You can find those on social media and youll see them scroll oncoyour screen this morning as well. Back over to you guys. All right. Thank you. We have a lot mf Team Coverage to get to this morning. Well hear from our crews on the roads but first the storm team 4 forecast from Sheena Parveen and chuck bell. Good morning. Good morning. It is freezing out there. Temperatures are feeling like Single Digits in some areas and chuck is outside this morning to show you just how cold its feeling. Hes on the patio, but as far as that windchill is concerned were talking about it feeling like again mentioned, Single Digits. The wind is whipping out there gusting near 40 Miles Per Hour. We have areas of ice that were talking about this morning so thats going to be the biggest concern outside. 23 degrees but its going to be feeling a lot colder. 28 degrees by noon. Watch out for ice all day today because temperatures will be staying below freezing all day. Well be blustery. Winds will be gusting like i mentioned close things feel a lot colder through the entire afternoon. Its barely going to feel like freezing today even though our actual high will be around 30. So the wind advisory is up for everybody. It is a blustery afternoon, a blustery start leading into a blustery afternoon and thats going to pull in lake effect snow flurries. Could see a passing snow shower later on today, otherwise, bundle up. Hopefully chuck bell is bundled up. Hes outside where it is absolutely frigid. Good morning. Yes, my buddy here is even colder looking than i am this morning. Im putting this little thermometer between me and the winds. The winds are out of the northwest, so at least i can break the breeze. Temperatures are way down into the teens and 20s as sheena was mentioning but that is literally only half the story. Once you factor in the winds, the current windchill in hagerstown is zero. 9 in manassas. 9 in arlington. The feei frederick and gaithersburg. 7 all the way down into southern maryland. So again, the windchills down in the single numbers here this morning. Even with some amount of sunshine coming our way this afternoon, windchills are likely to stay in the teens to around 20 degrees all day long. The only piece of equipment im missing right now are earmuffs. My ear lobes are about to freeze right off. Okay. Taking a look right now at one of our issues around town here, bradley boulevard between river road and seven locks here. So adam tuss, thats where he was for us in potomac so you can see we still have that closure right now. Well keep an eye on that one. That is because of wires down this morning. Top of the beltway, all these routes into and out of town rolling along here right now. 95 northbound southbound here at pohick road, nice and clea the main roads really are just fine this morning. The sidewalks, the overpasses and little patches of ice here and there where youre going to see problems. Right now, 66 from Fairfax County parkway to the beltway youre on time. Remember to listen to wtop when you hop in your car today. Thank you. Metro rail reopened just a few minutes ago. All stations are open and all lines are running. Remember, safe track single tracking is still happening on the yellow and blue lines. If you take metro bus, there are some delays and detours for riders operating on a moderate snow service plan today. You should have no problem taking local Commuter Rail lines this morning. Vre trains are back on a normal schedule. Be i if you need to take am track to places like new york or boston expect a modified schedule there. Were also monitoring air travel. So far all three airports are dealing with delays and cancellations. Check with your airl on to the roads we have you covered there as well. Adam tuss joins us live in the storm team 4 x 4 this morning. Hes taking a closer look at those wires down. What are you seeing . Thats right. Were out here in the potomac area. Bradley boulevard between seven locks and river road. Weve got the closure in place. We had a driver come through here and didnt know what was going on. The crews on scene here say they should be wrapping up fairly soon. Theyve had their bucket trucks up trying to get one or two wires restrung up there and they look like theyre making significant progress. Here comes the truck right now so maybe theyre on their way to finish this up. So good news here. But this is what weve been dealing with all around the area. Wires down, poles down, trees down, the heavy wind from yesterday and of course weve got the ice out there. Do give yourself some extra time. Be careful as you get out and about. The side streets a the main roads are in really good shape and a shout out to all the road crews who did a really good job getting things back open for today. But again, this closure here, bradley boulevard between seven locks and river looks like its about to be lifted here. Well keep an eye on all the potential problems in the area. And we want to head northwest of the district to frederick, maryland. Justin finch is out there this morning back many the cold and the wind. Reporter hey, good morning. The feels like we understand is about 4 degrees at this time out here in Frederick County which are conditions that will create very trickty ones out there on the road. We have some ice that we wanted to show you. You may think you can get past this, but when you put your foot on it its actually very slippery. It take as lot to break the shovel as it might appear there but the ice is i can assure you of that. I want to tell you too, the main stretch out here, you will find some icy patches, but it is mostly clear out here off what we have seen and heard from drivers this morning. The snow out here that you may see on the roads too, it is not soft. Its very hard and icy. You do want to maneuver around that as well. Were talking to people this morning who tell us they are building more time into their schedules. Many had to