More kids coming to Montgomery County, more kids being born and were thrilled to have them in in our system. What did you have to do to prepare . We just built or 202nd school, well be there later today. Were expanding schools. We have of course portables. We are bursting at the seam. But were also ready and we have safe classrooms for everyone. So technology in the classroom. Youre pushing this thing. 40,000 is the goal for tablets, laptops, chrome books. So were talking about 40,000 chrome books. We started with about 12,000 right now. But we are just so thrill that had we can provide our kids with the technology they need to thrive in the 21st century. Well stay on top of all of it. Doctors say not getting enough sleep can impact them mentally, emotionally and physically. Doctors tell us children are biologically programmed to sleep between certain hours. But with schools starting so early, children are missing that window and that can affect their grades and mental health. Kids at my school, i mean, you notice first thing in the morning, nobody wants to talk to each other. Everybody is half awake. They just want to with an dear through the you hallway like zombies. Reporter did doctors say thats not surprise. Studies show between 70 and 85 are chronically getting too little sleep. That means less than seven hours each might when they really need at least nine hours. When we dont sleep well, or when our sleep is deprived, recent science shows that parts of the brain actually go to sleep during the day to catch up during the day. Reporter dr. Daniel is a sleep specialist. He says that reaction in the brain can cause lapses in attention, poor judgment, aggression, and depression. And that can affect a childs learning and social behavior. One of the issues with sleep time is simply that kids lives are so full. There is so much to do. Particularly the adolescents. School pressure, social pressure, sports. We also know they will be able to access different kinds of information and just we know the technology engages our kids in different ways and were thrilled that were able to provide this to our kids. Early this morning, police say a man walked this with a gun. He demanded money. The money was turned over. No one injured. All of it confined to the lobby of the hotel. People in california still assessing the damage from a 6. 0 magnitude earthquake that struck in the heart of the wine country. Angie goff has more on the cleanup effort from the live desk. We still have aftershocks still going on. Crews assessing the damage as you mentioned from fires and buildings rattled by the quake. A look at the destruction there. This napa, 90 to 100 homes are uninhabitable. No deaths, but more than 200 were hurt. A state of emergency is still in effect for the area. And we are hearing that aftershocks are expected to continue for weeks. Eun. Angie, thank you. Forget about weather or traffic scrams. Apparently the real headache is the quickly growing list of hotel surcharges even for items youll never use. A study out of new york says hotels will take in a record 2. 25 billion this year in revenue. And some of that money is from new surcharges and hotels increasing the amount of existing fees like guaranteeing two queen beds, checking in early are or checking out late. You probably are still paying for an inroom safe whether you use it or not. And if you want to avoid some of these fee, check the fine Police Department before you you check in. I had no idea they could charge you you for the safe even if you didnt use it. Business travelers are a larger portion of the hotel population. So if the company is paying for it, sometimes they figure you can charge you for whatever. But the rest of us tom gives a free forecast every morning. Thats right. No charge.
