So good that she managed to steal more than 77,000 from a highly educated and successful 53yearold victim. But when the victim caught on, she called police and private investigator bob niguard to track the woman down. I was able to pinpoint her location to a location in queens. He followed her to this 99 cent store where she was met by nypd officers. He had his camera rolling when police made the arrest. But both niguard and the detective say these types of scams are targeting people from all walks of life. This is a very educated woman who fell for this scam. I have a trade and im lucky to be able to give back to people. Laura spends time working here at the Assessment Center in rockville. Its a shelter with 65 beds run by inner faith works and filled with dozens of grateful ladies. She was talking to me, asking me what is your story. I want to know your story. Laura comes to the center once a week. Shes given hundreds of hair cuts on the street, too. My purpose is to give back to people. Laura says she knows some of their pain. There is no catch. I want to be able to uplift that person. She can recognize it in their eyes. I know what its like to live out of a paper bag. I lived out of a paper bag with my name on it for a few years. U i was transferred to different homes when i was young in my life, a teenager. And i know what its like to be at the bottom of the barrel and to hate yourself and to hate the world and to not have hope. Laura doesnt want money. She wants a smile. I feel like a million bucks when shes finished. I want to go show off my hair. Its important to me to be able to watch somebody that hasnt been spoken to in a week maybe when i come up and i just say, hey, i want to do something nice for you today, and they just look at you like, why are you talking to me. But the centers director knows what laura does is far beyond a free haircut. This really helps our ladies who are going through a difficult time, rebuild their selfesteem. Its a really important service. Because when youre here and youre loorking for employment, youre trying to save your money, time for a haircut or paying for a haircut is really a luxury. Laura and her friends also hold clothing and undergarments drives. And she says all of this is also a bit about her. I just say find your passion, find what you love and go for it. Give back. But for collins, a disabled vet, thats not as easy as it sounds. Its really hard to get organic food, especially in the d. C. Area. And i live off of my disability, so i have to just, you know, use food stamp to get nutritious food. There are no major supermarkets in collins northeast neighborhood. And when she can get to one, its too expensive for the single mother. I walk out of safe way and the walmart with one meal and ive spent like 60 bucks. 30 minutes away, farmers like anita tend to their crops. But these vegetables arent headed for a supermarket or a fancy restaurant. These organic vegetables are grown for people who need them the most. This is going in the communities where there arent grocery stores. And were kind of leveling out like, making food accessible to everyone is important to me. Saz she smends her day on the farm in virginia, the former social worker think about the families in the city who eat her food. Thats what gets me going through the hot days and the season is winding down and youre exhausted. The problem was getting this food to the people who need it. Four years ago a local nonprofit set out to bridge that gap by combining the feed concept and the farmers market. The result, the mobile market. Were definitely a bridge in a number of ways. Were serving communities where the marketplace has failed to, you know, provide a needed service. People come to us because they want farm fresh foods. Five days a week in 19 different neighborhoods across the district, the mobile market rolls in with fresh food. And they didnt just bring fresh organic feed, they make it affordable by giving food stamp customers 2 of food for ever 1 in stamps. Even though they have to take the bus to get there, ms. Collins and her son are regular customers. For the first time i can walk away and i only spent 60 dollars and i have four nights that i can feed my family in leftovers.