work yesterday and found tough conditions out there on the roads. We do see now that Frederick County waking up this morning hitting gas stations, hitting stores and a slow start today to that as well given that schools out here in Frederick County are opening with a twohour delay. That is delays here in frederick. Im justin finch, back in to you. Be sure to keep it right here on news 4 today for continuing coverage of this winter weather. The concern for todays commute in some places is the ice and with our frigid cold temperatures it wont be melting any time soon or at all today. Is that right . Well, there could be a little bit of melting even on a relatively cloudy day with temperatures below freezing. Theres enough solar radiation getting through where we should be able to melt some of the ice off the side streets but it will probably remain frozen all day. Four things to know about the weather. Baby, its cold lots of icy spots. If it looks wet its probably ice. The cold is here to stay for quite a while longer. Next chance for anything to fall from the sky will be saturday and it will be rain drops by then. Got that whole extended forecast coming up in a few more minutes. All right. Thank you. Right now northbound 395, the ramp to washington boulevard, this is what we just talked about a couple of minutes ago. Those bridges, those overpasses, those sidewalks, those driveways, icy here this morning so reports there of ice on the ramp right now. Bradley boulevard between river road and seven locks we have reopened and just talked to adam and he says that is out of the way. Nice and clear falls road. J its hard to imagine this time of the year without the beautiful Cherry Blossoms along the tidal basin, but were facing the possibility were not going to see a whole lot of blooms this year. Frigid temperatures were getting this week may be the reason why. Were live along the tidal basin to explain why the blossoms are in danger. Darcy . Reporter well, good morning. If you just step outside you understand why these blossoms are in danger. With the cold and the wind its hard to feel your face so you can only imagine what its like for the blossoms out here. We have that snow and ice yesterday. Bone chilling cold today. Take a look at one of the trees here. You can see a little bit of pink here also turning brown. So hopefully the ones that havent bloomed yet will be able to survive, but a lot of the blossoms potentially could die. Theres a critical degree mark. The 27 degree mark is bad. 24 degrees even worse. Petals could die. Now, to put it in perspective, the Cherry Blossom festival was supposed to start today. That has been pushed back to this weekend. They werent even able to set up for the festival because of yesterdays weather. The peak bloom expected to start on sunday. So its just a matter of time to figure out what kind of damage was done here to the Cherry Blossom. The trees are fine, but the blossoms, thats a big question and thats something everyone here in the d. C. Area is interested in and all the tourists who come here to washington to see these beautiful trees bloom every year. Back to you. Thank you. We just learned that clark county and Warren County schools in virginia are on a twohour delay today. The snow stick challenge is underway right now. Just use challenge. The person with the best pose gets an official snow stick its a hot commodity. The winner will be announced tonight at 6 00. There wasnt a whole lot of snow to measure in the city yesterday, but trying to measure these temperatures, its depressing. It is. It brings back that seasonal depression that i thought i got rid of. I thought so too. I was ready for spring. I had gone past winter. It was crazy last week. I had my flip flops set up and i had my winter coat next to it. Its crazy whats happening with our weather and this morning, talk about your morning commute, we have areas of ice out there this morning so a higher impact for your morning commute today because of those spots of ice. Recess is probably going to be indoors because its so frigid out for those areas. Keep in mind its icy out there in some afternoon and the evening commute again, expect some areas of ice especially on the shoulder. So if it looks wet its going to be ice as we go through the day today. Feels like temperature when you factor in the wind, 2 degrees in gaithersburg. In the district, 9 degrees. Dulles, 4 degrees. L lorton coming in feeling like 10 degrees and look at the temperature trend. Were only going to be reaching an actual high of 30 degrees, but the wind will not be making it feel as warm as 30 degrees. Its going to stay in the 20s. Overnight we go back down into the 20s again. Temperature trend. Normal high is 56 degrees. Look at today and tomorrow. Still in the 30s. Below normal again friday but getting up there and finally by saturday we do have milder air moving in. Near 60 degrees. That does come with rain though. The wind advisory through the entire area today. Expect a blustery day today. Could see some passing snow showers or just flurries. Not going to be a big deal but i of those in. Then we go into the weekend. I mentioned those milder temperatures. Theres that chance of showers and not frigid as we go through the next ten days. Lets check the roads on this cold wednesday. Good morning. So overall were looking good. A few things that are weather related. Right now though, some construction here this morning. Rock creek parkway north of virginia avenue there in northwest, the left lane getting by that bridge work this morning. Northbound 395, the ramp to washington boulevard, reports of ice on the ramp. Youll see this patchiness throughout the morning and no doubt your sidewalk could be slick as well. Cedarville road east of 301 still blocked each way because of those downed wires and this is finally better. Downed wires here as well has been cleared. Bradley boulevard between river road and seven