Right now we are getting sprinkles near annapolis with patches of green on the radar. A few light sprinkles of rain in southeastern prince georges southeastern Charles County and northern st. Mary, thats tracking off to the east. A few sprinkles farther west of there. Southern Stafford County into northern spotslvania county. Those showers are passing well south of the metro area here tracking across southern and South Central virginia. Well stay dry for the morning commute and the roads will dry out throughout the morning. Temperatures are on the cool side. Not cold like yesterday morning. We are in the low to mid50s in the nearby suburbs. Mid50s in prince georges, low 50s in much of montgomery. And the skies are beginning to clear out down into the mid to upper 40s. Then into west virginia, shenandoah valley, we have breaks in the clouds. So for this morning, a cool morning in the 50s between now and 8 00. By noontime, into the upper 60s. A mild day midday and then the clouds quickly close in for the afternoon. A pretty good chance for passing showers for the afternoon commute down into the mid60s after it peaks near 70 degrees by early to midafternoon. And melissa is here now to look at work zones and road closures. Whats going on with that. 95 southbound the offramp to 198, we have the ramp access blocked this morning because of construction. Also, just below that, southbound after powder mill road the right lane is blocked. A lot of construction in maryland. A wider look at things, no major problems in or out of up to. We are looking quite good right now as we should be. 95 into and out of town on virginia, no problems there. And 66 at compton road is moving right along. We have breaking news, Oscar Pistorius is in a South African courtroom waiting to hear his sentence for shooting and killing his girlfriend. Prior to that, she said she wants to find balance in her judgment. Something thats not too harsh and something not too light. Hearing now that as we take a live look, hes about to learn what is going to be his fate. Pistorius was cleared of murder and well bring you the latest as soon as we learn his sentence. The judge literally just handed down the sentence a minute ago. Its a third of what he could have got behind bars. Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide but cleared of murder recently. Hearing from reporters in the courtroom, you can take a look at what is going on in there. They are saying that there is absolute silence in court. No sign of reaction from pistorius family. Something they must have expected. His sister, amy, looks very distressed. Little reaction from the family. As of right now, no word of how the victims family, Reeva Steenkamps family is reacting, but he could have gotten as little as a fine. Metro is shutting down an entire line to help control huge crowds expected for a concert. Organizers say up to 800,000 people could attend the concert for valor on the national mall. So what were going to do on veterans day is replace the blue line with yellow line service. Trains will depart as yellow line trains and run over the bridge to greenbelt. The the metro says that will free up more capacity and more trains to move anybody. Anybody wanting to go to Arlington Cemetery will have to take a special shuttle. Matthew faces new charges from an attack that happened nine years ago. A Fairfax County grand jury indicted him on three charges including rape and attempted murder. A 26yearold woman was walking home from the Grocery Store with bags near the oxford road townhome in fairfax back in 2005. Police say she was dragged into the wooded area near a pool and assaulted. The woman ran to Diane Jenkins home for help. I remember that she had sticks and grass in her hair and some scratches. And she was confused. And she was not speaking english. Police matched the Sexual Assault through dna to the 2009 murder of Virginia Tech student morgan harrington. Matthew has not been charged in that crime. The federal government is paying hundreds of millions of dollars to workers who are off the job for disciplinary reasons. A new report in the Washington Post says over the last three years more than 57,000 federal employees were kept at home for a month or longer. Some were kept home for as long as a year while their cases were pending. The Government Accountable Office says the tab for these workers exceeded 775 million in salary alone. The comptroller general says workers should not be sidelines unless they are considered a threat to the workplace. So the overnight showers, some of the roads are wet and will be drying out throughout the morning. Well have a partly cloudy morning by 9 00. It will be a partly sunny day with clouds coming and going between then and noontime. Then its by early afternoon some showers are moving into the shenandoah valley. Then by 5 45, 6 00, some showers in Northern Virginia coming right into the metro area. Might have a little rumble of thunder, too, so dont be surprised if you hear that. No severe storms. Then well have more showers moving through. These areas in green through the evening hours, thats going to continue through this evening. And by this time tomorrow morning, likely the pavement will be wet all around the region. Right now its down into the upper 40s to near 50 in the northern and western suburbs with the skies clearing out. South and east of the metro area, still clouds around and milder in the 50s to near 60 degrees. Theres the capitol under a clearing sky with sunshine this morning. Well rapidly warm and still be in the 50s by 8 00. By noon, the upper 60s. By 1 00 or 2 00, 70 degrees. Then by late afternoon, back down to the 60s with showers rolling on through. Those showers off and on throughout the evening are back down to the 50s by late evening. This time tomorrow morning, near 50 with showers around. The Sheriffs Office says scammers are calling you to claim they are a family member. Then say say they have been arrests and need help. If you think you have been scammed, call police. Reporting for the news4 iteam, a local School District is under a big legal bill. This summer the iteam reported Montgomery County School Board Members used their Government Credit cards on expensive dinners and hotel rooms. Now they discovered the county is paying 146,000 for lawyers to review all the spending. When they are finished, the lawyers will recommend policy changes to the board. The school board also voted to cut up its credit cards so they wont be used anymore. You can help the smithsonian reach its goal of raising 1. 5 billion.
