So the Districts Police Cadet Training program is going to be possibly opening up to more young people. Mayor bowser wants to exchange the eligibility to 25. Right now, its 17 to 21. Changing that would increase the pool of recruits. The mayor says this is about investing in the future of the Police Department. This would also mean jobs and education. Cadets work about 20 hours a week in civilian jobs and they earn College Credit and its a pathway to careers in public safety. And long with a second bill where she says it will be keeping more qualified people now this proposal comes as leaders say there is a renewed focus on strengthening the ties between officers and the communities they serve.
