Congress will be on track to pass a transportation bill this week but the deadline is looming on the 2016 budget bill. The bill needs to be in place by the end of next week to avoid a Government Shutdown. Nbcs tracie potts joins us with the latest. Good morning. Reporter eun, good morning. December 11th is the deadline. Congress has known it for a few months. Here we are at the very end trying to figure out if theyre going to be able to work out this 1. 1 trillion budget. There are only three options. They can extend the current funding again, another temporary extension. They can come to an agreement on the budget or they can do nothing and were looking at a potential Government Shutdown which is what both sides want to avoid. There are some roadblocks in the way. Planned parenthood. This has been an issue for several months, particularly with conservatives in congress who want to defund planned parenthood, take those federal dollars out of planned parenthood because of the abortion issue. Even some who oppose planned parenthood dont think that will end up being the hangup for the budget but it can certainly be an issue. Obamacare, another vote to roll back obamacare. Thats likely to happen in the senate tomorrow although they could put things off for a day, it probably wont hold up the budget. Even the syrian refugee issue and whether or not to allow them into the united states. That could be added on to this budget. Not a lot of time that congress has to deal with this. As i said, less than two weeks and theres big incentive for both sides because no one wants to have a Government Shutdown at the holidays. Tracie potts live on capitol hill. Thank you, tracie.