locks. That is good because that is such a cut through for so many people in monday gomry county. Thank you. Now to our Team Coverage of our forecast. Were starting your wednesday with what you need to know after the storm. We have crews spread out across the region this morning but first we want to check in with chuck bell and Sheena Parveen for a look at the numbers. And the numbers are low this morning and we have ice around the area. A lot of places outside had a lot of melting yesterday during the afternoon and it is all refrozen this morning so be careful for icy spots around sidewalks, side streets, anywhere that didnt get the two this morning. Outdoor planning, plan on being nearly frozen stiff early this morning staying windy and cold all day long and colder than average weather really is going to take us all the way through the rest of the week and on into the first part of the weekend. What to wear today, your heaviest coat, your scarf, your thick gloves, hand warmers, anything you can do to help fend off the chill. Theres your hour by hour planner. 21 degrees at 8 00 in the morning. 25 at 11 00. 28 degrees at 2 00 and highs in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. Maybe a passing flurry or two, but the real impact today will be from the winds. High profile vehicles, head on tight. And kids rocks in your pockets. Absolutely. Roosevelt bridge, left lane covered with ice. Just had that report so bridges, ramps, overpasses, those things are going to be s spots. Northbound 395 the ramp to washington boulevard, same thing. Patchy ice. Inner and outer loop of the beltway, everything moving along nicely here. Cedarville road east of 301, remember we still have that area blocked each way because of downed wires that came down there overnight. Well take a look at travel times coming up. All right. Thank you. We continue tour Team Coverage this morning with our transportation reporter adam tuss. Hes been checking out the roads this morning in the storm team 4 x 4. What kind of spots are you seeing this morning . Anything slippery out there . Reporter yeah, absolutely, eun. Youve got to be careful on the side streets really. The main roads, a great job, but the side streets like this one here right off of shady grove road, youll find a little bit of icy patches as you come up on them and youve got to be a little bit careful here as you go through Something Like this coming down to the intersection. You see the sheen right here. U little hill right there and we are sliding just a little bit toward the intersection here, so youve got to be very careful on certain roads. The road crews did a really good job on most of the roads, but every so often youre going to find a slippery patch like this one here and you get out on to shady grove road, and its in really good shape. So youve got variable conditions really all over the area. We saw some spots like this in Northern Virginia as well and obviously other spots that got a lot of rain. If that didnt all dry then well be dealing with this as well, but a lot of sidewalks as well. Thats a big concern because many of those havent been cleared. So if youve got an issue, let me know. Ill come check out your neighborhood to make sure that we can get you up and going and up and around. Maybe well help you shovel out this morning but a good thing that a lot of people are on two hour delays today. Back to you guys. Thanks so much. Now we want to see how things are looking in frederick, maryland. That is where jui live this morning. Reporter we cannot understate the cold this morning. Its very cold here in frederick. Lots of whipping winds too. Check out this american flag. It has been whipping nonstop all morning. You can see the Traffic Signals out here also swinging back and forth in this wind. We have seen wind speeds showing 17 Miles Per Hour at times. It feels like about 4 degrees out here. Its actually very, very cold. You will want to layer up. Of course we are digging out from yesterdays sleet and snow that fell in this area. Drivers out here telling us the roads are looking better but theyre still finding icy patches. One driver also telling us that he endured an 85 mile commute between here and pennsylvania yesterday and he told us more about that long commute. Took me three hours to get to work. Three hours from where . Camp hill to reporter again, 85 miles that he had to endure in that weather yesterday. His take on the roads today is they are looking a lot better. The plows he says did a good job and earned their money out there. However, you will still find some icy or slick patches out there, we are told so you do want to take it easy and build time into your ride this morning. Back in to you guys. All right. Thank you. Try to stay warm out there and you can keep it right here on news 4 for continuing coverage of this wintry weather. It is not going to feel as warm as freezing through the afternoon. We still have patches of ice outside. Thats not going to change today either. Coming up in just a bit, chuck and i are back. How youll be able to catch the comedy show without staying up late. It is just plain old ice cold outside this morning. Take a look at these temperatures. This is actually the windchill, not the temperature. The windchill. What it feels like when you step outside this morning. Lucky 11 degrees for folks. Thats the highest thing i think i saw on there. Those numbers are especially dangerous for the Cherry Blossoms along the tidal basin. Why we may not be able to see those world famous blossoms. Darcy, im worried about this. Reporter you know, im worried about it too because it is a tradition for many of us. I bring my kids down every year. Im sure you do as well. It would really be a shame to miss this. We missed it one year because of the wind and rain blew all the blooms off. Service says there may not be a peak bloom at all. Let me show you what they look like this morning. If you take a