Well, everyone is officially back to school in our area starting today students in fairfax, spotsylvania counties are getting ready to go to school today. Falls church is also back in session. In Fairfax County high School Starts an hour later at 8 10 a. M. That means buses will roll out during the middle of the morning commute. More breaking news, news4s Kristin Wright on the scene of a fire at a building at George Washington university. Kristin, any evacuations there . Reporter thats right. There was a fire this morning at fulbright hall. Its a dormitory im told for sophomore students. You can see students here at the front door just now going back into the building after being evacuated at about 3 30 this morning. About 250 sophomores live in this building. The fire started were told just a couple of hours ago. Up on the roof. It started up on the roof area. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the roof of the building. We are told this building was just redone a couple of years ago in 2013. They are threeperson dormitories. Fire again contained to the roof. Everybody okay which is a big thing. Firefighters told me this morning that everybody is okay. They were able to get everybody out quickly. We talked to a few of the students here who said they heard the fire alarm go off all of a sudden in the middle of the night and they all had to come down the stairs and make sure that everybody got out okay which everybody did. The Biggest School district in our area starts up again in just a few hours. The first schools in Fairfax County opened this morning at 7 30. And its a little earlier for some students but others are getting the chance to sleep in this year. Were outside one of the schools, folks who come here will get to sleep in a little bit. But Fairfax County when you think about it in perspective, this is huge. Tenth largest in the nation when it comes to school jurisdictions. So among the big headlines for students you pointed to it, getting more sleep. At the High School Level and secondary level, its going to be anywhere between 40 and 50 more minutes of sleep. Middle schoolers however are going to have to start about 15 minutes earlier for the elementary schoolers, really no change from the past few years. Its an eightstory dorm. The fire were told started in the roof area. Firefighters were able to contain it to that area. But students are telling us they have been told theres some kind of a water damage as a result of the fire. They had to get out and theyre lined up in a line waiting to get back in. So this is one of the sophomores caroline telling us what happened. She was asleep when the fire alarms went off. The lights were flashing.
