They rushed this man to a police wagon where his eyes were washed out and he was later arrested. The governor hoping a new week will bring peace to baltimore. Well, you know, there is a sense that this city is already started to heal. People want the curfew lifted. They are asking the governor for that. That doesnt mean everyone has paid their tax debt to the irs. Consumer reporter Erika Gonzalez has a warning about hiring companies that ties tax debt relief services. Called and said they could help me. Charles county maryland has serious tax debt to the point irs eventually threatened to take his house. He owes more than 9000 to the state and more than 27,000 to the federal government. A total of more than 36,000 in back taxes. When i start to get more depressed about taxes i owed, i looked at the telephone book. He saw and asked for help. The company, wall and Associates Incorporated tieses it solves tax problems. Thats when he picked up the phone. They said they could help me with taxes, send somebody to talk to me. When a company tax consulted visited him. 3,000 up front plus additional 400 each month to associates. He did so more than a year. 8000 later, he said he questioned what the company accomplished for him. I contacted them many times and they said they were working on the case and i need to send them more money to keep working on the case. We contacted wall and associates. The company said it performed a lot of work on the case which include preparing an offer to the irs and maintain regular contact with eckert. The company says it does not make any guarantees on the outcome of a persons case, which is stated in eckerts contract. Did any of the 8,000 go towards your tax burden. No, maam. Wall and associates confirmed eckert still owed his full debt after payment to the company. But the company says the irs will close a review of an offer and compromise if it doesnt receive information it requests. Wall and associates says this is what happened in eckerts case. The company said he didnt provide the information the company needed in a timely manner. He says he sent same documents multiple times after the company continued to ask for the same information. Eckert said throughout his case he spoke with at least nine different people. Wall went on to say average settlement of a client is 10 whats owed irs. When it comes to tax settlements, federal trade Commission Warns if the Company Requires a fee in advance, walk away. As for eckert, hes now an payment plan to irs. The 8,000 i paid the company i could have paid the irs in government debt. Basically right now 8,000 lost. Cant afford to pay your taxes . First thing you do is contact irs for free help. Its got different programs and payment plans. If you decide to hire help, make sure the company has enrolled agents and then check with the irs to make sure the agent is in good standing.
