Officers received three different reports from the courthouse meridian Apartment Building of a man getting into a womans bedroom. One woman said he just stood there and watched her and when she woke up she screamed and he left. Another account from another woman said she woke up to him stroking her arm. All three women gave the same description of the man. Each of the victims reported the suspect to be a white or asian male, early 20s. And each of the cases they said that he was wearing a polo shirt. Arlington police warn everyone to take extra precautions by making sure that their doors are locked and no one is following them. If you know anything about this man, call police. A mixed bag of news from Fairfax County when it comes to crime. According to the most recent numbers, crime is down overall but serious offenses are on the rise. There were four more homicides this year compared to 2012 and kidnappings and abduction cases went up as did sex offenses. Police in Prince Georges County made your help to identify thieves. They released Surveillance Video showing the thieves breaking into the roof of the rivertown jewelers. They cut the security cables heres the video then used a blow torch to break into a safe and stole half a Million Dollars in merchandise. It happened in may and previous leads did not result in any arrests. A new twist in the investigation of the navy yard shooting. The news 4 iteam learned the navy was seeking security upgrades at the navy yard. It cancelled the plans due to the shooting that killed 12 workers. Scott mcfarland obtained a copy of a Navy Contract dated september 13. It included a panic alarm system for building 197 which was the site of the shootings. Other upgrades are planned in part because of the newly ordered renovations to building 197. They call the measures part of routine changes. When word first spread about last weeks shooting at the navy yard doctors, nurses, and surgeons prepared for the worse. They took three patients and they were ready to take on more but no one else came. She sat down with them in this news 4 exclusive. We have an active shooter on the fourth floor. Ill get you update on the Building Location with several victims down. We assembled all of the trauma teams and we were ready and waiting for the word that people would start arriving. As soon as they got word of the mass shooting at the navy yard the trauma team knew exactly what to do. This is what were here for. Reporter thats because theyre the districts only level one trauma center, equipped to handle the regions worst disasters like the 2009 metro Train Derailment that left 9 people dead and injured 80 more and of course 9 11 when the pentagon was attacked. Ten victims from the pentagon were treated by this team. You go through a lot of it on paper but when it happens its different. Reporter the trauma surgeons told us they were ready to treat at least ten patients but they needed to be transported quickly. In trauma, theres a thing called the golden hour where the first hour after injury is a critical time to diagnose and begin treatment and resuscitation of injuries. So as time passes the golden hour is ticking away. Medstar can make four major. The first Patient Police officer Scott Williams arrived at 9 30 a. M. Followed by two civilian women. One at 9 56. The other at 10 58 that morning, but after that, there was no one else. Once they cross their doorway, were ready. The problem is that unfortunately many of them didnt make it to cross our doorway. Reporter 12 lives were lost. A difficult fact for a team that was ready to save more lives. Its rewarding when patients get here and we save them but part of it too is that theres a lot of patients that get lost. Reflecting on the fatalities that didnt make it to us, thats hard because we were ready for them. All day today people in Prince Georges County can hear from county leaders as well as Homeland Security and red cross officials about how to get ready for emergencies. Montgomery county fire officials are crediting smoke detectors with saving the lives of several people in the house. The fire started on the second floor of the home and quickly spread to the attic. Smoke alarms helped alert the family and they got out safely. One firefighter was slightly injured putting out the blaze and that fire caused more than 750,000 damage to the house and its contents but the documents were unharmed. It points out the importance of having working smoke detectors and a plan for your family to get out and be accounted for if theres a fire. When officers got to the scene the man was unconscious and bleeding heavily from being shot several times. Rescuers tried to save him but he died at the hospital.
