We have a slowdown once you get through the toll booth itself because we have 11 lanes going into three lanes. So there is a little bit of drag, but once you get that merge taken back up on the bridge. So great time to leave. Thats what the experts had said. They predicted actually yesterday would be the peak travel day for a lot of people leaving town and that today would not be as bad. And thats what were seeing out here this morning. This is video cell phone video what appears to be a commercial bus driver driving a group of people from d. C. To new york. And it appears as though he is watching tv as he is driving this commercial bus. Im joined now by neil auguoge ogenstein. Thank you for joining us. How did you get your hands on this video . Well, we heard from the passenger sitting in the front passenger he was driving from bethesda up towards new york city for a business trip. And he realized that the driver was watching his smartphone while they were up on 95. So he took out his smartphone and started videotaping it. The driver clearly is shifting his eyes down and to his left, so the passenger sent us the video and several pictures and let us know that this was going on. So he was on the bus at the time while we were hearing about what was happening. This has to have been so scary for that individual. Did they Say Something to the bus driver . Did they confront him . Well, he said he was very scared. He said he wasnt able to read or do any work. He did not confront the bus driver. He said that he was afraid to do that. He thought the driver might get angry. So which bus line was this . Called a tripper bus, which goes from bethesda up to new york city. Its run by gunther charters. This morning the owner of the bus Company Tells me he called his driver, told them he was terminated and the driver said okay. All right. Neil augenstein from our News Partners at wtop. Thank you for joining us with that exclusive story. Thanks once again. The beginning of life. Wherever in the world or however from the room that life begins, it always seems to be a miracle. And shaping that brand new human life in the earliest moments, days, years after birth is the subject of a brand new film presented by unicef. It was conceived and directed by brazilian film director estella renn renner. Thanks for being wit its beautiful. I was going to take a look at it and i couldnt stop watching. Its very, very well done. The things that we learn about babies is amazing. When did you decide you wanted to do this . Incidentally it premiered at the United Nations this week and had a viewing last night here in washington. Everybody wants to know what made you decide to do this. Because we have made so many films to help improve society. And we realize that if we invest in Early Childhood, this is our best chance. So this movie we made as a tool so other people can use this film as awareness to invest in Early Childhood development. Your message seems to be that babies know a whole lot more and can do a whole lot more than we realize. Theyre not just a pink pretty pink blob that comes out and we have to wait a few years before they know anything, is that right . Exactly. And the foundation thats building in the first few years it relies on us, o beings. So the interaction we have with them is going to give them this structure to become who theyre supposed to become, the life that they are. You traveled all over the world to do this. Many, many countries and you show babies being born and being raised in many different ways. There was one message that i think that we should hear. Its what one scientist said about babies not coming out as a blank slate. Lets have a listen. Instead of thinking of them as blank slates, really were now realizing that they are the best scientists and the best learners that we know of in the universe. And that is part of your message, isnt it . Yes, it is. Because babies when they are born people think that they are blank slates skprks they are not. They are full of knowledge, but they depend on us to create a Good Environment for them to become what they are supposed to become. One of the things i learn from that is within days of being born babies can distinguish between languages, infants can know spanish as opposed to english, as opposed to french. How do they know that . I know. And also in the first few years of life is where they learn the most. And it builds the foundation for the whole humanity, for the society theyre going to be. So do we learn about what we ought to be doing that were not doing from this film . Yes. And mainly we say all parents know what kids need. Some parents think they dont have the means, the environment dont help them be the children they want to be. For example in some developing countries parents spend four hours on public transportation, or some countries dont give maternal leave as many months as they should, how can parents build their kids if the country, the dealmakers are not giving them this environment . Brazil, the host of olympics coming up comes a wonderful film that i think is a real instructional pieceor thank you so much. Thank you so much for having us. Erika. Thanks, barbara. It will be good for five years and allow you to keep your shoes, belts and light jackets on when you go through security.