look at the pink blossoms here surrounded by the brown, i dont think that is a good sign for the blossoms that have already bloomed. And according to the National Park service, 24 degrees, that is the magic number. If you hit that or below, youre looking at potentially a 90 kill of the blooms. Now, the problem is, because of the whacky weather, we had the warm 70 degrees last week and now its freezing cold. Weve got ice, weve got wind and so there were some flowers that bloomed here on the tree and thats whats in danger of dying. And again, the National Park service says this may be the first time this happens ever that we dont raech peak bloom. With the roller coaster ride that weve had with the weather this year, you know, we had such a mild winter. Then we had the record spell for february, brought the blossoms of the cusp of coming out and old man winter comes roaring back. Reporter make no mistake about it, National Park service is watching the weather very closely. Checking the temperatures and the blooms and we wont know until a few days. Peak bloom is expected to start sunday. Well have to wait and see what happens. As i mentioned theres a lot of interest. The Spokes Person for the National Park service said he did an interview yesterday with a newspaper in yugoslavia so everybody is watching and waiting to see what happens at the tidal basin. People are really concerned about this. Thank you. Were also out on the roads with Team Coverage for you. Trmgs reporter adam tuss is roaming in our storm team 4 x 4. Well see where you can find some slick spots coming up. And School Delays and clos of your screen right now. The freezing temperatures are a big problem with nearly a foot of snow on the ground around boston. Monica from our bostons sister station joins us live with more. Good morning. Reporter hey, good morning, guys. Lawrence is about an hour north of boston and here in lawrence it was officially a blizzard yesterday afternoon. The conditions were really intense. You know, of course a blizzard means the winds were whipping more than 35 Miles Per Hour for more than three hours and it was tough around here. Right now tons of Power Outages because of this. You see behind me, it is a large tree just snapped in half from those strong winds yesterday. Weve got a lot of trees down here in lawrence. Unfortunately those trees took with them power lines so we have thousands of people still without power this morning. Its very busy with plow trucks trying to salt and treat these roads making the conditions very slippery, but also power crews have been out and about trying to restore power to so many people who are freezing right now. Thats the latest here in lawrence. Back to you. All right. Thank you. You may run into some trouble if youre flying up north today. Erika gonzalez has the latest now with all the cancellations on the live desk. Whats going on here . Dca 30 flights cancelled so all in all its not really a bad scene this morning but of course you want to check with your airline before you head out the door. Back over to you. It its believed to be the first look at president trumps federal tax return. Msnbc obtained part of the 2005 return after it was mailed to the founder of dc report. Org. Tracie potts is following this for us. Reporter they got that statement out really quickly. Let me tell you what the white house said. Im quoting here. Despite the substantial income figure in income tax paid it is totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns. Tell you about that in a second. The Dishonest Media can continue to make this part of his agenda while the president focuses on his. This tax return was not stolen. Msnbc got it from dc report. Org and he says it was anonymously mailed to him. Does this return are we learning anything about the administration or reporter well, not a lot. The two pages of the 1040, not all the attachments and the schedules and that type of thing so we cant dig in to where he got his income from. Its 12 years old and it does tell us that the president paid alternative minimum tax, something that he has said he wants to get rid of because its hitting the middle class and he had a 25 effective tax rate which is quite a bit lower than the top tax rate for someone in his income bracket. All right. Thank you. 22 degrees outside our studios here. I could not turn the heat up enough. Yeah. To make it in. It was so cold. Seat heaters required for the other side too. Its been very unusual for how long weve been colder than average now. Coming up on a full week. By the time we get to friday because today will be below average. Tomorrow will be below average. Friday below average. By friday, that will be seven dayn average. The longest stretch this winter so far is back right around the early parts of january when we had six in a row colder than average, but seven in a row . That will be the longest stretch of the winter. That will be the longest stretch of below average temperatures since last may when we did ten days in a row colder an thavrth average. Right now, man, 22 degrees. Northwest wind at 15 means the feels like factor down to 9 in washington. And the winds will continue to be gusty. These are wind gusts now all in the 20 to 30mileperhour range. Thats where those wind gusts are going to stay. Once the sun comes up i think the wind will increase a bit. Feels like temperatures are down near 2. In gaithersburg, 9 in manassas, so headed out to the bus stops earlier this morning, a twohour delay for most of the districts and all the information on nbc washington app. Dont expect to warm up today. Afternoon highs will stay at or below the freezing mark. The alltime record low maximum temperature for today is 32. Thats the coldest record. You can see chillier than average weather all the way through next week. Saturday comes with a chance of rain. All right. Taking a look right now at traffic. Chopper 4 headed to randolph road.
