But were seeing residual consolations and delays because of the problems they saw yesterday. You look at the board. A number of delays listed here. A couple of cancellations. The problem was with a water pipe in the control tower because of the cold temperatures. It burst for a time. That control tower had to be evacuated. Cancellations and the like. Well seeing that trickledown effect. When you cancel flights like that its tough to reschedule them and get that schedule back on track. Thats what theyre trying to do here this morning. People who are leaving from dulles keep in mind that you may have either a cancellation or a delay. But many of the other flights are okay. Youre going to have to check. We spoke to a woman who is headed out of town. Headed to chicago. She arrived here to find out shes not leaving on time. Its very inconvenient because im going to a funeral. My aunt passed. I have to get to chicago, rent a car and drive to detroit. Reporter if youre flying out of dulles check with your airline that everything is as it should be, that youre leaving on time. A new set of proposed rules from the faa could bring commercial drones one step closer to daily life in the u. S. All of the companies hoping to use drones are taking a look at the rules. The rules give us Important Information on how the faa manages commercial drones should be used. Drones will be used for aerial photography, monitoring crops and inspecting buildings and bridges. They are barred from within five miles of airports. And could be three years before the rules become final. As many of you know it is illegal to fly drones in d. C. For fun. This started in Calvert County last night. The suspected thief jumped into a 2012 Dodge Charger that had been left to warm up in prince frederick. A sheriffs deputy tried to pull over the driver. He took off, leading police on a chase to upper marlborough. The police say the suspect took off into the woods. New warning for you in ashburn after a string of breakins. Burglars have broken into homes. They usually strike in the early evening hours when your neighbors are not home from work yet. The sheriff says the homeowners are all of asian descent and they have been targeted because of ethnicity. The duchess of cambridge released a new message. The Stigma Around Mental Health means that many children dont get the help they believe. The Charity Works to remove the Stigma Around Mental Health as an early age. Your teen is getting less sleep compared to teens 20 years ago. Researchers tracked nearly 300,000 teens from 1991 to 2012. Those surveyed in 2012 say they didnt get nine hours of sleep. Doctors recommend teens get nine to ten hours of sleep a night. The increasing use of smartphones before bed and obesity could be to blame for the rising rate of sleep deprivation. The lighter amounts, the four inches maybe in southern Frederick County and into the panhandle of West Virginia near the pennsylvania border. Richard jordan along the National Mall now. Richard, why is there even a dispute as to how tall the monument is . Were talking about a teninch difference in the official measurement of the Washington Monument that was taken a couple of months ago when the monument was under repair for earthquake damage. All of that scaffolding was up. They say it was 555 feet tall. Now, 554 feet tall. To be exact, its ten inches shorter. But heres how we get to the number. The monument did not shrink here. The measuring of it has changed. The measurement was taken from the base of the pedestrian entrance to the top of the monument. Before that, it was taken from the base of the monument, about nine inches into the ground. The last inch is from the very top of the monument. The peak is no longer pointed. Its curved because the monument has been struck by lightning so many times. Its a tenedge difference in the official measurement of the Washington Monument. The tallest structure in d. C. Weve seen a number of roof and building collapses as a result including an Apartment Building in new hampshire. Some 200 people affected by that. That means well have frequent storm team 4 updates as we get through the rest of the day today. The storm team 4 radar showing snow is advancing coming in from the southwest to the east. That advancing snow is snowing pretty hard right now in parts of West Virginia now. Just coming into kentucky. And northern tennessee. That area of heavy snow is going to continue to advance off to the east. And the latest timing on this is showing that it is going to be moving through here coming in from the south and west. And advancing to the east. As it does advance to the east we will see it picking up in intensity, as it moves into the shenandoah valley. Thats going to be moving east and passing into the metro area around 5 00 or 6 00 p. M. The heaviest snows will be passing to our south. And the heavy snow will be moving to the east and pulling out of Southern Maryland and crossing the bay and the Eastern Shore by dawn on tuesday. And will have the heaviest amounts of snow occurring during the time period of 8 00 p. M. To 3 00 a. M. Tuesday, with the moderate snow. We have an area of winter storm warning that controversy all of virginia the metro area and much of maryland and much of West Virginia. As this continues to pull on through later tonight into early tomorrow morning. And then by dawn well be down to near 20 degrees during the day on tuesday. Up to near 30 degrees during the afternoon. And as we get into wednesday, we have another chance of another round of some snow coming through. Maybe just some light snow. Will be in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees by then. Then thursday night friday. Very cold again, another surge of arctic air moves in. Highs near 20 degrees on thursday and friday. Well have some sunshine. And a chance of light snow moves in on saturday with highs around 30 degrees. Finally getting above freezing on sunday. Now, melissa, whats happening on the roads . It is brutally cold out there. Roads and rails be careful. Rails we have an issue. This is a warning because of the cold weather, might want to bundle up if you run orange or single lines. The delays continue. That means thousands of plows and trucks are ready to spray a billion pounds of salt on the state roads.
