dangerous storm surge is expected throughout much of floridas gulf coast. Up to seven feet some in some spots. If it will be the first hurricane to hit florida in nearly 11 years. Eventually, that storm leaves the florida area and becomes a problem for us as we get into the late saturday night, into the sunday morning time frame. This is the official forecast track from the National Hurricane center. Dont focus on just the line. Focus on the entire cone. The storm could be anywhere inside of this area. This is a 2 00 a. M. If that area of High Pressure goes farther to the east, it will keep the storm closer to the coast. The latest thinking now from the Hurricane Center is that area of High Pressure will build farther to the west and keeps it farther off shore. Thats not a guarantee. You are talking about the path of Tropical Storm hermine. We have many warnings here. The hurricane warning, its the first since 2012, hurricane isaac. Floridians are being told to stay inside and off the roads. Not everyone is heeding warnings that are being headed down and thats where were seeing several problems. The Tropical Storm is bringing flooding to many areas on the gulf coast, causing people to roads there. People are scrambling to try to save what they can, get their pets out of their homes. Others are scrambling to get sand bags. Streets flooded. Local officials are closing down roads prone to flooding just as a precaution to keep the drivers off the streets here. The storm is impacting People Living from the panhandle to areas just south of tampa. This is the biggest weather event since Tropical Storm colin back in june. Neighbors know they can expect some flooding. They hope the storm passes quickly.
